Wow, you need a mosaic to view all those towers, in their massiveness. Great highway updates and the mosaic towers look awesome!

ky72x:  Ya, I finally got the night lighting to work!  The sidewalk mod is something new too, I like it!

-First off I must say thanks a lot for your comments!  They mean a lot!

-Hopefully you got my PM about the building you were asking.  (I think its on the SC4 website as an additional landmark).

-Thanks for the compliments on my infrastructure and my fist mosaic!  I am glad that you are enjoying this City Journal!

un1:  Ya, lol!  Thanks for the mosaic compliment!  (I still haven't got the hang of it though 3.gif)

-If you are having problems with congestion even with a RHW-4, I suggest widening it further to a RHW-6 or construct another artery to handle some of the traffic.  That's my suggestion!

tahill79:  Thanks a lot for your comments!

GlobalHaze:  Thanks!  The red-tiled roads are not roads at all!  They are the sidewalks now!

-Before this update, I was cleaning my plugins folder.  I guess I had this mod installed but another file was overriding it.  Same goes for the night lighting mod.  That is why you haven't seen this kind of texture before.  3.gif

Smarty218:  Hey, thanks a lot!  Glad you like the night lighting!

-LOL!  Its okay if you miss a few updates 3.gif.  I won't take them down so you can view them at your pleasure, whenever or however you want!

xmike1991:  Thanks!  Glad you like the RHW and the mosaic!

edmonton_stinks:  Ya, I know!  Glad you enjoyed this update!

anarchy0029:  Wow, how long did that take you?  Did you do it all at once?

-Thanks for the comment too!  I am glad you have enjoyed it!

    View/Reply Feedback:

A great thank you to everyone who commented and viewed my City Journal!  I just noticed that this City Journal has a high view count compared with the replies.  That makes for a very high ratio between views and comments, so if you are viewing, don't be shy to comment!  I love replying to your replies!

Currently there are 8404 views and 481 replies at the time of this update.

This makes the ratio about 17.5:1This means for every 1 comment, roughly another 17-18 people are viewing and not commenting.  I love to hear what you have to say about this CJ!

Interesting stats, eh?  Anyways, lets get to the update...

    Update time!

This update will focus on what's happing in the existing city.  Several new areas have been developed, and many civic upgrades are underway.

This is more of a visual update than a wordy one, so lets get to the pictures!

    Picture Information:

    NOTICE:  Please Read!

Before I post some pictures of my cities, please know that I strive for the best quality of my images possible.  Every picture from here on-in is not photoshopped in any way, and is taken directly from the game to show you exactly what I see in the game.  The only editing done is converting the .PNG file to .JPEG.

***IMPORTANT***    Also, please know that my pictures are COMPRESSED, and are NOT RESIZED! When you resize a picture, a ton of the image's quality is lost, and is shrunk to comply with ST's picture size limits.  Compressing the image retains the quality, but looks terrible when squeezed to comply with site limits.

But, I have found a loophole in this problem.  Each compressed picture displayed will be linked to the actual uncompressed, true image.  All you have to do to view the image in its FULL RESOLUTION (1920x1200) is to simply click on the compressed image displayed in this city journal (800x500).  The reason that the images are not 800x600 is because I present my pictures in widescreen (16:10 aspect ratio), making the image much more appealing for the human eye's stereoscopic vision.

If you have any questions or comments about how I display my images, feel free to post a reply.

Updated as of March 28th, 2008: All images hereon in are in a higher resolution! (1920x1200 instead of 1440x900).  Make you sure you click on 800x500 photos in the CJ to see them in excellent quality!

A rich, dense part of town.  I think the new red brick sidewalks really adds to this picture!

    https://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii281/haljackey/TerranSettlement-Dec11101208748593.jpg

You can barely see the curved avenue intersection anymore due to the amount of highrises in the area!

    https://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii281/haljackey/TerranSettlement-Dec16101208748638.jpg

High-mast lighting has now been installed along the RHW to improve safety during the night.  This stretch is currently handling a lot more traffic than I anticipated!

-Also shown here is the current demand bars for the city.  I guess I better get zoning more areas while it is high!

    https://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii281/haljackey/TerranSettlement-Feb6111208749113.jpg

So I did!  Here is a new area in the city zoned and all ready to develop!

-Note the closeness of the highways as well.  They are close in this area of town in order to provide access across the river and to neighbouring cities.

    https://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii281/haljackey/TerranSettlement-Feb17111208750619.jpg

This interchange was upgraded to have access in all directions.  This should really help traffic flow in the area.

    https://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii281/haljackey/TerranSettlement-Mar28111208751051.jpg

Compare that to the interchange that laid there before:

    https://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii281/haljackey/TerranSettlement-Nov28091208629754.jpg

Anyways, thats it for now.  A new update is coming your way soon!

    Best,

    -Haljackey

Thanks for the PM's, I did find the building I was looking for. 9.gif

Close-ups are really nice, for they portray the traffic and city life perfectly. The first two shots do an excellent job of that! As for the new developments, I would recommend that you leave at least a one-tile gap between the residential zones and the railroad. Anything, from a street, parking lots, fences, or even parks separating the rail from the apartments would look better than having it right in their backyard.

