I've been a Simtropolis Geek for quite a while now. I also noticed the arrival of Musketeer and Traveller.

I do love moving up in the ranks, it excites me!

Well, the thread's been active for a few months, so at least people are interested in it...

So I guess the Mogul thing does exist!31.gif  Now I have a rank to look forward too...time to spam the forums (j/k).  The Traveller thing is definitely new though, way to go dasilva!39.gif

EDIT: Hey abcvs, did you just change your avatar?

Well, back in the day, I did keep records of at what post I hit each rank, and this is what they were in that area:

-Dignitary (1879)

-Local Legend (2015)

-Local Hero (2104)

-Suburban Legend (2223)

-Suburban Hero (2349)

-Urban Legend (2401)

-Hometown Hero (2795)

And that's consistent with what you're seeing. Methinks those intermittent ranks are just so close together because they were added all at once. It used to be that you'd hit Urban Legend around 2000, and it was the highest rank. It got pushed back. Bear in mind, though, that back then Aronion was the top poster with just over 3000 posts.... and he had a custom label (the same one he still has, "The Resident Ass"), so he didn't have a rank since back in those days a custom label overrode a generic rank.

And to think that now the top poster has ten times that many posts, and had only just joined back then. 46.gif

On that note, "Sightseer" and "Traveller" (sic) are right near each other in a small spot.... are they the products of "Tourist" undergoing mitosis or is that still in there somewhere, too?

I've never encountered any that change so close together (it takes like 100-200 posts to change a rank for me now)

Still Musketeer is interesting,

Richard

You're thinking of "halitosis" (commonly known as bad breath). Mitosis is the process of a cell splitting to make two new cells. It's how single-celled organisms reproduce, and it's also how multi-celled organisms grow, heal wounds, and replace old cells that die.

On the other hand, the production of gametes is done through a slightly different process called meiosis. The fundamental difference being that chromosomes are not duplicated so the resultant cells only have one of each rather than the normal pair of sets. This is important because if gametes were produced by mitosis, each generation would have twice as many chromosomes as the last, and that would get out of hand real fast.

(Gametes, in case you didn't know and didn't figure it out, are reproductive cells. Namely sperm and ova).

They teach you all this stuff in 10th grade biology if you bother to pay attention. 2.gif

The curriculum will vary depending on where you go to school. Where I went to school, 9th grade was Earth Science, 10th grade was Biology, 11th grade was Chemistry, and if you so elected (I did), 12th grade was Physics.

Believe me, I know more about engineering than I do about biology. It is my major, after all. Difference is, a lot of it is stuff you won't find yourself trying to explain to the average Joe, is not stuff that's taught in high school, and is not really interesting or useful knowledge to the non-engineer.

I could lecture on how to find deflections in structures by the virtual work method, but nobody would understand. Or care. Kinda hard to explain it to someone who isn't already familiar with Statics and Solid Mechanics.

Just words of the wise: you shouldn't go around bragging about things like that. People might brand you as a spammer.

And, well, it isn't a pissing contest. Never judge a member by his/her post count. On any sizable forum, there are bound to be idiots with several thousand posts and nice people with relatively few.

And, actually that leads me to the next bit of sage advice: try and make quality posts. That means proper spelling  and grammar, and not abusing punctuation and chatspeak. For instance, your post here would ideally look more like this:

I'm a Traveller for now. When will I turn into a dweller? On Saturday, April 12, 2008 I posted 40 posts! Go me!quote>

See how much of a difference that makes in how enjoyable it is to read?

And I'll tell it to you straight: it also makes a big difference in what people will think of you. You'll get more respect if you use proper English. It makes you look smarter and more mature. Being sloppy makes you look stupid. It's therefore in your best interest to put in the effort and do it right. Just keep that in mind when you're composing a post.

And if you don't realize you've made a mistake until after you've already made the post, you can always edit it.

Welcome to Simtropolis and good luck.

DukeEdit: What the hell? Why are there three ls in it now?47.gif

Methinks the admins realized it was already misspelled with two ls and decided to play a little game by adding another one and seeing if anyone would notice. Well, you have your answer: someone did.5.gif

Travelller eh? LOL, typo!

Anyways, when I hit 1888 posts, I became a dignitary. What's up with that?

-Why couldn't it be a nice round number like 2000?

And about the post count, its always quality over quantity here @ ST. When I hit an average of over 1 post per day, I thought I was posting too much. Now I'm over 2, LOL!

Best,

-Haljackey
