  1. Cantondale Road Projects

The city council thanks you for your votes on the avenue expansion project. Of the planned routes: The yellow, blue and pink routes have been constructed. The brown route is currently under construction with plans to extend it further bordering the engineering univeristy. With the avenue expansion projects nearly completed, the council is debating on how to extend the tram line. The pink route show here. Here is the corner of the pink and blue routes. Construction is underway for the avenue to replace the local streets. The yellow route entends through the traffic cirlce, the purple route has not been extended as far orginally planned. With the yellow route completed new sky scrapers and high rise buildings have sprung up. The avenues have had the result desired. Traffic now flows through this part of the city much more efficently. Farms have been threatened and more developers are offering large sums of money for the farm land neighboring the expanding city. Two farms were bought by the city for the expansion of the avenues. The city is now faced with what to do with this now vacant land. Two farms in this area remain, should development include these two farms? or just the available land? Some council members want to construct a city services complex to the right of the traffic circle. With the growing population the demand has increased for health, education, and protective services. One service has recently been completed, the engineering university. The new university is considering a partnership with local farmers for access to farm land if a degree program in agriculture is offered. With the avenue extended the forested land has been sold to a commercial developer. As the construction continues a small commercial strip develops on the corner. The tram yellow line has been given approval and final designs for expansion along the avenue on the other side of the ciy. The staging area for tram construction. A large plaza is now in the location of the construction equipment staging area. The yellow line extends along the hightech industrial avenue and ends at the rail crossing. With the completion of the yellow line, new highrise developments have moved in. With many of the farmers resistant to selling farm land, many of the homes have been redeveloped into apartment buildings and midrises into highrise buildings. Pressure is increasing to begin development on the farm land neighboring the combined transit station. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Traffic has increased on this street. The city council has plans to place a tram on street or tram on road line shown here with a station to entice more commuters to travel by tram rather than car. The park will be replaced with a loop and station, trees will be planted in the middle of the loop. Its time for your vote: A) Do nothing B) Tram on street C) Tram on road D) Dont remove the park, remove the street and plant trees! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Replies: MayorAwesome I use Picasa to capture my in game screen shots. Using the prtscn button on my keyboard and Picasa is the easiest method I have found to save repeated screen shots without having to leave the game. Samerton & clarkjordan12345 A rural highway could still work and be implemented later, something I never thought about. We'll see what happens with long term development. Thank you for your views, votes and comments.
  2. Smalltown USA

I like the farming island in the 7th picture down.
  3. Winthrop container port completed

Development has continued the port in Winthrop. Recently the container and cargo port have been completed. Port Authorities have plans to develop a bulk materials port for resources such as coal, oil, and iron ore. For now with the completion of the port, construction on the commercial warf and fishing docks has been scheduled to begin soon. Rail and expressway connections remain to be finished. WInthrop will need a large population to support the expanded port and industrial areas. Ships await approval to dock at the newly finished port. At the end of the man made peir cargo ships dock. Here is the high capacity container docks where three ships can dock and containers can be transported by road or rail. Three more container ships dock on the far side of the port. The shipping channel is already full with ocean going super ships awaiting a free dock. The completed port has numerous rail connections for the moving freight. The expressway remains to be compleated. Winthrop sold large numbers of bonds to complete this port. Officials are betting on becoming the freight transportion hub of this part of the region. Winthrop needs further expansion of residential and commercial areas to be able to repay bond debt without raising taxes or cutting services. With the port development taking four years, only sixteen years remain to increase cashflow to repay debt. ------------------------------------------------------ Cantondale road works update: City officials were thinking along the same lines as 13orthr and have adjusted the proposed avenue expansion project. They thank you for your votes, and ask that you vote on this new plan. You can vote for as many lines as you feel would relieve the traffic problems found in this area. Vote now! The polls are open. Vote for any or all of the routes -Red (3 votes) -Yellow (3 votes) -Purple (2 votes) -Blue (5 votes) -Pink (5 votes) -Orange (2 votes) -White (1 vote) -Black (4 votes) -Brown (4 votes) For example you can vote for red-purple-blue-pink. Votes are still being taken, submit your vote for avenue expansion. --------------------------- Thanks for the replies and votes. Cisco2 The curved streets, roads and rails can be found in the latest NAM. The gentle curves give any city a nice look and feel.http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=21355
  4. Cantondale becomes a city

