Not sure if this is how many sales they have made but my order number was close to 679k.

If it is correct they are looking at about 27 million is pre-sales based on the US price of 39.99

I am pretty sure that the order no did not start at #1. I ordered on the 4th of september and my order no starts with 649xxx

Speculating that I pre-ordered very early you are looking at something around 30k * 39.99 = 1.199.700$

Actually that's wrong. Order numbers do logically coincide with how many orders. The starting number is the real key. If a guy who purchased Sept 4th (above) says he was number 649,000-ish and a guy who purchased in October was 679,000-ish, then we can logically assume they've sold 30,000 units in that time period. As the guy pointed out above, that means they've probably made well over a million. Probably much more, assuming preorders went back further than Sept 4th.

And the more they make, the better off we are.  I hope they are rolling in billions of dollars soon from this game, because that means a better game is on the horizon.  All of you who are SimCity fans should be using this thinking.  Not the childish thinking of a big company trying to make money off us, as if its evil.  If they are a responsible company, the more they sell means the more they will pour into enhancements.  They can finally pay their bills, and may begin making this the game we've always wanted. This is how business works.

I dare say it was a financial decision which made SimCity4 the last game of its type. Lets not let that happen again  If they don't make a fully functional stand-alone version of this game, they are nuts.  I agree. If it happens, we just communicate that to the company.

They may NEED to keep the online incentive going to help offset their expenses for awhile.  If so, expect it.  That's how business works. You all claim to be Sim enthusiasts, you should understand economics.  Those of you who have the $ - lets spend it, and become investors.

If the game ever becomes like the video caps i've seen of it, then they deserve to be wealthy.

I am from the UK and saw earlier on game.co.uk that if you purchase the game preorder with them, you get a free St Pauls cathedral landmark.

Are there any other offers such as this? Does this also mean that there will be free content ready to pick up as soon as you get the PO?

If you pre-order Cities XL Limited Edition you get:

5 additional maps for Solo mode

5 additional exceptional buildings

1 exclusive City hall

A unique T-shirt for your avatar

A special web badge

2 Megastructures

This should work for both single player and PO as nothing else is mentioned on the website.

Do you guys think that CitiesXL has gone gold yet?

Do St Pauls catherdral and Nelson coloumn come with the Limited edition or are they completely seperate?

I for one am excited about the potential of new buildings being released as you go. I know we have STEX, but I like the idea of having buildings released that fit the look and feel of the game..and I would assume that all custom content in the future would have to fit in with this standard. STEX is amazing, but some stuff isnt as good as others etc which can leave cities looking a little disjointed.

Actually, the pre-order number is at the top of your browser window. When you are at the invoice screen, the title of the browser window has the number of the order.

Hello,

We're pleased to confirm your pre-order of Cities XL Limited Edition.

We will send you your download links for the game via email the moment they are available then, on the day of release, the 08/10/2009 at 00:01, you'll get an email with your activation key.quote>

How do you guys translate the above? Should we receive a download link for the client before midnight on wednesday?

Looking at the following page www.gamesplanet.com/UK/pc-games/buy-download-Cities-XL-Limited-Edition-1481-17.html states that the link to the client should arrive at the same time as the key. Not to mention that they have a different date: 09/10/2009 at 00:01.

When i (and i am sure many other people) pre-ordered the game there was the promise of a comprehensive bus system, to be released free to everyone, even non-PO subscribers, after the game has been released. now it seems that, after reading the interview with MC that we won't be getting that. below is a quote from that  interview:

"Mass transportation (including buses) will be part of the future features and, as such, will only be part of the Planet Offer."

but wait a minuite. MC knew buses wern't going to be ready for the games release, thats why they said we would all be getting them free after the game was released. so how can they just change their mind like that? we were promised buses, the official website said so, and then they just decide that, for no good reason, we can't have them. isn't that false advertising? so they are basically saying that important game features weren't ready when the game was released, so you will have to pay a subscription to get them, and if you stop paying you will loose them! how can they treat customers like that?

just another broken promise by MC.

i pre-ordered mine from play.com. i got the boxed version of the limited edition for £30.00, plus you get an exclusive nelsons column building. i have ordered tons of stuff from play.com and never had a problem. also the last couple of times i pre-ordered games from them they arrived 2-3 days early! but i have heard you need to register your copy online before playing (wherever you bought it from), even for single player. so even if you get it early you still can't play it until the official release date.

I sugggest pre-ordering from Steam ( http://www.steampowered.com ), especially if you're a PC Gamer. Steam is a product from Valve (makers of the Half Life series) and it is THE benchmark for purchasing and maintaining games over the internet.

If you buy CitiesXL from there, you can "pre-load" the game now, downloading it, and when it releases, it unlocks the game for you to use.

play.com have a pre-order chart with the most popular games to pre-order.

Cities XL: Limited Edition is No.12

Cities XL is No. 27

so it seems more people, including me, are paying an extra £5.00 for the limited edition. also, 12th isn't that bad, when you look at the other games in the chart.

also, play.com have changed the product status from 'pre-order' to 'in stock and ready to dispatch'.
