  1. What Car?

I drive a 2002 Subaru WRX. Here are the specs: - 4 cylinders, DOHC, turbocharged boxer engine, 227 hp - Full time all-wheel drive - I think about 50,000 or so miles - No maintenance issues so far, but the clock is starting to malfunction I'm going to school in the Chicago area, so this car is AWESOME in the snow (and rain, too). I remember falling in love with this car (well, actually the STi version) while playing Gran Turismo on the Playstation.
  2. Best of Super Mario

I would also have to put Super Mario World as my pick for the top Mario game. Number 2 would be Super Mario Bros. 3 for the NES, and Mario Kart was always a fun party, diversionary game. Reasons why I like Super Mario World: - It was the first iteration of Mario on a "next generation system" (well, at that time anyways). - Challenging. Definitely not an easy game, especially if you wanted to find all the secrets and what not. - Yoshi. I would do anything to get that dinosaur, even if it meant dying while trying to get him back. - Multiple paths. I think. I'm not sure if I'm mistaken but there were many paths you could take to beat a world. And you didn't have to complete all the levels. - And the Mario series was the only video game my mom and sister would play, so it was always fun to watch them play.
  3. Avenues to Highways

Not that I know of. I'm afraid that turning your avenue into a highway will require some major construction, since the avenue runs through the heart of your city. Those zones getting direct access from the avenue probably can't be saved. Maybe you can try (if you haven't already) mass transit in an attempt to ease the traffic in your major artery.
  4. Avenues to Highways

One thing to note, though, is that once you convert an avenue to a highway you'll lose road access. In other words, any zones that had access directly from the avenue will lose it once you convert the avenue to a highway. So be careful, you might end up with a lot of "no car" zots.

In the plugin folder = in the game. Now it's just a matter of finding that item in the game menu. Some might be in the landmarks menu, some might be in the gifts menu, etc. It really depends on how the lot/mod was made. The readme file should have info on where you can find them in the game.

My Documents -> SimCity 4 -> Plug-ins I don't use much plug-ins, but when I do download stuff from STEX I save them in a dedicated STEX folder on my desktop. Then I copy and paste the files into my plug-ins folder. That way you can remove the files from the plug-ins folder whenever you want and still have the original download. If you're planning on getting a lot of stuff from the STEX, try and keep your plug-ins folder as organized as possible. It'll save you headaches later on. I create subfolders within the plug-ins folder for each item I use. That way it's easy to find all the files belonging to a certain item. Oh, and be sure to read any "readme" files that come along with your download.
  7. In my opinion, if you want realistic commutes without making it too easy, I would go for either the "better pathfinding" or "perfect pathfinding" option. These don't affect the capacity but they do improve your sims' abilities to find the fastest route to work. I run "better pathfinding" as I've heard/read that the perfect option can affect performance of the computer. But you can always test it out. I feel if you use these options instead of using the commute speed or capacity options, it forces you to plan your transportation networks carefully and use mass transit efficiently.
  8. Transville

Simboy231: It looks like you're taking pics of your screen with a digital camera and uploading those images. If you take a picture with the in game camera the pictures will be much clearer. I'll provide this for your information... just in case you didn't know how to take in-game pictures (if you already did then sorry about the extraneous info). There are actually 2 ways to capture an in-game image. 1. The way that Sirithil and AceofSpades mentioned - the in-game camera. If you go to the options menu while playing you should find the camera mode there. 2. Another approach would be to press the "print screen" button on your computer. This will basically take a copy of the whole screen. You can then minimize your SimCity game (Ctrl + Esc or Alt + Tab will minimize your game). Then you can open up Paint (or some other image editing software) and then hit Ctrl + V (also the same as the "paste" command). This will paste the image into the image software. You can then "save as" a JPEG image to wherever you want the file to go. Again, sorry if you knew this already but I just thought I'd share it with you.

  11. City growing problem

well, the unemployment can either be caused by not enough suitable jobs or too long of a commute. high wealth sims are very picky about where they work (only in high wealth commercial and to some extent high tech industry). so if you don't have enough of those jobs available then that might be the problem. also, high wealth sims are very short tempered when it comes to long commute times. you may have some high wealth jobs available, but if they are too far away for your rich sims then they will not want that job. as for your skyscrapers, the skyscraper in your picture just below the statue of liberty is a an example of a stage 8 high wealth residential (maximum size). Is there any released mod which gives beter skyscrapers?quote>to my knowledge there is no one mod that will give you better skyscrapers. there's a lot of custom buildings available on the STEX, but as for one mod i don't think there is one.
  12. Worst Airplane ride ever?

yeah i remember hearing about this on the new yesterday (or maybe the day before). that's nasty... especially when they were saying that the water was flowing into the aisles of the plane! and what in the world is someone doing with latex gloves in the bathroom? i guess they're using them so they don't have to touch anything with their bare hands...
  13. Entering God Mode

yes hold ctl + alt + shift then click on the god mode button.
  14. Newbie Help

hello and welcome to simtropolis! before i talk about your question, make sure you check out the Omnibus section of this site. it has various SC4 tutorials on different topics. i only say this because there are many, many reasons why a city stops growing. so maybe by checking out some of the tutorials, it might give you ideas on how to start a city. anyways, like i said before there are lots of reasons why a city stops growing. so it's pretty difficult to give advice on such a general question. does your city have any specific problems? bad traffic? bad pollution? unemployment? here are some tips i can offer, and i'm sure others will add on too: - don't build to much too fast... in the early stages of the game it's easy to go broke if you spend too much too soon. - when you build your transportation networks, always keep future traffic problems in mind. traffic is probably one the biggest causes of city stagnation, and the hardest to fix if you don't plan ahead. so, make sure you keep in mind what forms of mass transit you might want to use. it's especially important to plan ahead if you're planning on using highways or above ground rail because these take up space on the surface of your city. ummmm... that's all i can think of. make sure you check out the Omnibus (if you haven't already) and maybe post more specific issues you had that caused your city to stop growing.
  15. Drinks!

what i drink depends on how i feel at the time, but here are some of my favorites. i never take straight shots, though. beer: newcastle, heineken mixed drinks: maker's mark and coke, long island iced tea shots/shooters: purple hooter, jagerbomb wine: shiraz, carbernet always remember to designate a driver!
