Hi all!

I hope this topic is in the right place, cound't find a forum for quesions about Sim City.

I'm building a nice city but I'm not sure about the ammount of tiles to use for 1 building. I want to make my citie as big as I can so I need to control the buildings so no 3 tile-buildings will appear.

Residential skyskraper needs 3*4

High tech industry needs 3*3 tiles?

And what about commercial?

How much tiles do the biggest buildings in Sim City 4 take for R, C and I?

And does it matter wich way faces the road?

I really hope somebody can help me so I can build a great city after all!

Welcome to Simtropolis

Somebody please move this to general discussion, that's where it belongs.

Meanwhile,  you should understand that until your population gets to be about 50,000 you really won't get any large buildings no matter how you zone.  You also have to meet a bunch of other conditions.  I suggest a serious browse through the Omnibus for openers.

its hard to say whats the max no. of tiles, coz recently ive just found out a 6*5 tiled commercial building after having to play SC4 for 3 years now! so yea maybe it strongly depends on ur city conditions..

Thank you for your awnser and sorry to post this in the wrong place but hey, this is a massive forum, not used to that!

My city conditions are very good although I only have 85.000 population and loads of empty space. Only high-tech, good education, low pollution, no traffic jams etc. etc.

I build my city in a specific way, I make squares of road, all the same size so public transport (and other stuff) is easier and cheaper to build and you waste less space. I build houses 4*4 now, the biggest buidling I get are with around 3000 people in it. I was wondering if the 4*4 isn't enough for the biggest buildings.

I could ask my question in another way: Do you need 5*5 tiles for a really big building to pop up or is 4*5 or 4*4 enough?

The 5*6 building for commerce is a great hint, thank you, that was what I was looking for!!!! Now I can make sure there's enough room for them to pop up!

    Edit: typo

The biggest population comes from buildings that are a minimum of 4x4 tiles, but with industry it is more.

How do you build? Edit: How many tiles in 1 piece? /Edit

I only have room for 6*4 buildig because I make a square of 12* 12 tiles with a 4*4 gap in the middle with a park and trees.

Is that stupid because I miss the really tall buildings that way?

And how many people live in a skyskraper (roughly)

im not entirely sure how many tiles the tallest buildings take up, but im getting a lot of ppl (n guide sources etc) saying to get ready with a 4*4 tile commercial (or even residential) coz proly the tallest skyscrapers tend to just take up that amount of space as wot like nerdly_dood has said..

now, the 5*6 tiled bulding i said to u wasnt reli a big one, its just merely a shopping mall that has a huge compound area (open grass, paved area, parking garage..all theses seems 2 take up space). its called the HSU MALL if uve seen it before. So its more spread out, than going up. so i'd proly say as long as u reserve 4*4 tiles for comm/residen..u wont be missing out on anything!

so lets just wait n see til ur city starts growing em tall! fyi..if im nt mistaken, u need at least 40000 commercial jobs inorder for u start seeing hi-rise comm buildings..

to get a preview of the stats for a large building, look at it with SC4Tool.

how do you tell how many jobs u have while playing? I know u can see it in region mode but when playing in the actual city how can u tell?

This can be done by checking the Jobs & Pop graph.

    For example:

    Jobs And Pop Graph - Corillion I6 - Example.png

(Pictured from Cori's I6 city tile.)

In the above pic I've toggled off R$ so the scale of the graph is more viewable.

For more detailed information about population and jobs (and other things), you may find the Census Repository a useful tool.
