Looking real good Joe.  I think you should add in some tables and chairs for the restaraunt though.  It would help bring the building to life.  I also have a plan to illuminate the entire interior of the top so it would look a little bland without the dining setup.  Let me know when you get to a point where you can send it to me.

excellent rubik!!!... I had actually typed up the part about tables and chair with inside lighting <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/22.gif> but I figure it may be too small to see....  but I'm glad that you will be helping to add this detail <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/9.gif>

That is very cool! You are just allround... Your cities are great, your lots are great and now your BAT-creations are great too! <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/1.gif>  How long has it been since you started with Gmax? I want to learn doing the same... I just started, and I am not American/English... makes it harder <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/15.gif> I hope you would like to do other landmarks like that <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/9.gif>

Well adding tables and chairs might be a little difficult for a few reasons basically the building is mostly solid with the excpetion of window panes and the bottom portion. I did this becuase of the angle sc4 has. But i can give it a show. I also need to do a ton of work in the base becuase of how much of it you can see but i cant get a good picture of the base really to go off of. Anyway how abotu i send you the dwg file now. I only say this so maybe you could sort of get an better idea as to what im saying. Pluss im having problems importing the middle section to gmax without mjor distortion and i dont have a copy of 3dsmax to import to first like you suggested. So perhaps the best thing to do would be if you could get it into gmax then i could add textures and perhaps tables and such then send it back to you for lighting or you could have just done lighting beofre i texture.

I just hate to do all this work right now and get all the messed up polygons in the middle. Anyhow how do you want me to send it? Do you have msn messenger if so just add me and then you can tell me what all you want. my name is jrg_athlon@msn.com . Again thank you very much for doing this. And if you dont have msn then we will figure soemthign else out i guess.

Oh and just thaught of this but if your talking about the revolving resturaunt you cant even see that in sc4 due to the angle. It is the lower disk. There is only a small consession stand on the barely visble  upper disk. So i guess its the towers base that will need all the interior stuff.

Well i really have yet to do much in gmax other than texture and move things like hvac units around in gmax dargor. I use autocad 2004 for all of the moddeling on both of these buildings. And until about 2 weeks ago i had never even used autocad to make a 3d object but i have been using autodesk inventor for the past year as i learned it in school. However it doesnt have any kind of export to a format gmax or autocad will accept so i had to learn autocad wich ive found to have a cross between both gmax and inventor. I would definately recomend you use autocad if you can get access to it. I like it so much more than gmax becuase of the 2d sketch tools gmax lacks.

Actually joerg, nothing is solid in gMax <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/22.gif> what you think is a solid is actually just a face (its hollow inside).  However you may need to lattice it to give it the proper look of support.

Simply drop in a bunch of chairs (objects with four legs and two planes), tables (just the tops), and make the face semi transparent. Rubik can then drop in some directional lights to illuminate the chairs, tables and anything else that you care to put into the interior.

As said above... good work Joerg... I'll have to label you up from a groupie!!

Thanks Ralph anyhow rubik has been busy with lighting things up im not 100% sure what all he has done so far but im sure it will be amazing. Once he is done with lighting or whatever else he may be doing i will begin adding things like tables and stuff. So the biggest request i can make is get me some good pics of the base. Ive searched high and low and i cant find some good pics of the darned base and if i cant see what the geometry will look like then i may have to leave the basic shape as is. There is basically only the one picture of the base the good one that tlannister posted. But other than that i cant tell much soemthing looking down on the base woudl be great.

Eww the rainbow colored mod squad below my name is mezmerizing eww awww thanks again ralphael

I'm still not quite happy with the column lighting yet and i'll probably post back with a better version but here's what I have for the lighting so far.  The lights may need minor tweaking after materials are added as well but they are quick changes.

someone say scale? the total height of your model to be true to game scale should be 201.66 blocks or meters high, the easiest way to tell is to just start a line or rectangle at the ground level and stretch it to the highest point and look at the number.... although it has been said to get a proper look to exhagerate the height.. closest and best all around number i found is take the actual height and multiply by 1.2 to give it a bit better and proper look ingame. so actually that 201.66 should be about 242 meters/boxes tall...

anyways no matter how high you have it or whatever scale, it does look breathtaking, keep up the excellent work

well, in looking thru the building you can see the glass tops with metal grids... then looking within are seats on the perimeter with some pipes etc...

    <ahttp://www.exileonmainst.com/images/On_To_Seattle,_July_-_August_2000/Viewing_Seattle,_August_5,_2000/Space_Needle_bottom.JPG>

and again you can see thru in this pic...

The Space Needle looks like it's coming along well. I've actually never seen it myself (well obviously - I've never been overseas) but it looks like a nice building.

The BAT night shot you've shown just recently, though makes it look a bit off-angle for some reason. That may be unavoidable due to the colour (which is probably what gives that illusion).

Oh, and screwball, it's exaggerate, not exhagerate. Just thought I'd point that out. <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/3.gif>

    Joerg,
Having been to the Space Needle, your model is awesome and almost perfect. Is it possible to add a couple of the elevators to it? Maybe one halfway up and another a third? Anyway I will definitely be looking for it to come out.

Ok I tweaked the column lighting a bit and added in the elevator shaft lights and the red light at the top.  As soon as Joerg finishes up the base I can finish up the lighting which will hopefully be later today.

Looks wonderful, I am amazed at the work being done to make SimCity come alive, and this is right up near the top of the list.  Great Work!

Anybody see Conan O'Brian a few nights ago?  They had a mud wrestling match pitting the Space needle against the CN Tower.  Conan is in Canada this week so of course the CN Tower won but it was some funny stuff seeing 2 guys in 10 foot tall foam outfits wrestling around a mud pit.

I can't wait to have this beauty in my city!  Goodbye CN Tower <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/3.gif>  Awesome job guys!  I have nothing else to say, but I know this consumes a lot of time and demands quite some skill...

The new lighting looks great rubik. Any how rubik just got the finished base. Hopefully he will merge that to the gmax file and add lights to the base and then it will come back to me where i will add furniture and stuff within the building and then texture it and hopefully get it rendered by tommorow where it will be turned into a lot and hopefully be on the lex sometime tommorow afternoon.

Well that all depends on how long the render takes. If it takes less than 8 hours then that schedule shoudl work anything more than that though might ruin the schedule. well unless i can render it on a computer that doesnt have simcity installed. I only ask that becuase the computer im using my best one is rigth next to my bed and rendering through the night would be like listening to a vacum cleaner all night. But the building only took abotu 2 hours to render when i firt put it in the game. The poly count shouldnt do more than double. Oh and an earlier post mentioned lightning rods. Where are they?

Hey joerg, can you upload the gMax file for your hospital building? I would really like to use it as a commercial building, but I'd like to change some things first. If you could, that would be great! And of course, I won't take it and change it a bit and then call it my own.23.gif

Hmm i suppose that i could do that a monkeys uncle. But what changes do you want to make becuase i would really rather you just use the plugin manager to do that. But i suppose i could you do realize most of the textures would be gone. Also it would be to big to attatch so you will need to email me or something.

I was just going to take off the part with the 'H' on the top and that other part that sticks out on the left. That way it could be a commercial building. Unless you could do it for me and just upload the edited version on the LEX, that would be good.
