the east side of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank is complete. i might be able to finish the model, and possibly the lighting this weekend.

the building has 44 storeys. i tried to make a night render, but my computer ran out of memory. i'm somehwat annoyed about this as well as making such large buildings. so, i am starting some w2w buildings from the Calle Mayor and Gran Via in Madrid.
once i make progress with this i will make a new topic, but i will still finish all the buildings that i have already started.

6.gif I think it is amazing how you work on four or five projects at once and they all turn out to be great BATs!

Well, there are several people who are willing to render it for you.  Unless you mean it is hard to do the actualy modeling...

dusk, for the Hong Kong and Shanghai bank, the problem is that gmax lags because of all the polys, but i couldn't see a night test rendering on draft to see if it looked good (the rendering is fixed now).

since the rendering worked, i found out that my night lighting was horrible. so, i'm just going to ask here. what is the easiest way of doing this (i already modelled the interiors)?

    /idealbb/files/night

i have seen several buildings in simcity like this already, so please help.

    thank you.

i will have to give this model to someone else to export; won't even export on draft; it took about 30 minutes just for the day thumbnail. 7.gif'

great news everybody, i can't load the guggenheim gmax file, so it's corrupted, hooray. 44.gif

-i should have a backup somewhere, but it will be at least a month old, meaning that most of the hard parts are missing. so, this makes at least 3 bat buildings that have become corrupted. i may be losing interest now, so the guggenheim may never be released; it happened to the sydney opera house, and now it might happen to the guggenheim. 8.gif

Eek.. =(  Good luck.  I know people say this kind of thing all the time, but I think the finished Guggenheim would be the best building anyone's ever made for the game.

    thanks corlian.
i found a good backup and managed to remodel the hard parts and the restaurant fairly quickly.
i exported and unfinished draft model in-game to figure out the lot. currently it is 20 by 13 and i'm thinking of using one of peg's kits (if it is possible knowing what had happened) to fill in the river since it does not work properly over the real water. i'm also still deciding whether to keep the rail tracks or not. and still no textures.

Maybe it's best to leave all the edges land-based...I realize the real building was built to be on a river, but perhaps not everyone will want to (or be able to) place it next to water.

FYI JEC autobackups can be found in the GMax/Autobak directory.  Just select open, move to that directory and select all file types.  You can then go into detail mode and find out which one is the most recent file.  It can save you hours of headaches as the most your are going to lose using the autoback system is about 20 minutes of work.

ALSO, if you go to the custom settings, you can change the number of auobacks, ( up to 9 ) as well as the frequency of autosaves.

It looks good! Hopefully it won't get corrupted again (I have lost entire regions in the game by files getting corrupted)

i found some time to do some bating before i leave. i have started working on the Agora of the olympic site in athens, but the rendering of a part of the grandstand of the Sepang circuit turned out better:
    /idealbb/files/sepang
edit: i realized the canopy was inaccurate, the picture above is now the fixed, accurate version.

Congrats on being named a member of the BATT Squad, you'll make a great addition! You have so many projects in progress at the same time and they all appear to be of the highest caliber. I'll be looking forward to all of them. 44.gif

What's the status of the Emirates Towers?

By the way, you've done wonderful job on them, however, shouldn't they be taller? I heard they were the tallest buildings in Europe and the Middle East.

Being a Sydneysider myself, and having seen that building countless times, I can testify that the above model looks accurate.

    A few things:

    1. Great work!

    2. Are you going to put this on a lot that allows it to hang over the water as it does in real life?

    3. Great work! (wait, I already said that!)

FYI: the shells are an off-white colour. I believe that showing them as such would probably also fit into sc4 better. I can see you've made a start on that, though. I'll wait until

If you want any photos of the opera house, I'd be happy to take some next time I'm in the city... I love taking snaps of it!
