Here is my first custom made airport...

It's a very small one with a capacity of 25.000...

The Airport was built on a artificial island near the coast passengers can reach it over a dam with the car or the train...

Probably not quite on topic, but I hope that's not a problem:

I've started creating my own airport too, I'm on the way, but having a problem now.. In many of the pictures you've posted I see that your roads to different parts of the airport are under ground. How do you do that? Trying to create a standard tunnel does not work. Is that also some kind of addon?

Sorted that out.

OT:

There are many nice airports in this topic. I will post mine too if it ever gets finished..

Well, I just post some pics. My first airport, took around 5 hours to build:

Picture 1 - Passenger Area Overview

Picture 2 - The Access to the Airport

Picture 3 - Overview of the Airport.

There are much better airports posted in this threat, but hé.. it's my first try 2.gif

Dammit, can't get in my airport city anymore.. When loading the city, Sim City 4 just crashes to desktop. I think it has something to do with some of the airport lots. The day before some lots where acting strange. There were some empty spaces, where I couldn't build, bulldozing them costed around $20.000, while there was nothing there. Eventually I managed to build the thing I want there and saved and quit. Not very smart when I look back now. Does anyone has a solution, or should I start all over again? And if so, how do I keep the landscape as it is?

sorry that i post twice, but i didn't know if it would work, posting pics offsite with imageshack 10.gif

As you could see (or not 9.gif), i have two terminals. One for the arrivals (right) and one for the departures (bottom).

I don't know if that is a practical advantage, but i tought i could be cool.

now i have some more detailed pictures:

luchthaven29sep031119999427ny9.jpg

Here you can see how the highways are split up into one-way roads to direct traffic to the two terminal buildings. The terminals are not on the image.. The arrivals are at the top right corner. Departures at top left corner. You can see that there's a big train station to. There's only one, so there's an avenue going to the arrivals and to the departures. To get to the departures, it has to go underground... The other avenue that is going underground just in front of the trainstation (but in the other direction -- right) is going to some parking areas. There are also some monorail stations and bus stations connected to the avenues.

luchthaven3jun051153141173cu1.jpg

This is a closer look at the traffic junction for the departures. There's a road that's going underground. that one is leading to a parking lot for airport personnel. There's an ID control booth so nobody else can get there. The avenue that's coming "out of the ground" and that's leading to the busstation is the one that came from the trainstation. The other underground avenue is also going to some parking area's.

luchthaven21mei051153141034fg4.jpg

The departures hall is included in this picture

luchthaven16mei051153141002jn4.jpg

The departures terminal buildings and the control tower

luchthaven15mei051153140982az5.jpg

Arrivals terminal and hall

luchthaven26mei051153141074vj9.jpg

This is also a traffic junction. From each adjacent city tile, there's a monorail and/or a train track coming. There's also an highway coming from each adjacent city.

luchthaven21okt051153141680eh9.jpg

This is the cargo area. You can see a road going next to it and going under. This road is only accessible for airport personnel and is going almost entirely around the airport. The tunnel is there to connect the control tower, that is in the middle of the landing strips.

luchthaven29mei051153141114cb5.jpg

This is the main parking area. There are long term, multiple storey parkings, short term parking lots and underground parkings. You can also see the road to the personnel parking coming up, on the left side.

luchthaven31mei051153141142es0.jpg

This is the personnel parking area. There's a bus that brings the people where they have to be, so they can leave their cars on the parking lot. Thats why there has to be a road around the airport.

Hope you like my airport. Comments are welcome (not too negative please 44.gif)

Wow, exterminator, that is an awesome airport. You've really focused on the transit of it. Which is great, I love it.

And there are some other awesome airports here as well.

whoa exterminator u got a hell of a airport going on here. too complex for me to make but hotdanm stay it, i like it. tons of transit usage which is essential for any real airport and ur dumb sims to find there way there. i recommend Dling NDEX parking garage set at this url: https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=15455. may be able to help with all your transit needs for parking!, very nice job though i like it

jorritvandommelen: I think if you have Rush Hour you can drag a ground highway under an elevated highway to make a better-looking intersection. Just a suggestion.

This is an airport for a tiny region of mine (8km x 8km). It's got 8 gates (3 MD-80/RJ/737 gates, 2 737/A320/757/767 gates, and 3 walk up gates). It compares quite nicely to Aspen-Pitken county airport in Colorado. I'm rather proud of it's placement and the relative flatness of it. If you look, it's almost perfectly scaled, with a runway length of about 9000'...very normal for this kind of mountain airport...

I forgot to grab a region shot, but the approach paths are quite cool as well. This airport would be a blast to fly into.

Here's my most recent attempt (and my best) at an airport:

    Full view:

    1kk4.jpg

    The terminal and transportation:

    2wh7.jpg

I've been trying to make it more realistic by lowering the areas in between runways. So far I only have the areas between the second and third done. It takes a while because I lower exactly one click per tile, an the areas are ten tiles wide. I then use streets to level it from side to side so that I dont have to lower all the way down. I'm not sure if I want to bother with the other spaces.

    Hi all!

After my Computer crashed in April, taking my entire SC4 collection with it, I was hesitant to touch the program for a while, even after I got my new computer. Three weeks ago, i tried it again, and below you see some of the results.

Below is an overview of Landfall Passage International

    LandfallPassage-21Jul.jpg

This is the very first terminal at the airport. It was built in 1956 and, with some modernisation served as the main terminal until 1985 It now houses all General aviation Facilities at the airport

    LandfallPassage-9Aug.jpg

Detail of Terminal One, with the Rental Car Park in the Background. Terminal 1 was opened in 1985 as a much neede replacement for the old terminal, which was getting way to small. Terminal 1 was designed to handle 2 Million passengers, a figure that was reached in 1999. Nowadays, Terminal 1 handles all domestic flights.

    LandfallPassage-17Aug.jpg

A closeup of Terminal 2, the international Terminal. When Terminal 1 reached its passnger limits in the late nineties, the airport authority decided to build a new terminal to the south, on the site of the old Coast Guard Base. Terminal 2 is designed to handle 8 Million passengers, and, when it was opened, was the most modern facility of its kind in the world. However, with the advent of low cost carriers, growth at Landfall Passage skyrocketed, and nowadays the terminal carries the nickname "Chaotic international"

    LandfallPassage-20Aug.jpg

And finally, the Maintenance Area and the new control Tower. The Tower was opened in 2001, to replace the old ATC facility near the GA Terminal, which was relegated to ground and apron control. The Hangar, operated by Landfall Aerospace, was opened in 1996, and can house two Boeing 767s at once. Landfall Aerospace is a certified maintenance partner, and qualified to undertake D-Checks on all Boeing Models from the 707 onwards.
