I'm VERY glad to say that I'm finished with the modeling process of 88 Rivington Street.

-->I've scaled the width to 8 meters (not exact, I need help to make it exact!) to make it modular with other W2Ws.

example2.jpg

If needed, I'll add more roof junk to make it look more urban like.  Anyway, I'm on to the texturing phase and need help on textures.  For example, I need good textures that I could edit and what-not.

Now, if I were leave it as is, could I add a prop of a townhouse to it?  Or does it have to be exactly in real life like I have to BAT the building next to it.?

Hmm... there's a typo on the Forum listings. It says "NYBT Team Room". Funny, huh?

4.gif

I think I'll upload 10 Hanover Square, then start a thread for myself. I was actually going to name it "Jumpthefence's BAT Atelier", because atelier is a cool word, but I opened Simtropolis this morning, and guess who had used it already...

SERAF!

RAGE RAGE RAGE!

Oh well. It's not that important, although it does make a good story.

On to the possibly completed BAT:

10hanoversquare10.jpg

I scaled the building around a bit. I think I scaled it to 89% in lateral directions so it could all fit on a 3x3 lot, and upwards to 120% or so. I also added nightlights. Click the picture to light it up!

Assuming anyone still reads this thread, I'm open to opinions.

Otherwise, this is going to be exported sometime this upcoming week, and then I'll open a BAT Thread.

No, a BAT Forge. That was my backup.

See y'all over at the soon-to-be-existent Jumpthefence's BAT Forge!

Good afternoon everyone.

I have serious difficulties to post directly pics of my One Bryant Park (Bank Of America Tower). Anyway, does someone could help me, and post pics of my building for me. I m looking for someone to create a nightlighting on it and to upload it. It's a voluminous file made with Gmax.

I really would like to have it, but I can't finish it. My building is by the way for sale^^ 9.gif

Is there any buyer here? 9.gif2.gif

Of course we still read this thread a bit JTF, there's been too many historic moments in this thread that can't be ignored! 3.gif Invasion of Soviet Skiis, the RAGING SMILEY FACE, and SimFox...showing...LOVE!!!!111!!!!one!!!! Anyway...the model looks great and I say go ahead and release it. And I can't wait to see the BAT Forge. 4.gif

Parisian, hmm I don't think my computer can handle such a building....I could give it a shot but I don't know for sure. Could we see a rendering preview? Most likely in your own thread. 9.gif

I'm not in NYBT, but since this thread is superceded by a whole team room, should we lock this thread and leave it for archival/reference purposes?

~ COMING SOON! Exciting new projects! ~

JTF, the building looks great IMO. 4.gif

Perhaps you could desaturate those green artillery shells on the roof... erm... wait, I mean the plants. Speaking of the plants, the top of that block behind them almost looks untextured - was the texture dropped during the render, or is it really that flat, clean and bright? If the texture is there, it might be worth a shot to try and darken it / dirty it up a little. Some slightly darker smudges along the edge of horizontal surfaces work wonders many times.

The night lights look good as well, except for some obvious mistakes:

1) You sometimes lit up one window at a building corner, but not the one immediately around the corner. This setup should be impossible IRL, unless there are diagonal walls. ;o)

2) You lit up some windows in the topmost floor, where there's actually just a curtain wall, but no room behind. I don't believe that their "disguise" of the roof goes that far. 3.gif

Oh, wait a second - aren't you going to light up the base/lobby at all?

Hey, why isn't anyone posting its updates here? 3.gif I always checked this thread out to see what new New York Bats I could expect. But I didn't see much lately. I saw there was an error on this page or something like that right? Does anyone now? 9.gif

Exactly what Todd has said. 2.gif

This thread is kinda just old now and more of a NYBT general discussion...I guess.

BTW, when it turns August 24, 2010 NYBT has officially existed for exactly 1 year. 9.gif

You'll have to excuse my absence and and the obvious lack of my BAT Forge so far. Let's just say my computer had really bad problems, summer homework is not fun, and working a front desk is a time-consuming job.

Ugh... why did I post that render picture? So many errors that are now being pointed out... ones I should have picked up on myself... makes me want to hit my head on the wall...

1.jpg

Nonetheless, those problems aren't going to fix themselves! Tally ho!

10hanoversquare12.jpg

So here's what I think it's supposed to look like.

0) A lot of materials were dropped during the render. I probably should have mentioned that. 24.gif In this render, it appears all the materials are there, including those on the tank-holder thing behind the plants. The roof texture is pretty bland, so if you want more grime, I'm all for it.

1) Actually, I did that nightlighting right, although the window variations screwed me up.24.gif The problem's been fixed on all the corners, as well as some places on the fenestration where it looked just odd.

2) Oh yeah...24.gif Fake windows don't light up.

