Elevador de Santa Justa

DSC_0351_new_one.jpg

view from Rua do Ouro

elevador.jpg

Description:

This is a lift located in downtown Lisbon and connects the importants streets of Carmo and Ouro to the top of Carmo hill. On the topo is an old ruins of gothic convent. It also works like a museum way of transportation and viewpoint.

http://en.wikipedia....anta_Justa_Lift

Why this would be beneficial for the game or community:

No exist any public transportation lift in the, since I notice. Can be an alternative way of transport in the city, and don’t need (I think) complex lines or lanes.

thank you in advance,

João

BRISTOL - Map of Bristol

Dear all BATters and Mapmakers:

Description:

Back in November, dobdriver on SC4Devotion kindly made a map of the Bristol area, for which I am very grateful, taking in the Severn Estuary and southeast coast of Wales. One will require Wouanagaine's mapper or terraformer to import it into the game.

However, unfortunately I have never been able to make it work in game or even get SC4 Mapper or Terraformer working on my computer (I'm on Vista).

Why this would be beneficial for the game or community:

From a purely personal point of view, my Sim City playing is on hold until I can get this region working in the game. Is there any way of making it compatible with Vista, either SC4 Mapper or Terraformer?

Anyone's help would be much appreciated as it's quite urgent. :)

They both DO work with Vista and Windows 7. Check out this thread at SC4D for instructions on how to make SC4Mapper work:

Sorry, I only meant for you to read the specific message that I linked to - not the entire thread. In order to make SC4Mapper work under Vista or Windows 7, you need to create a batch file to run the program. All credit for the following quote goes to user FLarsen at SC4D:

Do not move the documents folder, that's just a waste. All you need to do is fool SC4 Mapper into using the Windows XP style path:

- Start notepad.

- Write on the first line: set USERPROFILE=%USERPROFILE:Users=Documents And Settings%

- Write on the second line: SC4Mapper.exe

Save this as "something.bat". You can name it whatever you want, but it MUST end with .bat, not .bat.txt or anything like that. Also, you have to save it in the same folder as SC4Mapper.exe

Now just doubleclick on that file and it should work.

Still doesn't work unfortunately  . Is there perhaps a way to mak a grayscale image of the map and load it into the game traditionally like normal maps?

Tudor Buildings

Dear all Old Building/British Building BATters:

Description:

The Tudor architectural style is the final development of medieval architecture during the Tudor period (1485–1603) and even beyond, for conservative college patrons. It followed the Perpendicualr style and, although superseded by Elizabethan architecture in domestic building of any pretensions to fashion, the Tudor style still retained its hold on English taste.

Why this would be beneficial for the game or community:

There are a number of timber-framed European, most likely German, houses on the STEX thanks to the hard work of xannepan if I remember correctly. The English Tudor style however is different and sports a bold black and white combination of colour, fitting for any historic or realistic city in British or European style.

Here are some examples:

AXBRIDGE-KingJohnsHuntingLodge.jpg

AXBRIDGE - King John's Hunting Lodge

BRISTOL-DutchHouse.jpg

BRISTOL - Dutch House (partially damaged by the Germans in 1941, and later demolished completely)

What I've always sorely missed in SC4 are urban townhouses as can be found in cities as Antwerp or Brussels. (Click on the pictures to see the picture in Google Maps, you can wander around to see more examples).

generaaljacques.png

leuven.jpg

Description:

These houses are common in Belgian cities (probably also in cities in the Northern départements of France). They are built at the end of the 19th or beginning of the 20th century and can be found between the center of the city and the more suburban outter ring where buildings are more recent and lower. (First example: houses on the middle ring road of Brussels, second is the ring road of Leuven.)

Why this would be beneficial for the game or community:

As far as I know, no real urban townhouses like these can be found on the STEX or other SC4-websites.The available townhouses seem too 'suburban'. A less-region specific townhouse like this (a more 'universal' version) might benefit European citybuilder or lovers of European cities where most buildings are wall-to-wall. It would also make the transition between city centers and suburbs better.

Name: Kindom Centre

Location: Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

How it Would Benefit the Game and Community: There is an attempt at this tower on the STEX from many years ago, but I don't think the quality of the BAT does this beautiful building justice. The textures aren't very good, the shape isn't quite right, the base isn't right, and there are no jobs. I would do it myself, but my skills in the BAT just aren't sufficient for this kind of project.

USR Tower from I, Robot

I_ROBOT_SE_DISC1-124.jpg

I_ROBOT_SE_DISC1-77.jpg

Description: fictional HQ building of USR from the movie I, Robot. I have no idea how many floors it is but its taller than the Willis Tower that's for sure.

Why this would be beneficial for the game or community: I know this is a fictional building but it would make me so happy if i could plop this in the center of my city. also its just a bad ass looking skyscraper.

Hello everyone, I have two reasonable requests for you. Do any of these two stages. Or the João Havelange Olympic Stadium, or The Journalist Mario Filho stadium, the Maracana.

Follow the links below:

Seems like all the apartments I see are sided with brick. Out here in the Pacific NW, wood siding is much more common. Any luck in getting a few basic buildings?

I second this. I think there is quite a lacking of urban townhouses. Would definitely like to see some works from London, England's urban townhouses too, please.

This is quite an odd request, but I don't suppose anyone could design ploppable bodies? As in, deceased sims? I could really use them for my current city journal, but my attempts to create some with the BAT have been largely wasted. This would probably not be useful for pure builders, but would be very useful for CJers.

Multi Purpose Stadium

I don't think that something like this exists IRL. But I have created an inforgraphic.

Description

Most of the information is in the info-graphic. I provide a very large vision for this project for Multi-purpose stadiums for various capacities and wealth groups. So feel free to downsize it to fit your time constraints. The main idea is that using movable 4-tile wide stadiums, stands could be moved to facilitate various sports.

Why is this beneficial to the game/community?

I think that this useful for a wide variety of communities which would like to have stadiums for their favorite sports. Such a stadium could be used satisfy multiple communities. The urban area where land is precious or a lower density community(rich or poor) which cannot justify the construction costs for multiple stadiums could use the same mid-size stadium. If multiple capacities/wealth stadiums are available they too will be able to be used in multiple communities.

Description

Optima Camelview Village Condos are located at the corner of E Highland Avenue and N Scottsdale Rd in downtown Scottsdale, AZ. They are unique for their architecture and beautiful gardened terraces.

Some more info

Couldn't find any more helpful information. Sorry.

Why would this be beneficial for the community?

  • This is a stunning example of modern architecture with beautiful features, such as gardened terraces/roofs
  • It would be a wonderful addition to any city, especially modern cities; it would be a unique complex of buildings to add to any skyline
  • There are not many, if any, BATs from Phoenix; if anyone BATs this, you'll be one of the, if not the, first to BAT a building from Phoenix
  • If anyone BATs this, I'll love you forever. :P
