Once I finish my Wal-Mart and the other buildings in my queue, I might be willing to make a few NYC buildings. If such a thing occurs, could I "license" the NYBT name for my buildings?

I have new pics, but don't mind the glass...I was experimenting with it. I'm changing it back-

There's some mullions on the top windows on that part of the base but they're not really noticeable with this glas texture. It was just a test, I'm changing it back...and man I gotta quit staying up so late...summer does that to me...

Whenever you suspect that new posts have been added, you can simply look at the URL bar, e.g.:

https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=37&threadid=109246&enterthread=y&STARTPAGE=53

...and edit the number at the end, after "STARTPAGE=", increasing it by 1 - in this example, the result would be:

https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=37&threadid=109246&enterthread=y&
STARTPAGE=54

This will get you to the desired page.

Eheh, easy T Wrecks ^^ I have to admit, page flip bug is annoying indeed, but sometimes, you cant just tell if there is more on the other page (or if there is other page) for instance, when the last reply is from the same person who posted the last reply on the "last" page. people go into the last page, and see that reply and think that it ends there.

\in topic: the bat is coming along well. i'll just add some advices: textures are very clean, to much clean I would say. the lower terraces are empty of everything. you could add some potted plants or something like that there. even more, the roof texture are clean (as said before). try to add some dirt, some texture variation, think that would improve the BAT. finally, a gradient on the fa

you have couple of issues with this new building of yours.

First of all there is a technical one - gamma correction in Max hadn't kicked in. This is a know issue. It is already set by scripts, yet ignored by Max. All you need to do is go to Customize -> Preferences and there select Gamma and LUT tab. You don't need to change anything there (given that you have Max2010 or later) just click OK and everything will stat working as should.

Then on the modeling side - your proportions are seriously wrong. Wrong enough to really skew perception of a building. Main issue is, naturally that mass copy/pasted (by architect that is) window module. I think in your model it is a square window. Square that gets squashed by the game view. I'm not gonna start the whole vertical stretchy and when shall it be done (if ever) thing. I only want to point that as far as I see in the original the window is NOT a square, but rather vertically stretched rectangle with proportions of about 6 (width):8 (height) Coincidently this are exact proportions (1:1,33) that would give you at game zooms 5 and 4 perfect square shape.

Another things material of cladding. It is NOT a concrete, but aluminum panels. this would have a very different look, particularly in the shadow. Such cladding would pick up FAR more ambient and reflected light than concrete would. I think this should be reflected (pardon the pan) in the material setup for wall cladding.

So I did some more work with the base. And I need to add more roof junk on the base too. I should work on the roof textures some more, and make them dirtier and probably the walls too like Gn_leugim said. The base is probably what's going to make the model inaccurate oh well. It's close. 3.gif I thought about having a version for the Century21 Department Store, but I can't BAT 3d logos in Gmax...yet...so I think I'll just stick to the model without it. I was going to have a seperate version with the store at the bottom(like the real one).

This part is going to be hell...

The completely blank wall which makes this one W2W on it's back only. I'm going to make it a much more lighter grey...and soon I'll start on the sides of the base(which aren't W2W, there's windows).

What kind of 3d logos? you can make text in gmax, extrude it to a 3d object, and then add texture, even lights. Does that help at all? any other logo/sign can be made with a bunch of splines but obviously that gets messy pretty fast, e.g., the top of the RCA Victor Building i did a while back. xD

Ok So I've completely finished the modeling on this thing. The base is not that accuarate but hell its close enough.

I rendered it in game at HQ because I finished it and I'm proud of it. But I have to render it again because the night lights aren't displaying and I know why so it'll be fixed by the next render. I might change the back wall texture before I render but, that's probably the only change I'll do. I want to move on from it now.

Well, graffiti brightens things up, but i don't think theres too much of it in downtown, and the real building is mostly w2w with another. so brandon, if this is going in a nyc sc4 replica, then imo there's not much of a need to worry about that back wall. Will you ever see it when it's in your city?

Hm, difficult story, that back wall. To be absolutely honest, I respect your sense of realism, but for the sake of playability I could imagine a version that has windows on all 4 sides of the tower, and maybe at least some windows and/or loading bays at the back side of the base, too... you know, when this grows in game, the chance that it will grow back to back with a similarly structured (and similarly sized) building will be negligible. It's your choice, of course - I'm merely thinking aloud...

Well, I changed the texture I used for the blank wall to something better. I thought the tiles looked really weird...But since I finished it's rendering. It's going on the STEX soon. Probably in a few minutes or maybe an hour or two later. Depends on when I get to it....3.gif

I agree with T-Wrecks. Maybe just put windows, that way if a smaller W2W building grows behind it, it can still be W2W but also not have a massive blank wall 4.gif

Hey Brandon, it looks great! I can't wait for the release. The lever house is coming along slowly. I kinda got distracted trying to make a more accurate map of NYC using one from the STEX but i need SC4 terraformer to make it work and SC4terraformer doesn't work on Windows 7! I've spent like 3 hours trying to get it to work! ARGHHHH!!!!!! I need that flaming-eyes anrgy emoticon right now lol. Btw, I had an idea today. Brandon, I think the textures for 437 Madison Ave in Midtown would be almost the same as the ones you just used on 22 Cortlandt Street in midtown. So i might ask to borrow them in the future, if thats alright with you. 4.gif

lol actually it's still 50% Superstar's model, which imho was a total jumbled mess.  Maybe thats why he gave up on it.  lol  so whats the deal with realeasing it?  at some point his modeled objects will have all been replaced, meaning theres nothing of his left.  So who's model is it then?

Woah...I can't believe you got that one to load. I tried it before a while ago but my computer wouldn't open it in Gmax. Glad you got it opened. Maybe we could finish it with Superstar's permission? But from the pic, I can tell it needs some serious work.

I don't know which BAT from my..."little" list to do next...I thought about just doing the new version of 85 West Street...or starting on something else on the list...I'll have to see.

BTW, to all NYBT Members- About what I PMed you all about, I'm still waiting on every active member to reply, so we will know what to do from there.

Great, Paul, there will be UN headquarters, at last 44.gif. You will be able to publish it as your model, imo, but you should mention in the description, that it's based (inspired?) on Superstar's model.
