Currently going through some old JLAs, currently up to the beginning of Mark Waid's run as writer, and soon I'll re-read JSA.

I see your out of your Volcanic lair you move back to the States?

It would appear he is now in the approximate latitude of me.  Tropical southwestern Ontario.

Yup, but unfortunately, the jobs are scarce and we'll soon be relocated back downstate near Detroit.  A lot closer to my parents and an army of babysitters, too!

I'm almost finished reading "Never Let Me Go" by Kazuo Ishiguro. It's a pretty disturbing story about clones who are created for the sole purpose of having their organs harvested. Despite that dark premise, most of it is written like a nostalgic memoir and the narrator, who is one of these clones, doesn't find anything disturbing about her lot in life. I think that makes the story even more disturbing itself -_-

I surprisingly loved the book Fly West by Ivan Southall. It's a collection of aviation-related stories from the Sunderlands of RAF's Coastal Command in WWII and is very well written (even if it is a book for 14-years-old in fact) and I liked it a lot, I recommend it!

Now I'm starting Company by Max Barry, it looks good by now!

Good for you.  Now, when you've finished that one, if you haven't already, read The Prince by Niccolo Macchiavelli.

Still stuck in Antony and Cleopatra.  Some of this historical stuff requires thoughtful, careful reading even if it is fiction.

Reading a book called One Islam, Many Muslim Worlds. It's a brand new book that came out last month. It basically argues that moderate Islam will prevail in the end, though sometimes that's hard to believe reading the ISIS-related headlines...

IMHO, I tend to agree.  While there are still some offshoots, look at what happened to the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints.  A minor Christian sect who have more or less got it right.  Radical Christianity lives in the southern U.S.A. for the most part, and some quiet but firm schisms such as the Amish mix into the normal main stream.  There is a large Muslim population in the major city just south of me, and they live quiet, undemonstrative lives, going about their business mixed in with the rest of the population.

I am currently reading 'Blood of Elves' by Andrzej Sapkowski. It is the first of the Witcher Saga books. I have been so engrossed in it, and read the prologue 'The Last Wish' in a day.

I love fantasy and science fiction, i read a 'Song of Ice and Fire' at the beginning of the year and cannot wait for the next book.

Still stuck in the highly imaginative account of Antony and Cleopatra by Colleen McCullough.  Some historical fact, but mostly imagination.

Sunburst:  The Rise of Japanese Air Power, 1909--1941 by Mark R. Peattie

Kaigun:  Strategy, Tactics, and Technology in the Imperial Japanese Navy:  1887--1941 by David C. Evans and Mark R. Peattie

These will be Christmas gifts for a friend, but, of course, I have to pre-read them for--uh--quality control.

Still slugging through Antony and Cleopatra.  Several side trips into the history of the times to verify some of the stuff, and finding that some is made up, but some of it is quite accurate.  Antony was something of a rat, and Cleo was the quintessential designing woman who would do anything to keep her throne.  Unfortunately for her, she hitched her waggon to a loser and made an asp of herself.

The Man Who Would Be Queen - The Science of Gender-Bending and Transexualism

http://faculty.wcas.northwestern.edu/JMichael-Bailey/TMWWBQ.pdf

Trying to understand transgenderism a bit better. Very interesting read even though I disagree with some of the author's analysis. A lot of heart wrenching stories.

I just finished "The Arsenal of Democracy" by AJ Baime. I bought it in Mackinaw City back in July. I just finished it this past Monday. It reads with some real intensity, if you can find intensity out of the logistics of arming a country to fight a war. I really enjoyed it. There's quite a bit about the big auto makers, Detroit, and FDR. In fact that's what it's entirely about. So if you like that kind of stuff, I recommend it!
