The Ultimate Challenge: International McDonald’s Invitational

On my recent trip to Arizona, I saw something I had never seen before. I have been to 17 countries and never seen this variant before. I spoke with others who have been to other countries… over forty in all. And this is the only instance of such a thing we know of ever happening. So, I will show you (of course!) and then issue the ultimate Simtropolis challenge to you.

    mcd1.jpg

From a distance, you notice nothing different… or do you?

    mcd2.jpg

Typical suburban commercial area… or is it

    mcd3.jpg

Yep, this looks like a pretty typical McDonald’s.

So, where does the challenge come in? In Sedona, Arizona we saw a McDonald’s unlike any other. When you consider how many different McDonald’s emporia I have seen over the years over three continents (plus many more seen by the people I polled… covering all 6 inhabited continents), no one had ever seen something like this. This particular restaurant was startling not for its menu (the same as you get everywhere) but for the décor. This is the only instance I have ever heard of when the venerable Golden Arches are not golden. Yes, that’s right, NOT golden! Here’s the evidence:

    mcd5.jpg

    Notice anything different?

    mcd4.jpg

Look closer… the trademark “M” is not yellow… it is turquoise!

No one I know has ever seen a non-golden “M” at one of their places. So, I present it to you as a challenge. I challenge anyone out there who has seen a non-golden arched McDonald’s to post a picture of it. I have to think this is not unique on earth, but it has to be rare. So, you are challenged to one of the challenges below:

    1) Your picture of an unorthodox “M” McDonald’s (different color, different style, etc.)

    2) Or, your picture of a McDonald’s you have seen you think is interesting. (I have seen converted W2W buildings, converted old buildings, and all sorts of interesting ones. Do you have an interesting one near you?)

So now, the Simtropolis International McDonald’s Invitational begins!

Here's a W2W McDonald's in Amsterdam, The Netherlands with a typical downtown Amsterdam storefront. The Natural Health Company is next door :P

Link goes to Panoramio page with pic (not mine) and also maps to show location.

Never seen anything like that before... all the McDonald's around where I live are all typical looking.

There was a McDonald's book I once checked out from a library that had a McDonald's in a converted Southern-style plantation house. I'd like to see it again...

According to McDonald's the only colors they have are yellow, and teal (The arizona one), the white one is actually teal, when at night, or when the light is turned on

    Leech10 Those look a bit… treacherous.

Hester She has been busy with war planning and such. The islands are not built up much due to the blockade.

    Hester LOL… that’s a good island to duplicate :D

Leech10 There’s no telling what exciting fossils may be unearthed.

    PhatHead Thirty three thunderous thanks!

Hester Always glad to have him come by!

    nathanthemayor Yep! All together now…

    Hester Come sing with us!

RiCHBoyZ Awesome! A true Schulmania paradise. Welcome to Schulmania.

Leech10 Have you got a cat button in your car?

    Hester Yep!

9988 That would be a great building to have!

    nathanthemayor That’s a cool one!

Unassigned Nice! I have been to one in Amsterdam… been a few years back.

Leech10 I was quite surprised by it. The KFC and Taco Bell were off color too but somehow that was less startling than this one.

LivingInThePast Really? A McDonald’s book? Interesting. I’ll bet they have all sorts of stores.

Kusajika Yachiru I would be curious to see it if you have pics.

jim 546 Cool! A hybrid, with one white trimmed in yellow and one yellow.

Mastof Those are some cool McD’s. And welcome to Schulmania.

The McD’s nearest me (the main road 2 mi/3 km from here has 3 McDonald’s in a 4 mi/6 km stretch. There will be no chicken nugget shortage in my area.) Anywho, all 3 are pretty standard ones. And of course all with yellow M’s.

Coming up, I have an actual update and by request, more Arizona pictures coming up too. Check back soon!

@Schulmanator: It was a series of books on different companies. Light reading, lots of pictures. I last saw it in 7th Grade, but there's a story that goes along with it that I don't wish to repeat. >.<

    Showing Off

Before I get to other business, a few folks asked me to show off a few more pictures of my trip to Arizona. So, a representative sampling of the journey will be shown below. With of course some SC4 stuff in it to stay legit. Let the games begin!

