Sim City 4 contest: a closure to the game

I just recently made a youtube video contest. I made this contest because whether you agree with it or not, Sim City 4 will now start to fall to Cities XL. I made this contest so hopefully players can show the best of the game. Even though it is a contest, I want the main focus to be just to show how great the game has been.

ummmmm

you should've included some city building or something... not just the box

sc4 will not fail to cities.... i have bought 2 copies of sc4 since cities was released...

sorry but i wont be contributing to your work... i dont like the idea of a montage to say goodbye to sc4... its like one of those every 10 minutes programs they have at school where they make a video of people dying to show how people die in cars due to drugs/alchohol but then you see them the next day and say hey whats up

it would be like that... i would show off some aspect... and then go right back to playing it the next day and make something totally different, and yet still satisfying to me

bad idea for a video... (my opinion)

our world is a simcity

I doubt it will fall. There's a too strong of a fanbase for SC4, there's far more content for it, and it seems the general assumption is that CXL was a bit of a flop.

Ive been away from the game for some time now, although I havent heard anything about Cities XL. How is it better than SC4 to draw everyone away?

Rush Hour will never die, It managed to survive the last 6 years succesfully. Just look at the current fanbase that visits this website. And all the custom content that has been created for it. From what I have heard so far cities xl will never get close to the same gaming experience. ( I would have tried cities xl myself, but the demo is no longer working..)

I participated in the CXL beta test and I can tell you that CXL will never ever be a challenge to SC4 RH. CXL at it's current state is something that the real SC4 player will get bored of within hours. Have a look at the CXL forums and the official page to see how narrow the content offered is right now. For example, can you imagine a city simulation without public transport???? You will only get public transport as an addon for those "online game" buyers (Planet Offer of CXL). Or, the look of your city won't change throughout the game since there are no "growth stages" at CXL. I can't even imagine loosing this "wow!"-effect when looking over long forgotten parts of your city in SC4 and dicovering how this part of the city has evolved! And so much more to be said about CXL ...

CXL might be a nice, colorful game, but it won't reach the realism and tremendous variety offered by SC4 RH it's tons of the custom stuff. To me CXL is just an simple (compared to SC4) arcade style city builder, but never ever a city simulation like SC4.

Anyone who wants a detailed information on CXL (in it's beta state, of course, I obviously didn't by the official version) just PM me.  It's not that I would warn of buying CXL, it's just that you should know there's a big difference and it's definitely not the SC4 successor.

So, no reason to say goodbye to SC4 - we still will be playing this game for quite a long time from now ..

Cities XL does not measure to SC4 in that in order to add extras and public transportation to the CXL cities, you have to subscribe to the online game website, which many SC4 fans are not willing to do. SC4 is modifiable and with thousands of custom content files covering all aspects of the game, SC4 will be playable for years to come.

SC4 will fall when CXL has: real public transport, a good amount of custom content and mods (thus a good amount of custom content makers and modders), a good fanbase, no subscriptions, a real solo play mode...

Also, think that many of us don't have computers capable of handling CXL; this game will have to wait for that "computer generational upgrade" that could take some years...

Yes, Sim City 4 is coming to an end. Just as I am coming to my end, the Earth is coming to its end and the universe beyond. SC4 will out live all of the aforementioned however. It's echoes will be felt throughout the multiverse until time is no longer relevant. Whilst that's not necessarily true, I do believe it will last a few years yet. I don't think it was necessary to make a video signalling the death of a game that's very much still alive, and shows no signs of disease. CXL is just a cold. No need to even take a day off because of it.

My computer won't play CXL, but that's no shame. I remember the hype, and now I read all the disappointment, and I'm pleased I couldn't splash out on it in the end. Sure it looks pretty, but its makeup is tattooed on. We can wipe clean the face of SC4 and paint it anew any time we want, and we don't even need to pay extra for the privilege!

Yeah, I think it's a little premature to call the mortician for SC4, last I checked there were still hundreds of thousands playing it and a very active community.  In fact, I would be willing to bet that even once a real sucessor *does* come along (and sorry, but CXL is not that sucessor) people will still be playing SC4, whether because they don't want to upgrade their computer, they still enjoy the projects they've built, ot they're just happy with the current format.
