It was the same in City Life, you would have to build each induvidual foundation slot. Don't tell me that its like simcity where you can just shift click and cover an entire area, allowing the computer to gracefully calculate the size of houses, lots and spare room that can't be used but instead being used as larger gardens, parking space ect.

This game is over rated.

Simcity is old but at least it still beats every next gen game in terms of detail.quote>

So, by your logic - the ability to cover a large area with a gridded zone is more detailed than building things yourself, at any angle? 21.gif

Anyway, I'll be buying this the day it comes out, and I look forward to rejoining the Simtropolis community once I have it. 9.gif

Game features as City Life?? Because I saw all these pictures and I didn't saw a railway line...
Also are there any highway junctions or just crossroads as City life???
If not there is no reason to change SC4....

Railway: I read a review about the railway being a GEM that will be downloaded from the site when it comes out.

Highway: You can make elevated roads so highway junctions will be possible, they just haven't posted yet.

I'm getting this game when it comes out. My Sim City 4 Rush Hour crashed because of the mods installed, reinstalling right now.

Railways - they will be implemented later, because they use the same mechanics as roads, so it's just a matter of changing some parameters and textures. 3.gif Also, as mystic_horizon stated, there will be a GEM to expand and deepen railway construction, maintanance and effects. 3.gif

Highway junctions - you can't make a highway junction without a highway, which will be also implemented later. But as the "roads" video shows, the player appears to have more freedom in making interchanges, on/off-ramps, junctions, etc than ever before. 3.gif

I'm getting a computer upgrade right around when this comes out, so lucky me! This keeps looking sweeter and sweeter. I'm almost certainly getting this when it comes out.

Yeah, but that Toronto City Hall looks WAY out of scale...

This game does look good, but I do have a few concerns. First & foremost, I am not yet convinced that the transportation options are going to be as expansive as most of us are hoping for. Another one of my most important issues would be overall scale... Some things simply appear out of scale in some of the screenshots. Of course, every SimCity game has been guilty of that. The game also appears to have a somewhat pastel look (sort of like SC3000 had), but nonetheless it is beautiful & I will be definitely buying it.

Lastly, the screenshots seem to show almost as much repetition as Vanilla SC4. I hope I'm wrong on that one.

Wow!

Looking at the latest couple of screendshots has got me anticipating the release of the game. It looks pretty good. The ski resort with chairlifts, the cars, first person perspective. The difference is in the details.

The Cities XL crew is listening.1.gif

The screenshots so far look very impressive. This is what SCS (or SC5 or whatever) should have looked like. I hope that Cities XL really offers some true depth of play and design. That would be more taxing on computer systems but I really want something immersive. And I hope they allow the user to really customize cities. That's what was so great about SC3K and SC4.

Finally no grid roads anymore, hopefully ea will see and learn.

Because even though its looking nice, the game play is like societies and not like Sim City.

Which make it to me more like a rpg then a sim....

I can't wait until they release some photos of what the highways will look like! Maybe we'll be able to make custom off/on-ramps (not just the default diamond or cloverleaf interchanges)!

Yeah, that's true. Not much about the game core, but here are two new screens from the latest blog update: GEMs (Gameplay Extension Modules).

Impressive. Though, that's a lot of 3d stuff... in SC4 and others they use the isometric view to allow slower computers to still be able to display the great number of objects (in that case, sprites) required to render a city building by building. Original 3-d games were mostly fps, meaning limited range of view and a lot of indoor dungeon like areas and tunnels. What I'd like to see is what the average fps is on different benchmark levels (system configurations) at different settings. How streamlined is the 3d? I can imagine that if the average fps is slow it might make working on building the city complicated.

Anyway, those are just my impressions from a cursory scan. I like the way the roads appear to be allowed to be curved, and I take it the zoning can handle placing buildings in unusual shaped spaces.

Just dropping by, it has been awhile. Good to see you guys are alive and kicking still 4.gif

Also, some shots are a little too real - I work in Baltimore, and I was thinking how uncannily similar they are to the more run down areas. XD Terrible! I disapprove, too realistic 2.gif

This game is the reason I'm getting a quad-core CPU with watercooling, 4gbs of RAM, and a new hard drive...

I just am tired of not being able to get a good view of my city in SC4.

Sorry if my sentences change subjects quickly...

The second last picture reminds me of Half Life 2. I hope they don't forget to add clouds/weather system. Too bad the water is not multi-level to recreate waterfall like areas.

This game really needs a U-Drive-It mode. Imagine skiing down that slope, riding your boat down the river or beach, drive your car in the city and parks, and flying a helicopter or plane just to tour your creation. Thanks MC for making this great game!