But that's just one small thing among many great things. I really like the main avenue/one-way road that cuts through the new area. The plazas and parks placed in between the roads really enhance the urban aura even further. Plus, the raised avenue pieces in the last couple shots look pretty swell. All in all, good job on another equally good update. 9.gif

kj3400:  I like greenspace.  In a dense city, it is really needed!

Patricius Maximus:  Thanks!  Glad you like the greenspace and interchanges!

Benedict:  Thanks!  Glad you liked it!

un1:  Thanks a lot!  Good to hear its working for ya!

-And yes a RHW-10 is in the works.  More info can be found in the RHW thread (link in my signature.)

-Like all NAM components, there is no release date.

    Smarty218:  Thanks for your comments!

-And yes, I plopped those trees.  (the ones that look like a forest anyways)

    dfnva:  Thanks for your comments!

ky72x:  That sounds good.  Glad you found what you were looking for!  9.gif

-Thanks for all the comments!  They are really appreciated!

-About the 1 tile gap between rail/zones:  most of the time I do leave a gap, but in this circumstance the road is very close to the curving rails.  I decided to make an exception here because of the high land value near the park.  I am assuming that high rise apartments will grow here.  If it were houses then I would include a wall or something to separate them from the rails.

    mightygoose:  Glad you enjoyed them!

    -Unique style?  I didn't know I was that out-of the ordinary! 3.gif

    Update time!

This update is similar to the last.  It will feature several civic developments that are occurring throughout the city and beyond.

Again, its more of a visual one, not too much explaining to do.  Have a look!

    Pictures:

Click on the Images to view them in Full Resolution (1920x1200)!  (Please see my PICTURE INFORMATION on my first post on this page if you are new here.  Thanks!)

Looking north from the new elevated avenue interchange/intersection from the last update.

-The road used to narrow to two lanes at this point, but has been upgraded to a highway with full interchanges due to increasing usage of the route as the area continues to develop.

    https://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii281/haljackey/TerranSettlement-Sep151112088388702.jpg

A zoom out of the area during the evening.  This new part of town is developing nicely!

    https://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii281/haljackey/TerranSettlement-Jan29131208841326.jpg

The riverfront skyline all lit up!

    https://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii281/haljackey/TerranSettlement-Jan28131208841263.jpg

As the industrial area gets bigger and busier, more and more improvements are being made to the area.  Take this brand new intersection for an example:

    https://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii281/haljackey/TerranSettlement-Jul16121208840698.jpg

As development spreads across the river, the city has decided to upgrade this existing avenue into a sunken highway.  This new highway will terminate at the T-Bone interchange you see at the right.

    https://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii281/haljackey/TerranSettlement-Feb19131208841664.jpg

Here is the new sunken highway, partially complete.  The intersections will stay for now until there is need for them to upgrade to interchanges.

-Note the steep slope for the avenue intersection.

    https://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii281/haljackey/TerranSettlement-Feb231312088420362.jpg

The current sunken portion terminates east of this RHW.  However, the land has been graded to extend the highway below the RHW via a tunnel connection.

    https://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii281/haljackey/TerranSettlement-Feb24131208842302.jpg

Here we see the grading continue westward.  The highway you see here is elevated to pass over the sunken trench.

-In the future, a full stack interchange will be constructed in this area.  But for now, it is just a simple overpass.

    https://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii281/haljackey/TerranSettlement-Feb23131208842275.jpg

A series of tunnels will allow the sunken highway to pass under this divided RHW segment and bullet train line:

    https://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii281/haljackey/TerranSettlement-Mar26131208842431.jpg

City Stats.  Showing current population and the traffic graph.

-Current population is just shy of 325,000 residents.

    https://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii281/haljackey/TerranSettlement-Nov28121208841015.jpg

Well that does it for now.  I hope you enjoyed the update!

The next update will feature the new texture for the RHW network!  A teaser has been posted in the "Show Us Your Interchanges!"  Thread.  (Link in my signature)

    Best,

    -Haljackey

Great update... Love the "under construction" sunken highway. That gives me great ideas for Interior's sunken Downtown Project.

Edit: I don't like the texture much, I don't like stuff when I first see stuff...

    I may gain on it...

yeah glad you were open to my ideas in chat, eveyone has different ideas of what looks best in the game, you really do have a knack for creating awesome interchanges with the new NAM additions, you've got some great ideas that will only continue to be refined, your cj has a bright future no doubt

Actually, I now think that the residential development next to the railroad looks fine, with the brand-new building there. The space between the rail and tower is goo, and looks much better than something being built right up against it. 2.gif

The riverfront development is very pleasing. Of course, it's the wide variety that accounts for that. Nice interchanges and intersections, again! The highway that dips down for the avenue intersection look cool. Your preparations for the sunken highway are good, as well. Can't wait for more! 9.gif

Hey Haljackey! I like your style man 4.gif I't great that you don't do a thing with your pics like many people in their CJs (just as i do also.. huh) so we can see exactly what you see in your game. By the way, how did you get this custom resolution in your game? Mine is bad since i've got new wider monitor so ingame picture is stretched from 1600x1200 to 1680x1050 - looks pretty ugly.. So how do you actually get your custom resolution?

EDIT: I've find out how to make a custom resolution, so forget it 4.gif
