The new game "Simtropolis", As it should be called, hence it is this site which has brought us all together, should have:

HISTORY:

You start, say 1800, and build your cities with victorian architecture, and transport, as your city progresses through time, technology and architecture will change to suit that period, and whilst having buildings from this era, you can list them as historical, so that like a modern city, it will change around these buildings, and you will have Art deco, edwardian, victorian, cubism, moderne etc, the current simcity just has all types of architecture jammed into any year.

You could even have Zepplins during the 1940s instead of airports, for transport, or the Phnumatic tube rail system in the 1900s such as in NYC. Or old trams as the main form of transport during the beginning of the 20th centuary. And as time goes by, you have the (OPTION) of upgrading these, or maintaining them into the modern era.

Just like the STEX donations, think about it, $10.00 from say 150,000 members is $1.5Million. And besides some of us already have game design software, or have the computer skills to create and program new game coding.

Can we get a website set up? There we can be more organized, and also begin writing code! We need a bug report system, organized development (feature freeze and filtering), and source code distribution and patch submission.

I agree a thread is good but a website is more organized. Oh and by the way, this is the greatest idea ever lol. Also, i dont know if this has been metioned yet or not, we could also have a system where the buildings dont appear repeatedly. An example is like not having a hundred wren insurance or other buildings, but only having 1 or even 2 and when it is demolsihed, it can grow again. This will add soooo much mor variety to the game. Custom content is what this whole website is about, and if many people join to create custom content for this propsed game, we will not have to worry about having a deficit of buildings or lot. This may seem like a challenge but I beileive it can be pulled off.

Joerg, you have a bold plan but I want you to know that Im with you 100% of the way and would be glad to help out, just gimme somethin to do lol.

thats why i would use 3dsmax/gmax files, i have heard there are similar programs out there that are still free, maybe someone who has gmax (like me) or 3dsmax can export sc4 custom content bats and maybe defualt maxis bats to gmax/3dsmax and then another program like, Caligari's TrueSpace, MilkShape 3D, Blender, an OPEN-SOURCE 3D program, plus i have heard that the last version of Gmax can still be downloaded from the official support website.

edit: gmax can still be downloaded from turbosquid: http://www.turbosquid.com/gmax

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this or not(I'm not going to read 18 pages), but I think that if you can't make an independent game, I would be easier to just make a really BIG expansion pack. Things that include the NAM, RHW, alot of Unique BAT's, newer roads, newer growable buildings, newer landmarks, newer rewards, and more. I would definitely go for a new massive expansion pack that could include a whole bunch of stuff to the game I currently have. I like your ideas though, and I fully support you guys!

I'm so terribly sorry, but have you considered that maybe I dont wan't to post on that website, and that I am a member of Simtropolis since 05 and that I, like all other members have a right to discuss this thread on Simtropolis. Please leave your comments to yourself.

If Simtropolis has some good programmers and artists, all that's needed is someone willing to invest money into the software. A producer.

Get that and you're good to go.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Children of all ages!

A website has been set up for the promotion of an organised discussion and debate of this immense project ahead of us. Visit http://urbsurbis.com register, read the forums and post your ideas!

For all who think that this is for a select invitees, this is not true! The forum is open to anyone to post ideas on and to take part in the discussions and debates on all the topics!

Nothing has been decided (contrary to what you might think from reading this thread). A few members were discussing things on MSN (I was not one) and made decisions themselves and started telling others that these decisions had been made. But these people have since retracted these comments and EVERYthing is up for debate.

Things are progressing very well, we are in the process of deciding on a broad decision making structure (for the major goals of the project), and once that has been decided upon many goals and decisions can and will be made.

I urge you all to head on over to http://urbsurbis.com and register and start taking part in the discussions!!!

regards,

LK

Well, if my Latin skills are still sharp, "Urbs Urbis" means We are the city's city. Yeah, I still am trying to figure that one out . . . TopCliff

LoL OK Sydney whats the point of your comment???? I think its very rude and not nessary
at all and please remeber one thing that you are just you and your statement could only really apply to you only and no one else maybe the other people you refered to would actuley like to be able to discuss this else where and have more orgination?  So with that i do hope you would think about first before you go and yell at someone.  BTW you do really have a good idea there Sydney!

Yes there is a website set up where there is more uniformity to discuss this further and its very user friendly site.  So if you would love to check out the devolpment please click below.

Is there any chance of being able to at least READ the forum without having to register on yet another site? This is nothing against the project by any means, after the crushing letdown of SCS, I am drooling over the notion of a fan-made game.

Ummmmm, guys, u DO realize to make a good game with such a HUGE amount of code AND better graphics than the SCS graphics, your'e talking about abiut a MULTI-MILIION

dollar program, which would need a FULL server and things such as maintanance.

I'm not saying it couldn't be done, knowing that EVERYONE in this orginization would be willing to donate a ten or a twenty, even, but you sure as hell would need some trust-worthy people to help develope this, AND who knows how to develope and MAINTAIN a game.

I'm willing to make a bet you could do it though!

Dude, you don't need to pay programmers if they volunteer. You don't need an entire server, since there's no online play - maybe one to host custom content, but that's easily paid for with donations.

If you read the thread, this is going to be a fan-based game, designed by fans for the fans. You don't need extraordinary amounts of money to do it if you have dedicated people and lots of free time.

I propose an idea for the game..

We don't need default buildings. Release the game so that it has plopping and/or growing capabilities for buildings and let the users do the rest - Simtropolis has done one hell of a job with SimCity 4.

Which raises the question, is 3ds Max still going to be used as an editor?

i have two ideas to submit

one, couldn't we just take the game city life or cities unlimited and mod it to the point where were getting everything that we want, much as projects such as the NAM have?

two, hire recently out of college or in college programmers who have expirence in the field but have yet to get a job at a company, that way we would get what we want and if we do have a succesful game the programmers will head off to bigger and better projects.

unfortunately, i have doubt that we would have the proper funding for this but we could keep ourselves from being tied down to a financier other than the masses (who, in turn for donating, request certan aspects in the game, such as light rail networks)

this all sounds crazy but it might work

I think in a way 3DS max has in fact been vital to the survival of SC4, because i think its simple enough but also versatile enough to get the job done.

Also, i have talked to my uncle who owns a huge server corporation in Kentucky and hes willing to let us use the server for very reducded prices. I need to speak to the main person incharge of ST1000.
