kage, most of these buildings are not finished yet, but some day.

threeswept, i haven't played simcity in months. i'm trying too make some different architecture to fit and some spanish style buildings to fit my region, but i guess i got carried away.

i decided to start the night lighting early:

i still have to make the interiors though (gift shop, restaurant, etc). i also found a picture of the roof, so that will be changed (mainly the very bright part in the top left corner).

JEC, please don't give up... I saw all those projects you've started... it's so great!  And I looked on the STEX, and you have only a handful creations there... 8.gif I hope you're able to finish some more! 19.gif

    JEC:

I am absolutely in awe of your creations!! You do great work. That being said, I have a request, if you're willing to take the challenge. I don't know if anyone has already mentioned it in this thread but, Calatrava designed the Milwaukee Art Museum. It's an absolutely gorgeous structure with a brise soleil that can open and close like wings. The building is reminiscent of a sailboat. Here is a photo of it:

    photogallery_NightMAM.jpg

More images can be found at the museum's website: here

I know it's quite an undertaking, but looking at your other work, I'm sure you could handle it! I'd be forever grateful if you'd be willing to take on the project. Thanks for reading!

JEC...It's really amazing to see the juxtoposition of your designs with each other. 19.gif It's very pan-Euro/Japanese. There's nothing more spectacular than seeing a hundred, two or even three hundred year old building standing next to these cool modern structures. With exception of very few American cities, it's unfortunate that a lot of architecture is of the past 30-50 years. Anything much older (in commercial structures, anyway) is torn down and something else built in it's space...even car parks!! Those cities are losing history and identity. I, personally, find little gratification in seeing something like Calatrava's work next to a 1970's office tower.

dargor, don't worry, i don't think i can ever give up.

nofunk, once i finish reexporting the plaza of the auditorio de tenerife, i will start it. i did mention making that building in the very start of this thread. finishing (soon at least) is another story, i still have to finish the city of arts and sciences.

everyone else, thank you. btw, i feel the same way threeswept.

here's a night lighting preview in game:
    Attachedhttp://3.forumer.com/uploads/simtropolis/post-2-1092228289.jpg>
as i said before the base is distorted so it needs to exported again; i also don't want to put night lights on it because my computer cannot handle it.

As long as I've been waiting for the Tenerife Opera House, I gotta say, it looks a little 3d. Is it textured yet?

This is coming along great...from my perspective. I do have one question about lighting, though. Is it too bright? I personally haven't explored much with the BAT (so, I'm not an expert), but I've noticed that there have been quite a few new lots on the STEX that are REALLY bright at night in the game. Maybe it's because it's close in and the white surfaces here that make it look bright??

Were you able to complete the Agora? I looked back in the thread, but don't think I came across it's mention again.

it is textured (i took it off the actual building).
i think the night lighting makes it look 3d.
i compared the lighting to other buildings and i think they look ok in game, not too bright. i still couldn't get the lighting right, but i think it looks fine.
about the agora, i started it, but it had too many polys and was too large to export. i had to make only half of it to export, that didn't work. i changed it to the umbracle in the city of arts and sciences, since they are both almost identical in structure, except the agora is bent.

on another note, i had a lot of time on my hand yesterday because of my mouth surgery, so i started the MAM, if i can get a preview up before the power goes out from the hurricane, i 'll show some progress.
i won't be able to export anything today for the reason mentioned above. i was planning on exporting the CAC (the museum by Zaha Hadid), but it takes too long. same with the plaza surrounding the auditorio de tenerife.

well, the hurricane turned and hit another city, instead of where i live. there was just heavy rain, nothing bad; the power didn't even go out.
luckily, because i saw the opening of the olympics, and i was a bit influenced.

the cables didn't render very well.
btw, i had problems rendering the MAM yesterday.

i found one picture of the torch, and it is not very close up. if the large torch is the same model as the smaller one, than it won't be a problem.
the roof is finished, started the interiors:
    Attachedhttp://3.forumer.com/uploads/simtropolis/post-2-1092523281.jpg>

are the seats varied in color? most pictures show the seats as a greyish color, but i have also seen some with different colors: blu, orange, etc. does anyone else know of this?
also, does anyone know where i can find decent textures for football (soccer), and track and field?
    thanks

here are some pics of the torch:

During the opening ceremonie I heard the torch is about 30m long, and it's placed on hinges.
I'm not sure about the color of the seats, but I think its a kind of light blue, the theme color of the olympics

i'm afraid that it won't export with the night lights (at least not on high).
i still need some textures for the ground of the interior.

Wow, now that's a masterpiece, the Olympic stadium in Athens (in other words, it's excellent).

Woohoo...that's really fantastic!! Good to know about the lighting...3d is ok, but when a lot lights up the entire city...well, that's not so good. Too bad about the Agora...but, then again, there's always something new to work on...

i think that comes standard with me. i will reexport the bottom of the auditorio tomorrow, so hopefully no problems.
i added the seating as well as the field in the middle.

you can't see very well in the picture, but the side walls are also completed (maybe i'll make a render of the original stadiun without  calatrava's roof).
i just have to work on the base and i'll be finished.

also, do do you think the roof should be more translucent?

Looks great. I would make it just about 10% more translucent.

Looks brilliant JEC. Just a suggestion, if you have the abitiies and time. How about making that pitch seasonal? You could have it so it looks like it's filled with water and have some sort of ceremony going on. Just a though.44.gif

    It looks brilliant JEC!

I suggest though that you add an athletic field with Javelin field, long jump tack and so on..... instead of a football field. They play football in other stadiums in the Olympics and as far as I know....no athletic field have been upploaded to the STEX yet.
