Fresh Prince, actually, no, you won't this time.  The Essentials is built into the main April NAM download.  I believe it was updated mainly so people won't be downloading outdated files.

Yes, exactly. And if you don't want to use the NAM (for whatever reason), but the additional bridges, for instance, you can just download the NAM Essentials, install the Bridge Controller, and pick from the additional bridges that are available.

I don't get why you didn't keep everything in one installer...made things a lot simpler...

The bridges are nice, I'll check the details on them. I checked most except the one made by DT. I looked at the picture...looks like a lot of detail...3.gif

That is a question we do get asked a fair amount.  The reason why is so that we can release new/updated components individually sooner, rather than "stockpiling" enough stuff to warrant putting together another giant release.

Admittedly, we haven't entirely taken advantage of the system yet, but hopefully, we will soon.

With this release, though, you don't have to worry--pretty much the entire NAM core was updated, so this is more of a "traditional" release in that sense.

I deleted the old version and tried to download the new one and I get the following message:

You have entered invalid data !

The following seems incorrect ...

Download Quota for this lot has been exceeded ...

Any suggestions?

I think the reason for this is because in the last 6 months instead of having small things added here and there everyone on the team has really come together and produced so much new stuff at a much faster rate than we have ever seen.  This really is an awesome time to be a part of the NAM Team, and to see the stuff in developement its amazing sometimes.

Well, you should also keep in mind that one installer that contains "everything" (NAM, SAM, RHW, HSRP, bridges,...) would be as large as 30 MB or even more. A massive file like this is virtually impossible to maintain, and with the current pace of development, it will become outdated in no time.

Is this new NAM compatible with existing cities (using the old NAM)?

Now that I've installed the new NAM, I'm seeing crashes to desktop of Simcity. It's happened with 2 different cities, so far. Until I installed the new NAM, this never happened.

bones1, it's completely compatible with existing cities using previous versions.  It's possible there may be a conflict in your Plugins.  Also, have you been trying to use any sort of Transit-Enabled Lots in those cities?

Did you manage to sort this?  That error comes up when you have downloaded the file already that day.  Are you using a download manager?  If so that might be causing the problem.

I use a very limited amount of mods and BATs, the same ones I've been using trouble-free for over a year. NAM is the only one I changed.

No, it's not the TEL bug. I'm not using any of those, nor was the crash due to any user-action. It just crashes at a specfic date, the same thing every time. I can bulldoze all the buildings, and then the city will grow back and avoid the crash. But when it reaches a certain point, the crash happens again.

I suspect it has something to do with route-finding. It started occuring after I bulldozed most of my commercial buildings, and forced them to grow back as commercial service. Maybe that has nothing to do with NAM, or it may have been a trigger used to find new routes that used some NAM structure unused previously.

The only thing I didn't try was to bulldoze all my traffic system (roads, rails, transit stops). That's just too time-consuming.

I'm starting a new city from scratch, and see if I run into it.

This has nothing to do with the route finding.  Thousands upon thousands of people have installed new Pathfinding Engines since the introduction of the first NAM, hence look at the almost 290,000 downloads of the NAM in 4 years.  If there was an issue with swapping in and out Pathfinding Engines it would have been found in those 290,000 downloads.  And people have always re-zoned, bulldozed areas, etc including the 3 months that the new Pathfinders were released separately, with not a single account for a CTD.  Nothing in the new ones is different from what was done in the past, they were just simply designed to be mathematically balanced to the original game again.

But, I cannot tell you what your problem is, because simply, you havent really given much information to troubleshoot on.  Like, what exactly are you doing when the game CTDs?

Is it when you bulldoze a lot?

Were you sitting there watching the game not doing a thing? (probably a lot was growing)

Did it happen when a lot was growing?  What lot was it?  (this would be your closest bet to a bad lot, maybe its corrupt file in your plugins)

CTDs in NAM are caused by the Puzzle Piece over TE Lot bug.  We have done alot of work lately and have alot of testing hours, noone has experienced a CTD out of the ordinary.  You are so far the only one who has reported this issue, which leads me to believe it is isolated to your plugins.  Generally meaning you have something in your plugins that is conflicting with something else.

Many CTDs can be attributed to faulty modding in lots, files not being included in lot downloads, or maybe a corrupt file in a lot that has lost required information for the lot to function.

Yes, just sitting there watching the game. Happens at the same point, every time I reload the city. Most likely, it is when a lot is growing. Like I said, it started happening after I bulldozed all the commercial in my city, and let it regrow. It took a few years for it to happen after that.

The only BAT lot I have installed is Simgoober's rural hospital and his mall, and I didn't place those in that city (nor are they growable; I removed the growable parts of the mall at least a year ago, well before I started this region). Most of the other stuff in my plugins, BAT-related, are just the mega prop packs needed by Simgoober's BATs. None of this stuff I have changed in over a year.

That's possible, but I think it's unlikely. Like I said, I haven't changed anything else in my plugin folder in a long time.

It's possible my city just got into some kind of repeatable bug that's not related to NAM. However, I've restarted the city from scratch, in the hope that if there is something related to the upgrade of NAM, it won't occur if I don't switch NAMs in the middle of a region.

I'm not criticizing NAM. I think it's the best mod ever created for Simcity. I'm just wondering if it is backwards compatible, because the coincidence of my problem starting after I installed the new NAM was rather startling. It could just be a coincidence, though.

Yes NAM is backwards compatible.  New updates add things and make fixes.  Generally if there is a problem with a certain component in the NAM it will CTD when entering the city if it was placed and then the component was broken while "updating".  Or it will CTD when plopping or dragging the component.  This is when things change and it is checking the components and will not find what it needs.

Does the game crash when you push the "play" button?  If so, there may be and existing Transit Station that has either been modified or removed.  I found this bug when testing a mod for TE Stations.

No, it doesn't seem related to pressing play. It will happen at a fixed date, probably the result of the game engine developing a building.

I looked at this more, and I now don't think it's related to NAM. I found a couple of lots I missed when I bulldozed, however, they don't show up in the census graph or the budget (which show zero). They're not abandoned, either. Wierd. They're just regular Maxis lots. I think my game got screwed up by something, but I don't know what that is. Perhaps I messed something up when I deleted the old NAM, or maybe my memory chip got hit my a stray cosmic ray. 22.gif

Oh well, I've started a new city, and so far no problems at all.

I'm stuck with him. The link provided on the first post just brings me to a page telling me about NAM, but I can't seem to locate the download link/button.

EDIT: Nevermind, I figured it out. I wasn't aware you were supposed to be registered as a member at the lot exchange before downloading.