3) Lobby lights? 24.gif Dang, this is not my shining achievement. Fixed!

So here's a link to a picture of the commercial version of the building. There isn't much I changed; only the roof overhang, detail (including removing the patio) and I made the incandescent lights a more office-like fluorescent color.

As the observant ones may have noticed, I modified the night lights a good bit, including lightening my incandescent color to one that's closer to the Maxis "Beige" and adding "Selection" variation. In case there was any confusion.

Any opinions are welcome.

I have to go wash this egg off my face, and I'll see you all later.

Looks good JTF, if you want, go ahead and put the grime on the roof. 4.gif If you really want to however...I think its fine as is. 2.gif

Wow it's been a long time since anyone has posted here.

Yesterday I came across this site:  http://www.moddb.com/company/maxis/related/downloads  where someone has uploaded a large quantity of our content without giving us any credit.  I know our stuff is online and free so this is to be expected, but I still contacted the site, letting them know that one or more of their members has claimed our works as their own.  I encouraged the site moderators/webmaster to either give us credit or remove our content from the downloads section.  The following is the exact email I sent:

Hello,
This is Paul, a member of the NYBT from Simtropolis.  I've noticed that one or more of your members has uploaded our content to you site without giving credit to the original creator.  While some members of my team would likely be ok with having their work redistributed, I doubt they would approve of someone else claiming their work.  Despite being available online, some member of my team have clearly stated that, while their work is free to download, it is not to be redistributed.  This request of theirs is protected under copyright law.  I believe they would be fine with having their content on your site, if you can give them credit for their work.  If you cannot give credit where it is due, please remove their content from your site.  The NYBT works were found here: http://www.moddb.com/company/maxis/related/downloads

Sincerely,
Paul

I'm sure this isn't the first or last time this will happen, but I felt compelled to do something about it.

I just checked that site out...this Killbuster14 guy is uploading other Simtropolis Member's content too...like skyscraper, Hanson784(something of his before he was with NYBT), and nycc06 and a few others I believe.

On his first upload of Kryptowhite's 599 Lexington he gave credit to NYBT and Kryptowhite...well I guess thats good even though he didn't really mention us on other files except put NYBT in the title. 3.gif I wish he would have asked for our permission to do this though...

I received the following reply from the moddb.com founder:

If you want I can transfer ownership of this content or provide "credit".

Is the original creator registered on ModDB? If not I highly recommend they

register and add their mod http://www.moddb.com/mods/add , similar to the

Simmars team: http://www.moddb.com/mods/simmars then I will transfer all

content to it. This way the mod can find more fans and we can get one step

closer to achieving our goal of listing all mods made.

I can assist if required.

thee is a saying if you can't beat them join them... Of course they/he did behave immorally and this reply is a very small fig leaf to cover it. Particularly cause it could be considered as a veil threat/ultimatum - either join here and increase attractiveness of that site, or else... meaning we did and will continue pirate your stuff.

On the other hand, the practical one I see no contradiction in such a suggestion with our agenda, really. We distribute this content for free anyway. And it wouldn't really be possible to make it into paying thing. (unless some indirect payments are considered). So why not...

Well if ya'll want that content under a credited name...I can go register. And possibly upload anything new so no one else still takes it...

I love how the reply was though. 34.gif "either join here and increase attractiveness of that site, or else... " is nicely put about it, SimFox. 3.gif4.gif

And Indeed...been a while since anyone posted here. Aww...I feel all nostalgic now.35.gif Guess this thread can still have some use, like turn it into a NYBT General Discussion Thread. 37.gif For like...stuff...45.gif

Yeah, I know his reply wasn't the best, but I don't think it's really hurting anyone to join that site.

Also, I think turning this thread into a general discussion thread is a good idea. We need a place for miscellaneous stuff.

*Robert DeNiro voice* "Did he just take our stuff? I will be watching you and I will bring you down to Chinatown."

Seriously though, I don't know if there's anything we can do about it, I think he should at least give credit where credit is due though. If you guys want to join his site then that's fine.

As for making this thread a general dicussion thread I think that's a good idea. We can have it as a tea room, or in our case a pizza joint.1.gif

Hey guy I haven't been around simtropolis (or the game for that matter) ever since I got a new computer, and I remember seen the Flatiron building was almost complete. What ever happened to it? Also are you planning to rerelease Kryptowhite's BATs? (like the AT&T Building?)

This Thread is very pageflip buggy... sorry about the late response serebii666.

Hanson still has the Flatiron building. But I can't say when it will be done, because I don't know.3.gif

Kryptowhite's BATs can never be released again...sorry. Very dissapointing...I miss them.

The AT&T Building was actually mine. 1.gif But I plan on a newer much improved version soon(probably not soon but eventually). It'll just take time, a lot of it...
