Ok guys give me 5 mins and you will have access to the Space Needle. A huge thanks to Rubik for night lighting not to mention a ton of help in other areas.

Awesome Joerg!  Congrats on that... I can't wait to use it in Streetville!  I'll post a screenshot of the Needle in my city straight away once it's done, so check it <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/2.gif>  What is your next objective?

That is a good question dargor. I dont know what i might make next. I might try and finish the race track. But then again i dont htink it woudl really be right without animation. I would love to have an acctuall american football filed in the game but im not sure if im good enough to attempt that yet. I might jump on the boat and start making things like home depot and walmart. I mean no offense to baco but im not quite satisfied with his walmart yet his other buildings are superb though. Also a very simple thing i might do is a modern water tower. But ofcourse im alwasy up to suggestions and i have yet to go through the requests thread so who knows. Oh and you can be sure i will begin making custom airport terminals eventually its just that the shear size of them would be horrific. Oh and i have already started a model of my highschool which is shaped like a sewer plant. Expect it to be the next lot i release.

If you can take requests... I live close to Rotterdam, Holland... Rotterdam has the biggest buildings in my country, and one special building is this one: http://static.capsi.com/img/photography/2003-02-01-rotterdamsnow/800x600/dscf0308.jpg It is mainly two small silver towers, 151 meters high and a entrance building. I will create this one as soon as I have learned enough... It's not too complicated, since there are no real windows. The building has a smooth, flat surface that reflects the sky like a mirror.

Well dargor the problem with those buildings is that they are simply to simple. And in sc4 you have to model adding as many little deatils into a building as possible in other words try to creat as many tiny shadows as you can. In sc4 to get they buildings to look good they would truly have to reflect their surroundings. If they didnt they would look like 2 giant rectanges with some random skyline on them.

Ummm... The base of the Space needle is a garden without paths. Could you add paths or am I missing something? You might want to add a concrete plaza instead of the gardens. Up to you.

Awesome, Outstanding and any other word that can go along with what you and Rubik accomplished. Kinda want to go and redo my Seattle region again with that.

Oh, here is one request that I think would be kewl. Here in Portland Oregon, they expanded the convention center. The center though has these two tall glass towers that have been there forever. Every year since 9-11 they send a huge spotlight at night up each to represent the twin towers. It would be awesome to have that center with the towers light like that in the game. If you want send me a pm and I will try to get pictures for ya.

Oh my bad Smurfer2 there are acctually paths down there but i was using one of Pegs custom textures and i usually dont include other peoples textures in my lots but they fit so well i forgot about it. I recomend you download his scenic drive kit that should correct the problem.

I think you are right... Dusktrooper said he would like to give it a try though. And I think he can do it. The highest tower is only 151 metres high btw, so they should not be too big in the game (33 metres shorter than the Space Needle). The other tower is 110 metres. For texturing I could suggest some dark grey, very polished... You know the Ajjaganade (SP?) office building?  It's a dark blue rectangle. I truely believe it should be possible to have this building in the game. As soon as I know how to make buildings in Gmax I will try it myself otherwise. It would be so cool... <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/1.gif>

Thanks, that will no doubt fix the problem. Your new building would be perfect for growable and plopable.

WOW!  That kinda lightly reminds me of MinuiteMaid park in Houston.  Why don't you go all the way and make the roof 100% openable?

    SC4, Forevermore!

Currently preoccupied with architecture school...lurking with caution.

Its acctually an arena. Im doing it this way so i dont have to play with every individual seat and i cant only place a couple rows of bleachers if that. Also as for opening the roof well my insporation for the building is the upside down barrel roof so it wont change much the hole might be modified alittle though. Anyways more to come later tonight.

Well im not happy at all with the results other than the night view's ligting. The building just looks horrible in simcity's angle. Ofcourse texture and detail work are not done yet but as is i dont know wether or not it will even be worth finishing . Anyhow your comments and suggestions wll definately be needed here.

joerg, don't give up now. it looks great. i've been itching for something like this for my city for a while. is the problem the angle? or don't you like something about the actual model?

i see what you mean joerg.

the curves of the roof are lost to SC4's cameras.  all the undertruss is lost to the cameras.  the height of the building is definately distorted.

but it isn't worth throwing the project away.  break from the model.  you don't have to make an exact replica.  add something that will show the curve of the roof.  add trusses somewhere else to cast shadows.  the model isn't a failure, it just needs some creative tweaking.  stick with it.  everything you have done so far amazes me.  you are a great modeler.  you can pull through this problem.

    Joerg,

don't give up. I can understand your feelings about the Simcity viewpoint. It seems to reck my buildings too. That's why it's so importand to really consider what needs to go on the roof. If you desing a really complex system of Air con with lots of varying sizes of ducting and loads or big air con units it will transform the roof-scape. Also as a friend of mine always says, 'Life is meaningless without textures'. If you work hard on the textureing of this building, making some special 'transitional' textures, i.e. a texture that darkens around cirtian items, and perhaps has a bit of dirt on, then you will start to break up the large expance of roof that you have.

The other option is to re-design the roof so that you can see much more inside the building.

I think it is just the fact that there is such a massive expance of the same roof texture that makes it look vary plane. I think lots of buildings probably look like that anyway, it's up to us to tell people otherwise.

Keep up the good work Joerg,

    Press on my friend.