Cantondale has seen impressive growth, the population has broken the 65,000 sim mark. With this rise in population, Cantondale is no longer a village with this population increase, it is now classified as a city. The new hospital has helped to fuel growth. This area is still plagued by heavy traffic. The red lines illustrate where heavy traffic problems exist. A massive pile-up has taken place on this diagonal street. Canton Technical Institute has opened its doors after the completion of phase one. CTI is considering a partnership with the local farmers for the expansion of the Institute on these farmlands in return for an agriculture school. The church and private school above it are considering moving away from the rapid urban development. Transportation officials have picked this location for the latest tram expansion. Expansion of the trams red line on this avenue has helped to reduce commuter car traffic. Two phallic buildings are built neighboring this historic church. Who approved this development? More sims want to live near the lake, the houses have been replaced with high wealth condos. City officials are considering this location for a high capacity school. 5. Winthrop begins port construction

13orthr, great idea.  The town council is reviewing votes and plans.  Results are forthcoming.
  6. I have a suggestion. I dont know if this is the proper place for it, anyway. Ive wanted to make large manufacturing centers like automotive plants. Take the two links as examples: maps.google.com/ maps.google.com/ Ive highlighted two auto plants where the buildings have rail lines entering the buildings. I would like to see something similar, as well as massive manufacturing buildings seen at those two French auto plants. Here are a few other examples, not all of them are huge industrial buildings: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=48.761896,1.986519&spn=0.00621,0.018218&t=h&z=17
  7. Prospectors search the region.

Gagwee, you can find those curved streets and much more if you have the NAM: http://sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=850 http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=21355
  8. Winthrop begins port construction

With the recent growth of Cantondale, the logging industry of Potsdam, and the mining opperations of Boulder Village; the growing region requires a deep sea port. Welcome to Winthrop. The first coastal community in the region begins with a small village set up on a the top of a hill. Construction of high volume freight line, high volume freeway and the port have begun. Using the wind from the sea, the community has harvested it for electrical power. A small farming community is the first to establish. The sims set up residency on the top of the small hill. Farms are not the only source of employment or industry. The consolidated school has a local football team. The high volume rail line emerges from a tunnel making its way to the coast and the port. The train station has been replaced. The village council has decided to relocate it at a later time. Construction begins on developing a commercial waterfront. The high volume rail line is still under construction. A rail spur breaks away to the coast. Work begins on the construction of the the freeway. The temporary port will soon be over shaddowed by the new high volume deep sea port. All available back fill from neighboring towns and villages are sent via rail for the expansion of peirs for the deep sea port. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- An second update from Cantondale: The population continues to increase. It now approaches 58,000 sims. With this increase traffic problems have only gotten worse. The town council despretly needs solutions for the avenue expansion. Please vote below. Four routes are suggested to solve traffic problems and connect the midrise district to the town center. With the town council not yet ready to repeat the same mistakes with the expressway expansion, they turn to you. They seek the advice of fellow city leaders. Vote for your preference in avenue expansion. Votes will be taken until the next Cantondale update. The red and yellow routes have the same starting location and ending location. The brown route extends the avenue near the future tech school and ends with the yellow and red routes. The pink route will expand the avenue in the opposite direction into suburbia. Avenue Expansion Vote: Red route Yellow route Brown route Pink route Vote now!!! Votes are still be taken, the running count is: Red: 3 Yellow: 0 Brown: 4 Pink: 0 The farmers are not pleased with the brown route and urge the council to choose the yellow or red route.
  9. Boulder Village mines ramp up production

I have the SAM plugin.  But I have always had difficulty controlling where the dirt streets stop and start.  Are there any secrets?
  10. A Return to Potsdam

Its been some times since we have gotten reports from Potsdam. With Cantondale completing the expressway to the Potsdam word has arrived describing what changes have taken place. A logging company has set up opperations and company homes. The company housing units for the loggers. A plup process plant and rail access for the saw mill. A lumber yard turns fallen trees into wood products to be shipped around the region. Potsdam not only has a lumber industry, but also agriculture. Potsdam is still a small community, with only 10,000 sims. The farmers dont yet feel pressure from the expanding residents. A suburban rail station for connections to industrial areas and Cantondale. Sims love their homes surrounded by high and thick trees. Potsdam still enjoys close connections with clean industry. Both the industry and commercial sectors are placing pressure on the village council for the ability to expand. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- An update from Cantondale: The population continues to increase. It now surpasses 54,000 sims. With this increase traffic problems have only gotten worse. The town council despretly needs solutions for the avenue expansion. Please vote below. Four routes are suggested to solve traffic problems and connect the midrise district to the town center. 11. there is something foul in the water!, night time!

