Hello all I have decided to try my hand at batting again. 1.gif

My first building (since my long holiday from batting)

alkhobarflats4.jpg

This is what I have made so far, these are based from real apartments in Khobar, Saudi Arabia but I think they are so generic they will fit into any city around the world.

To do: more roof junk ? adding shops on the ground floor, nightlighting. Thanks for viewing44.gif

Awesome this apartment would be perfect for my CJ! I have been looking for these generic long apartments all over the STEX as they are really common in Japan!

Welcome back!  10.gif

I l?ke that BAT as it is really so generic as you already said.

To your questions: yes, some small shops or a medium-sized  supermarket on the ground floor would be suitable as well as (quite some!) satellite dishes and air conditioning exhausts.

And I would rate the building as R$ .. 2.gif

These look really good but it needs a utility area like one to put the bins, generator etc as in most flats

Oh, not prefabricated in another country? Those look amazing. If they were a little taller they'd look good, and I think roof junk is the way to go. The textures are outstanding! This is looking great so far.

Welcome back to BAT!

Though, I do agree with SimFox, the walls are a bit thick. Other than that this looks to be a good building.

Thanks for all your replies! 44.gif

I left this to brew and now here is the result.

Added ground floor shops on the front, the back is for residential access so it is much plainer compared to the front which will face onto the street. I also de-thickened the walls and they look a lot better now19.gif I don't think I will make it any taller though, IMO we have plenty of tall things but less low-mid rise, besides its the same amount of floors as the real building 3.gif

awesome work! could you also make a "cleaner" version? There are some apartments in boston that look just like this but are less dirty. Good to have ya back BATting!

Hm... looks great so far. 4.gif I just fear that the ground floor may look far too low, especially in comparison to Sims walking along the road in front of the building. I know scale in SC4 is a total mess, but I think scaling the ground floor up vertically might be a good move.

Oh man, this is great! I can think of a million places where this would come in handy. Can't wait to see it released! EDIT: About the height, if anything, you should make a smaller version as well. We do have more than enough tall buildings.

Yes, I was just about to suggest what T Wrecks suggested.  The first floor definitely looks too short.

Also, for all of the textures, I recommend completely desaturating them, and then adding in a new color.  Look at the R$ Maxis buildings in the game that have the same materials as your building to see what color to add back in.

Right now, your building has a green tint to it all over, but the game does not use green like that in the buildings.
