ok... so i was showing the game to a friend of mine and i showed him how you build houses and factories and then he raised a valid point....

why!!! doi pay so much money to build houses when the citizens are the one who are supposed to pay me for the property and housing?!?!?!?

i dont think any of you guys got a free house from the government.... lololol

yeah i think something should be done to balance that with reality....

what do you think?

yeah but taxes are only like 15 percent if you want to keep them happy where in real life we pay up to 40 percent (depending on state)

as well as where houses and property in some places could cost well up and over a million and that is one way real cities make a lot of money....

where i live microsoft just paid over a billion just to be able to build in redmond and bellevue which is a lot of money for the city

and if the game were like that it would have made it much more easier to make money

You don't pay to build the house, you pay to designate zoning for a particular area/lot, and then to upkeep the empty space. Then when something builds there, you get taxes from it but then have to pay for the power plants, water towers, schools, hospitals, etc.

You can tax how ever much you like, but you've got to keep people happy; too many taxes and people will up and leave. Also...remember that while this IS a reality-based simulator, it's also a game, and so generalizations are made to make it easier/more fun/whatever.

Ah, but remember, the city doesn't build buildings unless they're government structures. They just sell land once, and tax the private owners for the amount of land they own, and the structures on said land. They also tax land transfer when private owners sell homes to another private owner.

So if the city wants to take back the property they'd need to pay the private owners fair market value for the land to take it back. Which means each time you'd want to expand that road, you'd have to pay out big time before you can even start working on the roads.

There are just some rl concepts that wouldn't translate well into a fun game.

true but i still think that citizents should pay something for that piece of land and not just taxes which we end up wasting on services for those bums to keep them happy so basically its a big circle of crap where the citizens pay for services and dont leave us much to expand with

You all have valid points, but since it is a game that designed for fun and entertainment and not exact real life situations. There are many reasons why you pay a lot of money just to zone, but to make it true, in real life you need to have good conditions to be able to build stuff on, stable ground, correct ground elevations, ect. And this way the game just automatically justifys that.

They do...but they pay the companies that provide those services. The city builds the pipes and wires and water towers, but the city doesn't own the companies that provide the utilities (and if they do, then it's non-profit and paid for by taxes, anyways).

    Hehehe, just a game folks

You pay the money for physical zoning, infrastructure costs and oh those damned "consultants" the costs are recouped in taxation

Oh and remember, this game was built in france - the EU,  2.gif LOL

Also, you're just setting the tax rate for the city - for the city services (one could argue at least).  Things like water, power, roads etc.  Not the government taxes.  Therefore a tax rate of 15% is quite reasonable, if they're paying another 30% to the national government in income tax etc.......

Think about it like this.  Since your the only one who can do anything in your city, if you didn't then who would?  Or you can say to your self that that since the position of Mayor is unpaid, you wear a second hat as a real estate developer.  A corrupt one at that, since you use city funds. 2.gif

Not in a socialist system. Which is the type of country the game was made in. So of course their more likely to model it after their own government.

The thing that I find more odd though is that they cost you money. In RL most of those entertainment places are privately owned and they MAKE money they don't COST money. Unless I guess since it's a socialist setup all the people are getting free passes? 3.gif

In no way does the gonvernment own public attractions like that in the EU... We are not anywhere near that socialist minded... It is simply a gameplay feature - and one that truly doesn't make much sense at all...
