Goin' to Paris!

Artwork courtesy of Monte Cristo games

Hey guys

I've just received an invitation from the folks at Monte Cristo Games to come visit their offices in Paris later this month. I'll have the opportunity to speak directly to the developers as well as get a hands-on preview of Cities XL. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to the trip, to meet with Dasilva and his team, and to get a first-hand experience of how the game is coming along and to bring back my impressions to you guys.

Thank you, Dasilva, and your team at Monte Cristo for the trip; I'm looking forward to it!

So, community, if there are any pressing questions, issues or concerns or just well-wishes that you'd like me to personally deliver to the Monte Cristo team, let me know...

Cheers!

Congrats, dirk! I hope your trip is both pleasurable and productive.

I recommend Bocca di Lupo, Pizza Politano, or Maceo. Then ice cream at Berthillon!

Let no one yield, we're on the field where deeds eclipse the sun; where the brave are told on a thread of gold, the tapestry is spun. As they speak of dreams, their armor gleams, this calm before the storm... Where all can see their destiny, the bishop takes the pawn.

Wow, that's awesome! Monte Cristo even made that pic for you?

Have fun! I don't have any questions right now, but if I think of any I'll be sure to post them here!

Wow, dirk, looking forward to read the interview! 4.gif

As a member of CitiesXL.com forums, I can tell you the game is definitely rocking and people here can't wait to give it a try. I would really like to know what Monte Cristo decided about region play and custom content. We didn't get any clues or official answers about regions at this time (we had several topics since July) and Philippe mentioned of a custom content community after the game is released, but I still have some doubts.

Also, some members here are expecting news about a demo or beta.

I hope we'll get some straightforward answers. 2.gif

Cheers!

Congratulations dirk, what a fantastic opportunity! After all this site has done for the SC4 community (and you being the one to give it the foundation to grow) I don't think we could think of anyone better!

I was thinking about some of the questions Gabry85 brought up, but otherwise I can't think of anything that I'm dying to know.

Best of luck, and have fun,

-Todd

I think that it is great and reassuring that this game developer is soliciting feedback from the community like this.

Bon Voyage!

Well as the leader of the biggest site for the bigges city builders then they couldn't have invited anyone better than you.

Have fun in France.

Ask them when the actual release date is or at least a month i'm sick of hearing quarters.

Good Luck

AHHH thats so cool! Congrats to you, this is a wonderful oppertunity.

I have a lot of questions about the game but the big one is will there be custom content and help with it from the game or something along those lines.

I like how SC4 used a good FREE program and there rendering tool.

So I hope there will be custom content because it extends the games life by a LONG time.

have fun and goodluck! 9.gif

Ditto Un1. face-icon-small-tongue.gif Dirk, good luck and I wish you well for your trip to Paris. Can you ask them one question? 'Will the STEX be used for Cities XL custom content as well?' So far, I'm not sure if we can do that, concerning the plan that all modding goes through them... Update please?

Thanks Dirk. face-icon-small-smile.gif

This question is for Dirk:

Will there be a separate site for CXL?

Congrats dirk! I'll be looking forward to hearing from you when you return. Enjoy your time in Paris my friend!

The only question I really have is about custom content. Will Monte Cristo embrace custom content like Maxis did? SC4 has lasted as long as it has because of the custom content, I even still play it from time to time. It is an absolutely addicting game. As for Cities XL; it looks awesome so far, I just need confirmation on the ability to develop custom content. 4.gif

Hey Dirk make sure you have fun in the City of Lights!!! BTW I do have a honest question about how the game... I am wondering if there is any plans for us who love to recreate nature in the game? To further expand on it I mean like making waterfalls or streams with all the details and will there be any weather effects?

Yes, that banner is very sick; I love it. It makes me so excited there there is FINALLY another city builder game coming out. One that you can actually compare to Simcity 4.

Oh...Monte Cristo was at the Banner Convention in Podunk as well?  41.gif  Wow, what did they think of the Microdome...and the Buranski Brothers??  (You read my report of your other trip...right?  This one should be a little more impressive.)  Which brings me to my question--will there be expanded pyrotechnics in CXL3.gif  What about riots--there will be riots, won't there?  18.gif

Seriously 48.gif, the fact that you would have such an opportunity says a lot about the site and the way that it's carried on.  I think my question would have to do with the options of the game.  I wonder how it will lend itself to customization.  I, too, have the most interest in the rural/nature aspect, terrain options, flora, etc., as well as how the game will handle custom models and lots.  The more options and realism there are, the more oppotunity there is to express creativity, and that's what keeps me playing.  Have fun in Paris!

Bye for now.
