"I think there was plans for adapting to fit the change.  We were going to do that for SC5, whatever it might be."

That's good to hear.  It would really stink if this site truely DID go down forever.  This may sound corny but...

I'd buy SC:S just as an excuse to hang around here.

@patriots_1228: I'm with ya' all the way; I plan on playing for many years to come.48.gif

ehh, if it isnt notable then I guess it goes. At least wikipedia has logical reasons for locking or deleting things, and asks for community input first...unlike a certain other site we all know....

Maybe the main simcity 4 article could be revised to say more about all the community created custom content and fansites, which have undoubtably changed the game. The magazine article as well as the connections with EA/Maxis could jusify the notability such a thing.

Has anyone heard that the number of African elephants has trippled in the past four years??? If not maybe it's part of what librarians are hiding.

I don't claim to know or understand Wikipedia policy on what does and does not get included but all I know is that I've come across some of the most useless and obscure entries on that site. ST is an integral element of the game now (whether the makers want to acknowledge that or not). As pointed out above, major magazines have featured the site in articles and the game designers for SCS have met with some of the administrators of the site. I don't see why it wouldn't deserve an entry in Wikipedia.

I didn't even know that Wikipedia could delete its entries! 42.gif

But if they delete ST, they will have to do the same with the whole fansite section dedicated to SC4! Every game has their own fansites and that's the largest SC4 community.

And about notability, if you search "SimCity4" on Google as any dedicated site, you will find Simtropolis everywhere, even in the official site as you have stated before. Wikipedia has many news about new and old (sometimes very old) games that today are even less unknown than SimTrop as well!

This makes no sense... 7.gif

And maybe they shouldn't have pages.  But ST should, because it is the largest, and it represents more of the community than spin offs.  I don't care whether it is a one or two line mention, or if it is a small book.  Deletion is not very nice, especially since there is so much garbage on Wikipedia that it is rather ridiculous for them to single us out.  But, as I said previously, I believe there are plenty of articles out there that can be used as sources to satisfy the anal folks at WP.

I performed one of the recent "cuts", removing a lot of the cruft. Folks, this is a great site with a lot of community, but a lot of that article is frankly pap.

Guys. It's a 4 year old game. There are plenty of good communities out there with fantastic communities, but in the future, will people need to know? Do people need to know NOW?

Okay, in order to help make our article on Wikipedia more insightful, I added a picture to the article regarding the NAM (I am a member of wikipedia, although I really haven't done too much over the years). Lets keep getting some more info up there, as well as referencing more info that is already there. If that can be done, then I have high hopes that this article can be saved.

Yoshiisland:  Hey, lets not point fingers at anyone.  We all have our own opinions about this matter.  The more positive feedback we get, the better the chances of saving this article.

One update: I did do some editing with the NAM section, and I also added an additional picture to the section.  You can view it here.

Sorry about that haljackey, I didn't mean to point fingers at anyone.  I just didn't like the fact that someone would join ST just to come on here and tell us how ignorant and insignificant we are; that's not what this site is for.  I apologize if I offended anyone.

Hmm, I'd kind of assumed he meant that dolt from the first page of the thread. The one who knows the big wikipedia admins. 21.gif Exactly the kind of petulant user wikipedia doesn't need.

Now there, you have a point. Looks like somebody went a bit power-tripped. And it seems this guy will be doing a Request For Adminship soon...Hm.

Guys, I don't think it's really a big deal. If wikipedia wants to single us out and delete our article, so be it. They've already proved how fine an establishment they are. SimTrop is number 4 on google for "sim city fansite" searches anyhow. Let them destroy perfectly good content.

I might as well announce it now - the result of the recent AFD for Simtropolis was to delete the article.

I know that there are likely to be attempts at re-creating the article. This is good, I welcome any attempt to re-create the article and there are no specific rules prohibiting re-creating deleted articles. However, be-aware that articles deleted via AFD discussion which are re-created can be speedy deleted without discussion if they are similar or identical to the originally deleted article - and/or do not address the concerns raised in the AFD. So my advice is - if you re-create the Simtropolis article make sure it address the main concerns raised in this now closed AFD.

On the side note, I am also involved in plans to include some fan-base information in the SimCity 4 article as part of a drive to make it a Wikipedia "Good article".

I'm not sure what AFD means, but that's just not fair that they did that to simtropolis. I mean what did simtropolis do to wikipedia, huh? Did we go over there join their website and then just leave one threatening post? No I don't think so. I like wikipedia and I don't have a problem with the site itselfor It's members there, but I do have an idiot problem. But, you're right haljackey, It's all behind us now...

How is it not fair? After doing a quick scan of Wikipedia's deletion policy, they were well within their right to delete the Simtropolis article... the reason for which has been hashed and re-hashed throughout this thread: Lack of verifiable sources. As I recall, there were only one or two sources listed for that entire article.

Now while it was cool to have a Wikipedia article on Simtropolis, this really isn't the end of the world... if not work on creating an up to snuff article, why not just add a little fansite blurb to the SimCity 4 article?

I agree. I think a brief section should be added to the SC4 Article on Wikipedia. Wikipedia had every right to delete that article, based on their policies. I think a brief section on the SC4 Article would really do just fine, of course with all the sources! 4.gif

Why does Simtropolis need a Wiki article? We are a website, and not a very notage one like that. If we, for instance, appeared in major news outlets, did something extrondinary, or had a ton of controvery surrowding us, maybe then.

But for now, we really don't need to clutter Wiki with pointless articles. Give a link at the bottom of the SimCity 4 page. That is all that is needed.