    2a.jpg

First, I must leave my palatial estate to meet my throng of followers down at Simtropolis Park. Why not come along for the ride?

    v9.jpg

Plenty of available parking today… I wonder who will be coming by to see the pictures.

    v12.jpg

I am setting up at one of the market stalls to do my slideshow. Come on over!

    bbb7.jpg

    I am starting now!

    az21.jpg

Arizona Hwy 89A through the Oak Creek Canyon… it is even windier than the picture indicates… and those are switchbacks, not curlicues.

    az22.jpg

A view of the intrepid Grand Canyon

    az23.jpg

Another view of the Grand Canyon… several miles further down the road.

    az24.jpg

You guessed it… the Grand Canyon!

    az25.jpg

    It sure is big!

    az26.jpg

The Holy Grail of license plates! For those who enjoy trying to get all 50 states in a road trip, this is the hardest of them all. You would think Alaska and Hawaii, but I have seen double digits of those in the past year alone. It has been so long since I have seen a ND I forgot what they looked like. And, Craig, I vicariously add you to this trip so you can check it off on your list!

    az27.jpg

    Sunset at the canyon…

    az28.jpg

Meteor Crater, not far off of I-40 between Flagstaff and Winslow, Arizona.

    az29.jpg

Monument Valley, on the Navajo Reservation. Lots of cool rock formations like this one…

    az30.jpg

    And these!

    az31.jpg

A tumbleweed! I think we were too amused over these. Got to see some actually tumbling…

    az32.jpg

Treasure this one… it was a long and dusty ride out to Four Corners… the only such place in the US. Only one place can beat it:

    Five_corners.png

    az33.jpg

Now here’s a rare treat… a bald eagle sitting on its nest. How often do you see this? This was long the Verde Canyon Railroad line.

    az34.jpg

The coolest cacti ever. I think I was overly amused by these guys too. I love how they just hold their arms up like they’re in a bank robbery.

    bbb2.jpg

That’s the end of the show… hope you enjoyed it. And now, back to the parking lot.

    i02.jpg

And now back to the secret factory where I make all of the Schulmania updates… see ya soon!

You see plenty of Hawaii plates because of the military

BTW, you can tell if a car has ever been to Hawaii even if it's got new plates because HI has these registration stickers you put on your bumper. It's white and has a green highway cloverleaf shape on it To me the rarest bird are DC plates. DC is not a car friendly city and despite its population being similar to other low population states, I bet it, in the future anyway, will have relatively few registered vehicles.

Plus the "taxation without representation" line they have on them is just awesome. I love how a license plate can be a form of protest against something hideous to this day(DC should be a state)

    LivingInThePast

Seventh grade reading… I don’t remember those ancient days well. Back then, I

had to chisel my homework into stone tablets… and walked uphill in the snow to

AND from home from school. Ahhh… the good ol’ days!

nathanthemayor I went by Slide Rock but did not

go. We were taking the long and windy way to the Grand Canyon. It was a bit

brisk with the stiff wind to try the water out as well. But perhaps next time

    :D

    Kusajika

    Yachiru I sure did! :D

The factory has an update ready to post on the top of the next page.

Hester My profound statement as I

first beheld the canyon…” Holy crap, this thing’s HUGE!” To which my brother

replied “Duh… that’s why it’s the GRAND Canyon”.

Mastof Indeed… having that land in

your backyard would be quite a mess!

kakado_to_save It was a “grand” time! The weather

was great and we went everywhere we wanted to go and had an awesome time.

Benedict Woohoo! It has been a while for me…

hamsterTK Long time no see! Come to think of it,

I don’t see many DC plates either. But ND is virtually impossible. I was

beginning to wonder if they had cars!

Craig That should do it! In the time I have

been looking for a ND I have run across a few Guams, multiple AK and HI, half

of Canada’s provinces or more, and even a Haiti. And now, finally, the last

piece of the puzzle. So, now to start fresh again. The game is afoot!

PS: This "erase formatting" button messes up stuff...

So, boys and girls, dying for the next update? It is

coming up on the next page. Brace yourselves!

This set of replies brought to you by our newest sponsor,…