    Nice night shots.
  12. Road projects continue in Cantondale

Returning to Cantondale with word they have large scale construction projects in the works. Expansion continues on the highway which will soon connect Cantondale with Potsdam. However engineer's inexperience with designing road way, construction continued before complete design plans were finalized. Construction workers begin to prep the land for the road surface. Engineers change the plans after being faced with how to route the highway in the close proximity to the river. The road is pushed as far as possible away from the river. Removal of the original east bound lanes make way for the new design. Progress is made, but now engineers are confronted with the hill in front of road. Construction workers finish laying sod up to the rail viaduct, waiting for the finished plans. The road plans changed once again, and engineers went with two ramps to climb the slopes preventing progress. The finished expansion along the river banks. Potsdam is nearly connected by road. The finished construction zone. Meanwhile, construction finished on the trumpet interchange which will connect downtown Cantondale to the highway. Returning to the suburban district on Cantondale, we see further expansion of the middle class up the slopes. All of this development has taken place with no long term traffic plans. There exist no main collector roads bringing traffic into the commercial district. Traffic problems begin to present themselves. Civil engineers must find solutions. The recently finished water town sits above the old towers which await demolition. Streets are paved for a new water side residential community. With the mistakes made during the expressway expansion, Cantondale decided to fund the construction of a technical school specializing in engineering. The town board hopes this investment will result in better designed transportation networks in the future. A site has been chosen for the technical school. The public wants the industry further away from the town center. The industrial buildings above the train station will be demolished making way for higher education. Construction begins on two site. Rumors suggest the site on the right will expand closer to the farms. With the expansion of middle class homes up the hill side traffic has increased in this area: Expansion of the avenues are suggested. Four routes are suggested to solve traffic problems and connect the midrise district to the town center. With the town council not yet ready to repeat the same mistakes with the expressway expansion, they turn to you. They seek the advice of fellow city leads. ------- Thanks for the replies. iGod: Are you refering to the rock textures on the steep slopes, or the plopped rocks I have around the mining sites?
  13. Boulder Village mines ramp up production

A new mining village recently sprung up. Word of Boulder Village only recently reached the rest of the Peninsula Ridge Region when transportation networks were connected. Nestled in the vally of two mountian peaks, early residents discovered large quantities of coal and clay. After this discovery, those who could bought up the land where coal was discovered. A company mining village was soon constructed. The clay pit mine and neighboring rail yard. A clay strip mine in the side of the hill. The strip mine with a rail line for quick transportation. The first industrial center with a small scale coal mine. The company set up company housing for mine workers. With the narron vally, the company houses spring up further down the vally. Housing is foriced to back up the the main rail line. The trees are not thick enough to keep the noise down from constant coal shipments. As the main road heads south to the bottom of the vally, farms find more flat land to develop. A tunnel is completed for a direct route east to the other side of the mountian. Mining opperations quickly pick up, two massive piles of coal await the coal washing The coal washing facility neighboring the two coal piles. Massive piles of gravel and bedrock surround the washing facility where the hillside was cut into for more industry. The mining companies look for the next plot of land for for text mines and industrial facilities. The mining village and company housing. Thanks for the replies, more coverage to come on this expanding region. (I try to remember to turn off the grid before screen captures.)
  14. New Construction Projects

The Town of Cantondale has full coffers and have chosen three large scale projects to improve the growing town. The continues expansion of the first divided highway in the region. Engineers must make adjustments to the rail viaduct. The rail line viaduct extended into the cut hill making room for the highway expansion. Retaining walls have been constructed to keep the soil from sliding into the lanes of traffic. Engineers must now figure out what to do about the water infront of the highway expansion. Noise barriers were errected to reduce noise from the highway and the rail line. With the red line expanding, it was prudent to build a new combined rail and tram station. Crews begin to level land high up on the hill side for the new water tank. The tower crane arrives in preperation for construction on the new water tank. The new water tank is finished, now water pumps and a power source are being built. Four high capacity water pumps have been installed. Solar pannel provide power to the pumps to fill the tank during the day during max usage, the new storange tank ensures water is available through the night. With expanding transportation networks, and a new water distribution system, Cantondale is ready for future growth. Thanks for the comments and views. More coverage to come.
  15. Fire breaks out in Cantondale

Farms continue to feel pressure from the expanding town. Some farmers are cashing in on developing farm land that boarders the town center. A small village center springs up away from the main town center. Town engineers prepare for the expansion of farming street into an avenue. Expansion of the aveune continues. The completed aveune, now some residents want the red line expanded. A construction staging area has been established for the future red line expansion. Residents continue to move up into the hills. Cantondale's surburban sprawl but with more trees. Sims can only build homes up the hill as long as the they can still get water from the water towers. With the rapid home expansion, fire coverage has not kept up with the threat of fires. The firefighters were unable to respond in time. A second building catches fire, this time the firefighters were on route still thinking they could save the first house fire. Yet a second house is lost to the flames. Residents are not pleased with the existing fire coverage. New homes go up once the rubble is cleared, and the fire department sets up another fire house. The town board decided on a tram car to use. At this intersection, traffic problems havent been solved. kolnikov inc, I dont recall installing CAM, I have downloaded many of the farms from STEX and LEX.
