Well, I've made 5 so far, and I'm considering some others.

The create-a-trixie option is fun. I'm making a couple of those.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

lol, Chptrk, you weren't here last year. There is normally an automatic nom count somewhere, normally near the top of the page.

If we are going to have one this year, which I assume we will, it will be up soon. Its always a bit delayed from the beginning though.

I just made my first leg of noms. I'll save the rest for another day. I'm making many more this year as compared to last year!

Define "normally". There was one in 2008, and one in 2007. There was not one in 2006, 2005, 2004, or 2003. If there isn't one this year, I'd say statistically speaking that's more normal than not!

...although it would appear to be somewhat of a step backwards, granted.

I suspect that the lack of a live count this year may have something to do with the fact that we're now on ST6, not ST5, and that the current coding of the site no longer permits it or makes it as easily implementable.

Shall we say this?

Recent (which here is defined as the past two years) occurences of a nomination counter during Trixie nomination season point to the increased likelihood of a nomination counter appearing this year, however, this probability may be negatively affected by the changes in website coding which have occured in the period between last year's Trixie nomination season and the current Trixie nomination season. This statement is meant merely to give a rough indication of the changes in nomination counter probability, and is not designed to give a definitive assesment of the actual probability of occurence assosciated with said Trixie nomination counter.

Does anyone have a problem with this?

Either that award isn't awarded or is combined with another one.  Sometimes we look at the nominations and realize, oops, this really shouldn't have been two different awards in the first place.

btw,  we are at 398 now.

We cannot determine normality with such a statistically low count, sir! We'll need at least 10 years, sir!

Oh, and I must start nominating people

Um... this isn't about "normality". The normal distribution is for random variables; applying it to a dichotomy is absurd.

That said, you are correct in your assesment that only seven data points is a bit hasty in determining whether one of two possibilities is really more likely (although I don't know where you're getting ten from as a minimum).

If nothing else, though, five out of seven can't turn into less than five out of ten. So if no counter shows up this year, we've already proved that having a counter won't occur in a majority of those ten years. It can at best be a tie.

Turning a binomial distribution into a normal one (as long as your probability isn't too high) is a common practice and n = 10 is considered by some as the minimal number of trials for any significative result, but this is out of the scope of this thread I guess 45.gif (what I wrote was an incredibly lame pun to begin with anyway).

Hey, the counter's back!

trixienomcounter09.png

EDIT: Heh. Looks like I snagged it in a brief proto state there. "440 So Far" does sort of sound like 440 awards, not nominations. Now it's clearer:

EDIT AGAIN: and now the link is plain colored. Still playing with it, I see:

It's entirely possible.

But I can't say definitively, of course.

No, that was a routine ColdFusion update that decided to go crazy.

Make the site run on Ancaron tech... the hackers won't be able to make heads or tails of it, even if they got to the actual server. Also, it will be able to stay up even when it is being modified. (apart from an instant when the modifications go from being on a temporary version of the site for bug testing, to the actual version of the site.) Too bad the Ancaron aren't real, though...
