  1. Simtropolis 1000

i have two ideas to submit one, couldn't we just take the game city life or cities unlimited and mod it to the point where were getting everything that we want, much as projects such as the NAM have? two, hire recently out of college or in college programmers who have expirence in the field but have yet to get a job at a company, that way we would get what we want and if we do have a succesful game the programmers will head off to bigger and better projects. unfortunately, i have doubt that we would have the proper funding for this but we could keep ourselves from being tied down to a financier other than the masses (who, in turn for donating, request certan aspects in the game, such as light rail networks) this all sounds crazy but it might work
  2. Worst City Planning

downtown residence projects wont help, what needs to happen in those cities is to expand rapid transit systems and force buisnesses to allocate land beneath their buildings to shops, stores, and clubs. The Problem with the modern American city is just that, when work is over, everyone leaves for home (thank the highways and the car). my suggestion to urban planners? stop being stupid and building highways, build new mass transit systems and create mixed zoning areas. Oh and dont expand roads, build new sidewalks and bike paths instead.
  3. Worst City Planning

Belive it or Not I say the city of New York Hear me out I live in North Westchester and i absolutly LOVE New York City, filled with life, al ways moving. but once you leave the bright lights and the dense urbanisim that is Manhattan, IT SUCKS. Robert Moses should never have been hired to redo the city. Thanks to him, there are two extremly ugly elevated highways that extend down the east and west sides of it. Also thanks to him, we have hundreds of rotten old apartments scatted around the city, and had development of the inner city stalled to a halt since the late 70's and the oil crush. Had he not been stopped in his tracks by the citizens of New York, he just might have gotten his way with the MME ( mid-manhattan expressway) and the LME (lower Manhattan expressway) and cut the city in three seperate parts like so many other American cities. Then you get outside the city, and theres nothing but highways, suburbs, macdonalds, factories, warehouses, and mcMansions. The best alternative to that is Metro north except that all the parking lots for them are not only monitored but a parking permit costs up to 800 dollars a month. So basically, New Yorks impoverished have no place to live on the streets and people wonder why New York has so many gangsters, prostitutes, and homless
  4. how many of you live next to a highway? how many of you have had your houses torn down and your property values destroyed just to create a larger parking lot (AKA... The Freeway)? it is not good, thanks to the interstatet and planned expansion next to my house, our house is going to lose eqity and value on the housing market. The only reason that the highways came around was because eisenhower envied Germany's autobahn and was corrupted by cement building interests and american auto-makers. were it not for this, hundreds of american cities would be far more condensed and healthy than modern cities. it is even true that the highways make people fat because you dont have to exersise to get to places anymore. look at people in New York City, there are very few people who are obese and live in New York because its impossible to drive their and it is hundreds of times fater to take the highways. i cannot drive yet, and my childhood was dismal, it was spent alone and friendless because route 35 is to dangerous to cross. and the space that they take is atrocious. if you truly think that highways are better than building a new commuter rail or subway system, think again
  5. BSC Mac Archive

what do i do with the config files and the jpegs from maps in simcity 4 rush hour on a mac
  6. Post Modding Requests Here

yea, this is my first request and its probally a hard one to do, is it possible to mod GLR to be place like rails cause it really hard to place each section alone
  7. Ground Lightrail MOD - support

is there anyway that you could create a dragable version of GLR, like the elevated rail networks
  8. highways

Dont Use Highways Every City that i've built with a highway connecting it has been a failure. The Cities turned out completly flat, I became poor, and The City center was dead flat. even with a fully watered city, Medium density zones in high wanted areas, and a population of 21000, My City remained flat. Highways also cause massive ammounts of pollution, especally when its overcrowded. My option since then has always been connect reigons with avenues and highways only when its absoulty needed inter-reigons. Favor mass transit, it take up less space and is less costly. If you absoulty insist on having a highway, try to zone it over an avenue or sideways to zones, simply to make it easier and less costly to build.
