Ok, here's a thought, If the Simtropolis entry on Wikipedia was deleted (and already has been deleted) because of lack of reliable sources, then why is listed as a reference on the SimCity: Societies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SimCity_Societies) wiki page? If this site (Simtropolis) is a reliable source, shouldn't that qualify for an article on Wikipedia? If not, then the article of SCS should be deleted as well because it is based on a Non-reliable source.

Well, not anime sites, that's for sure.  As to nerd_guys remark normally I wouldn't think getting in touch with EA is so easy, but since they already met with Dirk personally...

Then again, there's several more important things then that.  How many people have popped in and said "I'm sure glad I found that article on Wikepedia!  This site is so fantastic!"?  Well, this site is fantastic, but in any case...

This issue was not lack of sources - it was lack of secondary sources. Sources from Simtropolis used for a Simtropolis article are easy to get but would be primary sources - Wikipedia articles to be considered notable should most of the time have a variety of secondary sources used or available to use - there are some around for Simtropolis but not many, and how well they could verify the text is debatable.

The source of a Simtropolis interview for a SimCity Societies is an appropriate independent, published and reliable source. The comments from Rod Humble himself is a primary source - though the interview overall is a secondary source. The SimCity Societies article has a variety of sources used (most secondary) which clearly verify the text - meaning it establishes notability.

Non in the SimCity arena now I believe. This will give you an overview:

I get the impression many on that list will be deleted in the long-run though.

True, a short summary in the SimCity 4 article would cover that. Though at the end of the day, it is written into policy that is not a function of Wikipedia to advertise.

I noticed that, it is short and it is not clear who wrote it - so it is a debatable secondary source.

Hey everyone,

Sorry the ST article was deleted - but there was cause for it. Maybe we should start penning a better version, no?

Also, in response to the post by jonjonbt (and the counterposts that followed) - an examination of his user page shows 3 things:

1. He got into trouble with several other wikipedians after posting as he did. See here, at the bottom of the page.

2. He is only 11 years of age. While this in itself is no problem - I'm only 13 - it is definitly a factor in why he acted the way he did, i. e. impulsively and with obvious rudeness and stupidity. At this age, even the most intelligent of people have trouble controlling urges to do things as he did. See his about page where he openly says his age.

3. His most important edit on Wikipedia (in his own words, taken from his userpage) was the "Nicktropolis" article. Also, he has submitted an RfD twice, both times being rejected or cancelling the submission - he almost quit when the first one was rejected, as his main username page says.

I think in light of these things, we can see we're not dealing with the Cream of the Wikipedia Crop. However, keep in mind that from their perspective, we were canvassing, which is punishable by ban on Wikipedia.

Looks good to me!  I would venture that ST was created prior to the date you have listed on there.  For proof, look at the date I joined:  11 January 2003.

EDIT:  Serves me for not reading.  3.gif

Ya, its coming along. I added an image to your article.

I have once again added a fair use rationale for the image so it won't cause any problems (such as copyright, sources, etc) . On a extra note; I am getting concerned that NAM related content in the article is becoming excessive. I have chopped some of it down, but most of it still needs work.

A picture is worth 1000 words, an in this case, another dimension to the article!

If you don't like it, then you can by all means delete it.

Unfortunately, fair use images can only be used on Wikipedia if they are used in at least one article; and they should not be used at all on the user-space (where the Simtropolis article now is). That is why those images are tagged for deletion. This is stated at:

I fixed the link. Is it "fair use" if we get explicit permission by Dirk to use the main page picture?

Yes and no. Dirk owns the website so I think he can release pictures of the home page so they are free (not fair use).  Simple permission will not be enough; he will need to in a written format release the picture - he can release it under the GNU Free Documentation License or another license, or simply into the public domain.

    More:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_domain

If the image becomes free it will need to be correctly re-tagged and free images should generally be moved to Wikimedia Commons - so they can be used on all projects.

For the time being; all SimCity 4 images and going to stay fair use unfortunately.

*****! Okay there are meny things on Wikipedia that do not have "sources" or that can't be proven. This would have been a page for a SimCity 4 fan site...not the laws of F'ing physics. It would have been one of the fun pages on Wikipedia with a little note that says that there are no sources or what ever....I lost alot of respect for wikipedia after this one....I love that they think that if something is printed it is fact.....were are still looking for them WMDs in iraq...a piece of paper said they were there so lets keep on looking.
