Ever wondered what Simtropolis used to be like?

It's nostalgia time! I have recently found this site called Internet Archive where you can see previous versions of websites. I always wondered what ST was like in bygone days and now I'd like to share this with the community. Here is the link:

http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://simtropolis.com

You can click on any of those dates to view the past. The page may not load 100% properly, and you won't be able to use the STEX, but the forums are still there and it's interesting to see all those posts from long ago. Also it will say the number of members there are on the front page.

ST is now coming towards its 6th year. We're about to have another great set of trixie awards, and may I wish this site all the best for years to come!

Wow, thats really interesting.

I discovered Simtropolis in 2004, lurked around for about a year, then decided to become a member in 2005. This is just what the site used to look like!

It just goes to show ya how far this site has come!

Yeah that site has been around for a long time! There are other threads about this website on Simtropolis, but it's good to update it once and a while. Very interesting. It reminds me of my 2004 days!

I remember Dudyconstructor pop this same archive up back a year or two ago, it's still amazing how much the site has grown and changed over time. I remember when the site only had around 45k members...and now it's very close to 200k members 3.gif

This Webarchive thing has been mentioned several times before. You're not showing us anything new.

Also, some of us have been around long enough that we remember most of it anyway.

Still interesting to see, though.

Yeah, well, there's the issue. Four years and change isn't that much in real time, but in internet time, we might as well have been here for 400 years. The information age makes things move fast like that.

I remember first getting internet access back in 1995. One of the things my family found fun was watching the pictures slowly creep onto the screen, and wee were all oohing and ahhing at it. That was 12 years ago. But so far as computer stuff is concerned, that's an eternity.

Only the internet can make a 19 year old feel like an old man.3.gif

I remember the days when Builderman was the top poster. 3.gif

It was refreshing to see Simtrop 3.0 again, I was beginning to forget what it looked like. Simtropolis 4.0 remains my favorite rendition of the forums as far as the forum skin goes - it was just so elegant.

If the users from 03 are old farts, then I guess the users from 04 are middle aged. 3.gif

I have to admit, ST 4 was my favorite version of ST to date, although it was the most unreliable version to date, it looked cool.

Oh, we know all right.

Which means that next year us 05ers experience middle aged crisis. (Isn't 15 a rather young age for that?)

Wow, so many happy memories. I personally joined ST back in '05, and would not be playing Simcity if it wasn't for this site.

I liked the 'Rumors about SC5' from Jan/04...if only we knew then what we know now. SCS must really be disappointing to you 'old farts' who were anxiously anticipating it almost 4 years ago. I was still playing a PS1 then!

Let no one yield, we're on the field where deeds eclipse the sun; where the brave are told on a thread of gold, the tapestry is spun. As they speak of dreams, their armor gleams, this calm before the storm... Where all can see their destiny, the bishop takes the pawn.

I guess ST wasn't always like this...

I've only been here for 2 or 3 months...

I remember the Black scheme that we had back in 2003. I loved it, it was so simple and so sexy. The white theme was also really really nice. I think it's probably my favourite.
