I don't have a Christmas desktop but I did make one for the new year. . . Well. . . Ok, so it's not quite what most people would be thinking. . .

ALBANY

This is a dual-screen display.  To do this, I took a very large image (over 3500 pixels wide), and used the Tile setting to get it to span both monitors so I don't have the same image on both.  Then I moved around the screens virtually in Display Settings until they were lined up pretty well.

Vista HP.  :-D

Full size (3120x1050):

EDIT: Apparently, this didn't work; it's not full size.  I might have saved the smaller version over the full size.  I'm not sure.

If anyone is interested in this picture, I can send it to you; there's a lot more than what is shown.  I couldn't get everything to fit proportionally on my desktop.

It's a sunset. I've had this picture on my HD for a long time, it's one of my favorite Mars pictures :-)

I just updated it, I thought the austerity of the shot was just awesome.

Let no one yield, we're on the field where deeds eclipse the sun; where the brave are told on a thread of gold, the tapestry is spun. As they speak of dreams, their armor gleams, this calm before the storm... Where all can see their destiny, the bishop takes the pawn.

Since I am, for the next couple of weeks, spending weekday nights at my grandparents' place due to dorm space not being available for the winter intersession, I decided I should probably have something a little less conspicuous as my desktop (this is what it was previously). As such:

Mine. If you're wondering, the taskbar pops out from the top (auto-hide).

My current Desktop... cluttered up as usual. The image is 2 bits of Stalker concept art (not done by me obviously) I stitched together since the original image was too small to be desktop material.

^^^that is an awesome picture. But I'm going to venture a guess you saved the screenshot as a jpeg in MS Paint, right? Because that's a no-no. Notice how dithered the icons and task bar are.

El Burro, that looks like a scene from The Chronicles of Riddick.

Here's mine:

Clickie, it's big!

To the goober who asks "Do you have enough icons on there?" the answer is no, no, I don't. Gosh, everyone thinks they're the first to say that.

I don't mind lots of icons, what bothers me is that they're strewn about in a disorganized manner, and that some of them are just files. I hate it when people save files right to the desktop. Files go in appropriate folders. The desktop is for shortcuts to programs and whatnot only.

Can you tell I have OCD?3.gif

In MS Paint, I save them in png format. If the png is too big to host on imageshack, I convert it to jpeg using GIMP- taking care to save it at 100% quality. MS Paint automatically saves it as 85% quality, and doesn't give you the option of making that higher (or lower)- hence why saving things as jpeg with MS Paint is a no-no.

Okay, you have GIMP on your computer and yet you still posted a dithered image. What's your excuse?

Wow, didn't think it really mattered to people that much what our images looked like in the off-topic section.41.gif  So yeah I saved it at 100% quality in GIMP.

Happy now?
