Welcome to my little BAT thread. I have been lurking this website since december of last year and i recently got GMAX with BAT and read some awsome tutorials and i learned really fast. 3.gif
I completed Phillipbo's tutorial building and it looks very good ( at least it looked nice)
I have also read some tutorials by others like Darkmater (i think, dunno) and sg (i like his BATs)
So back on topic, my first bat ever!!! is a bank building.

It's looking really good!  1.gif

Right now, I suggest for your future BATs, that when you decide on what kind of building you want to make, you search a website like google images, or www.flickr.com, and find buildings that are similar to what you want to make.  It makes it a lot easier to make a well designed building.

Some things about the roof:

- Those tracks along the roof are for window washer cranes, which hold the cage that window washers wash windows from.  These are generally on taller buildings.  If you did have it on this though, you would need to have a mechanical penthouse to hold the window washing equipment.

- There's no way to get to the roof.

- Arranging the roof junk less randomly gives the impression of purpose to the roof junk.  You can also use real life roofs for reference.

More tutorials if you haven't read these ones yet:

- There's a tutorial I wrote in my signature.

- There's a tutorial I wrote a lot like the one above, but it's about windows.  It's here.

-  There's a tutorial about roof texturing here.

Anyway, you're off to a great start.  1.gif

    jacqulina: thanks for your comment
    autoVino: thnx
Jasoncw: I removed the tracks from the roof. I am going to put a ladder behinbd the building to give it more realism and i will move around the roof junk some more.
Anyways too much talking, here is a screeny.

Look at the roof I really learned alot from one of the tuts you posted.
For my next BAT I will try a real life building (maybe some rowhomes from Chicago.

I really, really suspect that Jacqulina isn't real person, but a robot or something.
Bat is not bad, but there are few points I would like to make. When you model something keep it "real" - I mean think of such a thing like the essential distances absolutely required by the very construction of the building - like space between rows of windows. If there is a floor change there that means that some space would be taken by that, then also Windows (in these type of buildings rarely start right from the floor and go on right to the ceiling, not in both floors, at least. Also if you look at the roof level and the top of you second floor windows they are on the same level - that's doesn’t look right. buildings like this would always leave some space for an attic. Even if attic is not there will still be some perceivable thickens. Also roof junk. Don't treat it as junk! There should be some logic for placement of pipes, AC unit and so on.

Wow this is an excellent first bat. You hvae a lot of promise! I don't have anyything really major to suggest. You would be wise to check out the tutorials Jason posted, they're all essential reading for the texturing portion (without good textures the greatest model can look pretty bad).

With respect to Simfox, I don't think there is a problem with the windows the way you have them. His points are valid but banks tend to go for a more imposing palatial style so really large near floor to ceiling windows fit in my opinion.

The one thing that I think you need to do is scale down the HVACs. They're huge! On your next project try getting a little creative and making your own instead of those very simple tutorial ones (alternatively Tag_One has some very well detailed hvacs models available to anyone who wants them either here on the stex or on the SC4Devotion exchange).

Finally, that brick you're using, don't be afraid to exagerate. For brick detailing to show your bricks need to be larger than they would be in real life. Maxis reached the same conclusion, just look at their high school. Right now it's just a blur of colour.

This is a very promising first project. I look forward to seeing more and seeing what you're planning to do with the back of this building.

Salbador: before i got into BATig i was into the Blender which is more complicated compared to gmax. So switching from blender to gmax wasn't very hard altough both programs are diffrent. Update coming soon, been busy with RL. 9.gif

    EDIT:
    Time for an update.
Yesterday, while looking for more chicago buildings for my upcoming cj, i came across with a glassy building that caught my eye. Can't remember who it was, think it was BAM, Ndex or somethung. So anyways, i started today this building. The shot should be selfexplanatory.

    Thanks all for being helpful.

    Back to my 1st BaT.
I've changed the height and made some nifty quoins (both ends of the wall)
    stcs04oh7.jpg
I did a keystone can you spot it? will the building look good with keystones?

Anyways thanks all for posting on my thread.

Yay! That's quite an improvement on the little bank building, I'd say. 4.gif

Wow, that is quite an improvement. The textures are the thing that really make the new version of the building...

The new glassy building looks very promising indeed. Will it be W2W? It certainly looks like a w2w building, anyhow. Both would make excellent additions to my cities.

This building really cought my attention. And not because the guy who made it is from Chicago, but i like it alot, dunno why.

    blampioneer1rj7.jpg

    So now im starting this.

    mytworkb7.jpg

Not exact, i do not want to copy his work. Mine is a little shorter. I have the basic textures in place.

Tommorrow is July 4 so i might not post here, but please keep on with comments.

Thanks Jason, I intended to make this building a low-rise - mid rise. I will make taller buildings after I have done a few for my CJ.

I love the idea of a spire! (Hahahah, I like spires.) I think I've already seen it on teh STEX, but I'm sure yo ucoulr re-release it with a spire. The keystones look GREAT on that little bank building, the edit looks a lot better from the first go, also, what happened to the billboard building!? I love billboards (well, buildings with props in general...). I guess my only suggestion, and it's a personal preference really, is use some colour! I'd love to see some colourful billboards, or maybe some interestingly tinted glass. otherwise, you're doing really well! Let's be beginners together!
