caspervg: Nice tunnel entrance/exit!  It reminds me of the one in Tokyo Bay.

dogma555: Interesting view @ both images!  I like it!

Deever: Nice photoshopping effects used!  I aggree with dogma555 though, it would look and function so much better if you got rid of the avenue transition and the signals.

vilbe: Lookin good!  Nice job!

Here's some new highway "construction" I am currently working on.

Here are some highways i've been dieing to show! I know its alot of pics but haljackey just showd me how to to this and im getting excited. Also thanks hal for the highway devider idea.  I will post more! Let me know what you guys think!

Entering Minneapolis on the 695 Freeway with an I-110 freeway style Interchange to limit congestion wile exiting

img229/5841/enteringminnigy3.jpg

The start of the RHW 8!! Where it get's really busy on the edge of Dowtown Minni.  I had to remove some hosuing area to make room for extra lanes.  Kind of like a highway renewal project.

img208/484/beginingrhw8kh8.jpg

First connection from the north end of downtown

img229/3610/continuing1aj0.jpg

Just a further up

img229/139/continuing2df7.jpg

Leaving town

img229/452/leavingtown3de3.jpg

First interchange coming into minneapolis from my furthest suburb.  Ive been trying to force my communities to use the freeways and sometimes it leads to abadonment but oh well....It still needs some work I know.

i was debating where to stick these, but i finally had me some much needed time...

NewLondon-Sep24381202755793.jpg

just before the cloverleaf...

NewLondon-Sep16381202755743.jpg

the inner, ring known as the New London Freeway is infamous for its neon lights. here's an example..

NewLondon-Oct26381202756067.jpg

ah, looks better with development. the Y interchange. Gold end takes you downtown. The light blue end takes you to Pachaug, suburbs and farms..

NewLondon-Oct15381202755981.jpg

stunning views by the capital district. with neon.

i've been meaning to ask around, how does the MIS [RHW] do with slopes? i've been debating the addition for quite sometime, for the realistic highway approach.

chrisnhl50: Nice work!  Although I see  few things with your photos that could be improved:

-Try to avoid MIS/one way connections.  Aside from not looking good, they actually hinder your functionality because of all the transitions.  Try to extend the MIS all the way,

-You have sharp 90 degree turns.  In RL, that would cause tons of rollovers, especially with trucks,  Try to make your curves more gradual.

-Your slopes are a little steep, don't you think?  Try to make the grading more smooth for a better slope.

-Try not to place entrance/exit ramps so close to eachother.  This causes weaving, which is especially noticeable in your first photo, northbound.  Try to elongate the ramps or separate them to help reduce/eliminate weaving.

In addition, I can see that you are trying to link your images to their full resolution.  Make sure you provide the direct link to the image.  For example, your first image should be linked to http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/5841/enteringminnigy3.jpg

Other than that, nice job!

Vilbe:Great job!  I have always liked your sunken highways.  Keep it up!

Best,

-Haljackey

@ Hal. Thanks for the constructive critisisme!

- I use one way connextions because I installed this network in replace of an old existing highway and it was a major renewal project so I played around with so many different options and this just seemed to work the best with in some cases extremely high volumes of traffic

-The 90degree angle turns are just me trying to replicate some of the residential interchanges on the 110 in Los Angeles that restrict stopping on the avenues underneath the freeway. They also did this using major accel decel lanes that were really hard for me to make room for and it caused some texture problems. In the new version it will be so easy.

- as for the waving..Umm well you definitly have a point there but I just did this to make the rhw8 as long as possible. Do the one way conenctions seriously cause problems?

a fresh pic from me:

Aurora-Hospital.jpg

This pic was meant to showcase how to blend in a sunken freeway in a large city, not focusing on the highway itself.

I'm no highways person (I don't like building large towns, because I focus more on small, agricultural towns), but the highway pics here have made me want to try my hand on them. They're AWESOME! 6.gif

BTW, where do you get the large pointy things that look like lights, Yoshiisland and haljackey?

sorry for the distance shot, but you captured a recent project. replacing the bridges to something of more capacity [even with 2 ferry lines running too!]. the hard part was making an on/off ramp on the island, which i'm still not satisfied with. while trying to disrupt as little as possible.

This is I-41, it takes a route from Kensington, around the mountains to North Pointe. It's considered one of the most scenic routes in all of Marquette, but nobody really cares. They're working on a rest stop just after the third picture, that's why the shoulder is closed up ahead. The pictures go in order from southwest to northeast.
