ME - 05 Subaru Liberty (Legacy) 3.0 BSpec wagon (3 litre 6 cyl, 6 speed manual, sports suspension etc.) + BMW R1150 GS (bike)

My wife - 00 Subaru Outback 2.5 wagon + BMW R80 ST (bike)

We're big Subaru fans. We've also had a 99 WRX Hatch and a 92 DL wagon (bulletproof!). I had a Jeep Cherokee (Liberty in US) but the build quality couldn't compare to the Subaru's (as mentioned above). I know Subaru's are horrendously expensive in the US due to the local market protection taxes. Here in Oz they are comparatively priced and have a great reputation.

No car for me yet! I have a rock-hopper type bike; two years old, and not broken yet(I tend to go through bikes quickly, if they're not well built)!

1989 Toyota Camry...a four door four banger with a manual tranny. It's falling apart as we speak. It's also suffered seven attempted break-ins...only two were successful. Needless to say, both locks are busted right now, so I just leave it unlocked. 3.gif

I was looking at getting a used Cadillac CTS, Lincoln LS or Lincoln Zephyr (aka MKZ), but apparently it's difficult for me to get a decent APR on my own, with many thanks to my age, so I'll just have to wait awhile.

And my two cents on "American" cars:

I'm glad to see more worthy cars coming from the American manufacturers. The Cadillac CTS has been around for a few years, but the more recent Ford Fusion/Mercury Milan/Lincoln MKZ (sibling cars) has really impressed me with the looks and the reliability ratings from Consumer Reports. Also, the Ford Five Hundred is promising, but I think it needs more aggressive styling. It's a bit too bland. I rented a Pontiac G6 once and that was a blast to drive, but I'm not a big fan of the styling. I'm hoping Pontiac's exterior designers will think outside the box more in the future.

On another note, I'm eager to see how the new Mitsubishi Lancer will turn out. Word is that it will actually look more like the Evo version rather than an utterly ugly piece of crap. And that would be awesome!

Me - 1996 Oldsmobile Ciera wagon. Plain gray wagon, good highway car.

- also a 1970 Oldsmobile Toronado in the garage. Humongous front-wheel-drive coupe with a 455ci (7.5 litre) V8.

Dad - 1998 Saturn SL1, 5sp. Beater with 220,000 miles.

Mom - 2002 Saturn SL2, 5sp. Fun little car to drive, and the lowest miles in our family at 108,000.

Brother - 1999 Dodge Intrepid with the infamous 2.7L. Was a very decent car until he got a hold of it. Engine hasn't sludged-and-seized yet after 173,000 miles.

Sister - 1999 Saturn SC2 5sp. Awesome little coupe.

- also 1993 Ford Escort 5sp. We don't know what to do with this old thing yet.

My family likes Saturns with manual transmissions. We also drive our cars forever.

My family lived in the Projects when i grew up, Plus we were Immigrants and it was the 50s, so we had no car.

Duke87 Got a car when he turned 17 in 1959 and it was a 1940 Lincoln Zephyr he got rid of it in 1967 and bought a Chevy Caprice wich he got rid of in 1981, than he bought a 1982 Vauxhall Vectra and has had it ever since.

My first car was in 1963, I bought a 1954 Hudson Hornet at a City of Philadelphia auction for $200 it had 800,000 miles on it, and i have to to this day. when it hit 1,000,000 miles in 1966, I got a new engine. Everything else, Radio, Interior, Air Conditioner ect. was fine. I still have the 1966 Engine in it and it has 300,000 Miles on it and surprisingly, Runs Very well. But i haven't driven regularly since 1976, so thats why it runs so well!

I have a Saab 9000i (-89) and it does have several problems, like not-properly working air conditioning (the compressor's been broken for several years), lots of small electrical not-working issues, sealings leak a bit and they make howling noice when I drive over 80 km/h. It's windshield washing system has a leak *somewhere* and the rust is about to get the better of my beloved car. My dad bought the car from Sweden as new and it has been a loyal servant to our family. It has now about 490 000 kilometers in its trip meter.

I don't drive so much nowadays because the gasoline costs now over 1,30 euros per litre and after all it is far more effective to use public transport as I am only a poor university student. :P

My parents have also (a newer) Saab 9000 (-95), and I had Saab 90 (-86) until my dad wrecked it. It was winter and it was slippery and my dad was a bit tired as he was on his way to home from work. In one curve he just lost the control over the car and the car flipped to its roof and then back on it's wheels. My dad didn't got hurt at all. After he had checked the damage (broken driver window, punches in roof and doors, detatched side mirror) he just started the engine and drove back home. I think this proves something about the safety and reliability of Saabs :)

I once drove a 1990 Subaru Legacy, but now my younger brother drives that while I drive around in a 2004 Jeep Liberty... so we went in different directions.

I would probably be driving around in an '04 Subaru if not for those high prices... they are truly built to last, but Jeeps have a good reputation as well.

My mom has an '02 Camry SE. My dad has a '96 VW Jetta GL.

....If I'm lucky, I'll eventually get the Jetta, and will trade up to a newer model.... when I can afford it. 9.gif

When I'm older I'll get a black Chrysler 300C. I live in Britain, but there are plenty of american car dealers. However, my faveourite car is a 1970 Probe 446, a 70's Concept car, only 3 were built!

I have a 2006 Toyota Corolla. I will not buy American. Once they learn to make a dependable vehicle, I will look. The "current" American business ethic is price, not quality. How many times do you here "it is cheaper to repair a domestic car", when the focus should NOT be on repair. If I buy a car, I expect it to last several years before something fails.

This reminds me of the Ford story. When Ford began making cars, he asked his people to identify the best part of a car. When they did, they found a part that never wore down and lasted indefinitely. What did he do? He told them to make it lower quality. He just couldn't have a part not need maintenance/replacement. This has been the downfall of American auto-making.

FYI, my uncle worked for GM for 18 yrs. They have no respect for their workers, and are constantly fighting the unions.

Luke (Amerikaner): Man, two Land Rovers and a Quattroporte? Wow, that must have been expensive. I know what kind of cars I'd get if I had that kind of money! (Lexuses, obviously) 3.gif

I drive a 2002 Subaru WRX. Here are the specs:

- 4 cylinders, DOHC, turbocharged boxer engine, 227 hp

- Full time all-wheel drive

- I think about 50,000 or so miles

- No maintenance issues so far, but the clock is starting to malfunction

I'm going to school in the Chicago area, so this car is AWESOME in the snow (and rain, too). I remember falling in love with this car (well, actually the STi version) while playing Gran Turismo on the Playstation.
