I think -concerning the big mall, its a good idea, a notion of adaptability, flexibility and customizable to individual choice, something wort thinking :thumb: through for effective execution... good luck in 'fleshing out' this big project...

also a note on texture... your really don't need anything exotic a good choice and skillful use of stock textures should work well for this... hopefully using stock textures will make it a simpler chore... also I have a notion of 'flex' name for the mall; that is to make a mall sign pack with a few-several names to chose from perhaps there is a sign person volunteer -to work with, who would make an 'add-on' for this project :read:

good luck

Jack

Stock textures are generally lower quality.

No, no, it's a good thought. You should never use stock textures, the textures should be unique to your BAT. They do provide a great base so that you can edit them in Gimp or Photoshop to work with your particular building, though.

EDIT: on second thought I suppose you can get away with stock textures for very small or generic areas, like a table or something but even then you shouldn't slack on what you're doing with textures...

That SuperTarget looks great! Can't wait to download it! I loved your Walmart. If only I could ask a small favor? Could you do a regular Target as well? All you would have to do is take off maybe the right hand side entrance and put a regular Target logo in the place of the SuperTarget one. Could even keep the same building as current regular Target's are not much smaller than SuperTarget's.

Thanks for all you do!

Well, Targets have been renovating like crazy, and there are several distinct styles. I'd personally like to see an older design.

For example, I saw this lovely example in Ft. Worth in 2010 (it closed about five years ago based on Google Earth, but I found it on Bing when it was still open)

Screen%20shot%202011-05-09%20at%207.12.41%20PM.png

Screen%20shot%202011-05-09%20at%207.13.03%20PM.png

This was definitely from the "old" era of Target. Remember the red/yellow/blue/green neon and in-store signage (before it became just red and white)? Remember "Food Avenue"? Remember when the whole store smelled like popcorn? Good times, good times. These types of stores are rapidly disappearing. This specimen had too small a footprint, so it got the axe.

They still all smell like popcorn. and coffee. cornffee...the eau de tar-jay. But no really, I think the target bat on the STEX by joerg represents that older format if you need something like that. It needs some lot love though.

I'm looking forward to this mall. This might be too much work, so ignore it if it is, but one thing you could do at the lotting stage is have a version of each of the buildings where they are just by themselves with no parking. Then the user could put it in a more confined location and surround it with their own parking garages from the STEX. Its going to be really really big after all, and not everyone has space for it and its parking. Personally, I'll probably use it as a centerpiece of a suburban business district, plop a few of Simgoober's office buildings around it and run a light rail stop by the front entrance.

joerg's Target looks pretty large (9 tiles) which plagued a lot of early BATs (including the Auchan -not mine- currently up). Interestingly, the Auchan I'm building WAS a Target, back in the day when they had a separately owned grocery store attached (not integrated) to it.

I didn't dig up a Target with the red/green/blue stripes, a 1995-1998 model.

I think you'd be better off with self illuminating nightmaps to fake the night scene, at the moment the night scene looks like the old gmax nitelights..other than that it's looking nice if not a bit sterile. Keep it up bro

Nightlights are fine imo...I think Target is roughly an 8am-10pm kind of store so I don't think crazy spectacular darknite is in order (nobody said it was, but yeah). Though, some omnis would look better, they always do..

Also, Target does have entrance and exit signs, they're on the doors and wouldn't be really visible but you could add that little detail. Personally I don't care, but it's your BAT so do what you wish.

One thing though, I remember the Target sign having the 'SUPER' bit in green, with a swoosh under it, like so...

actually never mind, what you're doing is fine since it seems to vary between stores. Textures look fine to be honest, this will look great in my new suburbs. Great job!

yeah it looks fine, glad to see it on the STEX.

The parking lot details take the cake. Someone needs to make Mayor Mode ploppable runaway shopping buggies, so I can scatter some in my creeks, bus stops, and ghetto housing complexes near your Target and Walmart BATs, haha.

Not trying to Hijack the thread or anything of the sort, but I really love this Super Target of yours! Even if it seemed 'sterile' to some before, I think the lotting work really makes it an excellent piece..

Wow, the lotting DID do a lot. I am impressed. :golly: I don't know, with new-looking Walmarts and Targets, both with grocery departments, I would kind of like to see a Super Kmart Center. If you have time. Now my Sims have THREE options on where to get general merchandise and food in one location! Mwa ha ha! Seriously, though, in many cases, Super Kmarts are better than the other two. More general merchandise items made in America (on a 2009 visit, at least), and there's an in-house butcher (rather than pre-packaged meat). Plus, with a dwindling number in the states (17, I think, instead of the 300+ that were), it could at least be immortalized in SimCity.

I think it will be a cool Idea for Heblem start a Suburban Bating Team, (SBT) :D If you do this Heblem I will automatically Join the Team, beacause you should not be the only one bating Suburban building. Heblem post here or PM, and let me know what you think about creating a Suburban Bating Team. :D

I am referring to Super Kmarts, of course, there's still enough regular Kmarts to go around...for now.
