Thanks!

I would have made a slope but the tunnell would have looked weird imo, and there are no diagonal road onslope pieces.

A fully-grade separated paperclip setup? I hope that these will suffice... but I'm open to suggestions...

R_Triacontahedron: That's the general idea I was talking about: a paperclip type setup, only instead of an at-grade intersection, there is a grade-separated interchange.

The original inspiration for that particular interchange was a real life interchange in Kobe, Japan. I've never seen this 'onion-style' design before, so I wanted to create something similar: a full interchange with two highways very near each other, taking as few space as possible.

R_Triacontahedron, these are interesting approaches. There is some evil weaving in the center though. Try to grade-separate this section if possible. I realize that then you'd probably lose the ability to U-turn back onto the same highway, but personally, I prefer non-weaving over U-turn possibility.

I also tried the idea with a fully grade-separated paperclip type, but I wasn't happy with the outcome. First, I had to put the highways (too) wide apart to have place for the complicated infield, and second, I didn't like the outcome in the end. The whole interchange had a much too big footprint for my liking. Finally I erased everything (which is a rare action once I finish an interchange) and tried a new approach. I'm still thinking about a small and efficient setup for a paperclip type. In the meantime, I finished this experiment below (sorry about the lack of trees).

I don't think I quite understand what you mean about grade-seperation, I thought I had done that... But I'll agree that any paperclip between two parallel highways would be too large for any pratical application, I like your interchange much better.

New trumpet interchange in my new city, may possibly do a CJ.

I'm glad you like my interchanges, thank you. 1.gif

About the grade separation: The problem lies in the center part where the OWR join the Avenue. The example below shows two connector routes. Cars going the red and blue ways will meet in the yellow zone (the at-grade intersection) where they each must change lanes and thus produce heavy weaving. If this part were also grade-separated with an overpass, the weaving would be gone (hope this made sense).

Here's a ParClo. It's got some weaving issues but there isn't a good way around it.

Couple of 3 level diamond interchanges i was making. Can't make them really compact until we get double elevated RHW-4, elevated Mis under double elevated RHW-4 and elevated mis intersections. But still, they do save space i think. Also, i didn't have a slope mod installed at the time, so i used the elevated to non elevated transfer peices. with a slopemod you should be able to make it more compact.

Edit: gah, i just realised how horrible the picture is.

I need some help, so pool your collective interchange genius on this problem:

interchangeprob.jpg

I need an interchange that incorporates the RHW and the diagonal and east/west avenue. The RHW needs to turn south to cross the river. There does not need to be ramps for every direction, but try to include as many that can be fit. Thanks in advance!

I'll lend my expertise in your case, and here's my idea. It entails an underwater tunnel, a sunken highway, with frontage roads above. You can also bring the rail up to ground level and make an overpass over the highway.

I believe this covers all connections at the capacity required. If necessary, there is room for upgrades.

My newest city. No development yet (as I typically lay down all my major roads before building). Compared some of my interchanges, this one is fairly smooth and realistic. The island off to the east will be the CBD, and there will probably be High Density Residential to the west of the river.

a4jan3001239772001.th.png

It was a little cleaner when it was just the two highways splitting, but that intersection seemed kinda necessary IMO. I'll see what I can do to make it more accesible from different directions, but not to the point where it's overly complicated (well, maybe 3.gif).

I've used some of each of your ideas and my own and came up with this:

McDuell: Yes, thank you for your explaination of weaving, it made a lot of sense, and it will help with my interchanges in the future.

I tried fixing the weaving with my interchanges, I was able to fix the one with the Maxis highways, but the RHW one was more difficult and time consuming... too much work for me when I'm tired... I might try again in the future, but I need to try other interchanges for a change of pace.

I told you I'd end up complicating my last interchange I posted (which in that picture had already been complicated more than the original interchange (with it only splitting into to highways on to off to the north and south). I did, here ya go. It works out very nicely though, and I would certainly be having congestion problems if I simply had just converted the RHW-8 into a maxis highway or a single RHW-4. If not now, in the future. Already over 7000 people travel over the two bridges combined, and I don't have very much development yet.

a4jul13061239842772.th.png

BTW I doubt anyone noticed, but I mislabeled this city, it should be D-1 not A-4 3.gif I'll fix it soon. (I always manage to mislabel them lol)

EDIT 4/17: Now over 15,000 cars travel the two bridges combined, good thing I did what I did. Also I have more Sub/GLR/EL-Rail traffic than cars, so if for some reason the sims started disliking the mass transit, you never know 3.gif

Hey everyone. Got a question for you all. Well all know about the texture problems for the new interchanges that were included with NAM. A bit annoyed about it, but is there anything htat could be done to fix this? Just asking. But anyway, I haven't posted anything in a while, and I would like to say that things have changed around here. Starting out with regular SimCity interchanges put together, to complex custom interchanges that use a variety if diffrent roads, highways, and custom addons. I really am suprised of everything you guys have made. The detail is amazing, and its really cool. Just wanted to tell you guys about how much this has changed (in my eyes).

Here's a pretty simple one from D-1 (yeah I fixed the name, you might know it as A-4, not that any of you understand my naming system or remeber the uncreative names lol):

d1sep18101240022783.png

Here's a complicated (duh 3.gif) RHW-2/RHW-4 interchange:

d1jul4111240025944.png

Because of a bug that prevents RHW-6s from going diagonal (I tried in UDI and it always disappeared), it originally looked like this but had to be changed:

d1sep18101240022805.png

Yeah, not a big deal, but slightly annoying bug *cough*

Here's an overview of the area (it's developped now, but not much change in the highway layout):

d1jul4111240025958.png

BTW the built in Imageshack uploader is currently broken, so it took a lot longer to post this 3.gif Hope it gets sorted otu soon (worked like not that long ago)

These are some rather simple interchanges, but they look awesome!

This is a cloverleaf (not a big fan of these but I ran out of other ideas)

Here's a small parclo

and a larger parclo.

These are rather common, but this is a fabulous thing for me as I am not all that great with RHW's

I got moar 9.gif (yes I did it again, should be A-5 lol)

I didn't have enough room for a seperate interchange for the middle overpass, so I improvised 4.gif

e1jan8001240181404.th.png

A simple RHW-4/RHW-2 Cloverleaf:

e1may7051240189895.th.png

A compact but effective interchange, also simple (nothing complex in this city....yet):

Hmm...maybe it would be beneficial to everyone if I jpegged my screenies...just so used to Runescape forums where people get pissed at you for using Jpegs (they look bad for RS screenies). I guess that would make them a lot smaller, but the uploader should still work though. Is there a way to get SC4 to autosave as JPEG instead of PNG, or should I just manually convert them (or make a bash script)?
