Hello. I'm sure that there is a thread for this, but I had previously used SC4 Mapper with XP, but now after I got the new Vista computer, I cannot install Mapper or Terraformer. Could someone please send me a link on how to do this or please give me some instructions.

Thanks in Advance!!

    I'm having the same problem.

Apparently the mapper won't work with most vista computers because of some issues with the new OS.

I think there's a DLL or directx runtime you have to download (have a look at SC4D)

Like I said, SC4mapper doesn't use directX or the DLL that you're thinking of. It's the simplified interface for SC4Terraformer which DOES use DirectX.

I know very little about the Mapper, but I think Vandy does, and according to him you need MSVCP71.DLL, which I believe is a DirectX 9 file.

SC4Mapper  does require MSVCP71.DLL   Go here to see for yourself.   And Vandy does know what he's talking about, he's a former member of NHP when the program was created by wouanagaine.

    Hello, All.

To date, the best information I can give people having problems with SC4Terraformer and SC4Mapper running under Microsoft Vista is as follows:

    1)  MOST IMPORTANT!!  Make sure you have read through the entire SC4Terraformer  and SC4Mapper ReadMe files.

    2)  For SC4Terraformer, make sure you have the correct version of DirectX installed.  It MUST BE version 9.0c.

    3)  You may also need MSVCP71.DLL for SC4Terraformer.  You MUST have it for SC4Mapper.

    4)  Make sure your Microsoft .NET files are up-to-date.

    5)  There is the possibility that you may be a "victim" of a unicode coding issue with SC4Terraformer and SC4Mapper working under Microsoft Vista.  I don't have details on this issue other than wouanagaine has commented that to fix it will require a rewrite of the SC4Terraformer applications.  Please be aware that he no longer has his source files.  They were on his laptop that was stolen.

Beyond the above suggestions, I am at a loss as to what else to have you try.

I am in the process of writing an OmniMaps article to collect all information on this problem in one place in order for people to refer to it when these problems occur.  Keep an eye on the OmniMaps - Mapping and Terraforming Information section of the Omnibus for when the article is released.

    Good luck.

    Regards,

    Vandy

    Thanks,

Vandy, I take it you mean the main folder and not creating a sub-folder. Thanks! Dick

Update: I installed directx 9 and the MSVCR71.dll into the c:\windows\system32 folder but the program still will not load up, just the brief splash screen.

I still can not get it to run. I believe I've done all that has been suggested so far. Any additional ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Ok, first of all, thanks for Vandy being so helpful for all these people who one after other asks solutions for their problems that can be done by updating the DirectX and reading the readme.

I wonder if anyone could give me some help, as I have the terraformer on my Vista laptop and the Terraformer used to run on it. Now I have the problem that the program starts properly and it asks for the region to be worked on. The program loads the region, but the main 3D-view window doesn't show up. All that pops up is the tool adjustment window and the minimap window. The thing is that Terraformer used to run on the laptop perfectly until yesterday.

I think that the problem might be with the programs that simultaneously use DirectX. Does anyone know how I can find out which running programs are using DirectX?

And I have read the readme and tried to do everything that is mentioned on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Edit:

Ok, I managed to figure out this myself. The problem was with the config.ini file that had the x and y values of the main window -32000 for some reason. Changed those and now the window shows up again, yay! : D

I have the same problem too. When I run sc4Terraformer, a popup window appears and saying:

    " DirectX can't be loaded

Maybe there is another application that use DirectX

    ..."

    and I have Directx 10

If you have Vista, you likely do not have the required DirectX 9 files. Go to the Microsoft site to download and install the latest version.
