Depends on the source of the headache.  Let's see:

 

Hangover cure:  Lots of ice water and something with a lot of protein.  How about a nice hot bowl of chicken noodle soup?

 

Tension release: (What? Me Worry?) How about a bowl of Vichy Soisse followed by a plate of our hot buffalo wings?  Pint of Guinness to cool the palate.

 

Physical causes:  Take two aspirin (or Tylenol) and call me in the morning.  Have a nap in the back room with the KK Dragon.

 

Overdose of working on a composition: Some nice soothing music in the back room with a KK Dragon massage.  How about the Albinoni Adagio and a pint of Guinness to go with it.

I found my way back. lol... been a bit busy. moved to an apartment that still sits on the lake and I got a new job. I don't remember the last time I was here. I don't remember if I mentioned my daughter is living with me. I took up oil painting and I still draw from time to time.

It looks like it's been busy since I've been away.

I'm taking a lot of practice tests for Canadian citizenship. I tell ya what, I DO NOT do well on the symbolism questions.

 

One asked me why the Battle of Vimy Ridge was important.

 

One option was that the Canadians kicked enemy ass. So I marked that.  Wrong!

 

The correct answer is that it solidified the Canadian reputation as brave soldiers.

 

Oh, I'm so sorry. I was not aware that the Canadians were bumbling around up until that point, shooting themselves in the face, because they didn't know which side of the gun the murdery bits came out of. Silly me.

 

Another asked me why the Canadian Pacific Railway was important.

 

One answer was that it provided easy access to the west coast.  Wrong!

 

The correct answer is "unity."

The policy wonks have been at the Citizenship coaching sections, clearly.

 

Vimy Ridge was important because it detached the Canadian Army from the Brits and showed them some new thought.  Imagine telling all the foot soldiers what the plan was, and giving them all maps!  Brigade must have been mad!  What really happened at Vimy Ridge was:

 

1. The debunking of Colonel Blimp
2. The identification of Canada as a real nation and not just another colony

 

The CPR joining east and west was fine at the time.  And yes, politically, the aim was to unify the country preventing B.C. from either going it alone or joining the United States.  The present government being from the west, has discovered that they have a tiger by the tail and the east might just turn around and eat them.  The railroad did a lot to submerge this dichotomy, but it is still boiling away under the surface.  The western provinces are still feeling inferior, and by this time there is no reason for their sense of inadequacy except that they keep voting for the CCF (party) a,k.a. Reform party, a,k.a. Preston Manning, a,k.a. the Conservative Party of Canada.  In the east CCF stands for Canadian Constipated Farmers, and they have a lot to live down.

 

Funny, isn't it, that the chief engineer who designed and build most of that railway, Sir Sandford Fleming, was canned in a political move just before the railroad was completed.  There was a change of government at the time, and the rats (fat cats) all ran for cover.  Visit Halifax sometime and ask about Sir Sandford Fleming.  He stands over the Maritime Provinces like an umbrella and rightly so.  Trains run on time because of him.

 

Good luck on your citizenship effort, Ian.  Another sane voice in the country is needed.  And next year, remember to vote.  Vote as you like but be sure to vote.

Nonny I don't copy other peoples work. I paint my own pictures. I am still learning technique. I like Bob Ross's paint wet on wet. However it is not easy and proving to he harder than it looks.

By making your own, I meant the paints.  Many artists grind their own colours from natural elements and rocks.

Well, you couldn't by commercial colours all that long ago.  The grand masters had to either make their own or have an assistant who did it.

I'll do some research while I learn use the brushes right to paint the pictures I want to paint.
