Similar Buildings

Hello, I have been playing for a while, but now I am creating an agriculturally / mass transit town.  Anyway, I currently have about 12,000 folks in my town in a relatively dense area, however, all the buildings are exactly the same (Maxis Apartments -- See Below).   I have changed the density from medium to high within a few blocks and bulldozed the block, but the same buildings keep popping up.  Any suggestions?

Thanks,

and be sure to check out my landscape architecture & urban design blog...

You could get more custom buildings.

It's something I've noticed too, that similar buildings seem to construct at the same time. I have no idea how to stop it though 15.gif

i think it has to do with land value, schools, hospitals, desireability and i think crime. if all are high or good then higher worth buildings will appear.

Your sistuation isnt that bad. The smaller repeating buildings arent that bad in huge numbers; it makes it seem like urban wasteland. When bigger buildings repeat, though, it does look bad. You really do seem experienced with urban planning.

Change the building set that you're using, or select "Build all at once"

asteconn has the answer. You could also try mixing things up, mix in commercial with residential so the monotony is broken. Or different lot sizes, so apartments form on corners while mid blocks remain a lower density. just a thought to add a bit more realisim

Yea, it's nothing to worry about. I got similar situations and as your city develops game will most probably change and build more diversely buildings. And you can help that by zoning different size zones, turn on all building stilles at once and add custom buildings.

P.S. I'm also finishing my architecture studies and love the game! 4.gif

Control+Alt+Shift+Click on the god mode button. But don't use the terraforming tools if you don't want your city to auto-demolish itself...

Actually, it's not that i would type a cheat to get the God tools, i already downloaded mod that gave  me God terrain editing tools in Mayor mode.

But i tried placing trees with God mode tool over buildings and it seems that it forces development, especially if low wealth building is on the parcel.

    Did you folks notice that?

    Very interesting...  37.gif

Keep dewmolishing the buildings and let them re-build. That shouldwork after demolishing a few times. That same building repeats in my cities and when I demilish the building a few times it changes.

It is perfectly ok for it the same building to grow. If you strive for realism i suggest go and downloading multiple amounts of buildings to level off the skyline.

I actually like that about the game because it makes it look more like it is built in subdivisions. It is a bit repetitive, though. You might try turning all building styles on at once. By default, they rotate every five years.

    Hope this helps. -blakesterville.

That happens to me alot, even when I have the "all styles at once" on, I just demolish and demolish until something different grows or just plop.
