I still wouldn't go for it, all the benefits of the iPhone without the need to change your mobile (cell) contract...go with iTouch...they really are fabulous, I love mine 4.gifquote>

Daniel doesn't need to, he already has AT&T 4.gif

Don't think there is much call for that........not our fault you don't have one...take your jealously elsewhere

@Yoman, surely he would still have to change his contract terms or have to make some changes to it? I may be wrong though, have no idea how AT&T operates.

According to one lady I spoke with, ATT works on a method that goes something like this:

Store Owner:  ATT, I'd like to open a store in XYZ location.

ATT:  Great!  :::hands prospective store owner a bunch of paper:::  Here is the list of things you can't do under any circumstances. :::hands owner another stack of paper:::  Here is the stuff that our sales market has developed for your use, so we recommend you use it.  :::hands owner a third stack of paper::: Here is the seasonal/promotional stuff, which we'll update you on as needed.  You're allowed to cut just about any deal you want with the customer, but do realize that it will cut into your store's profits.  Now, go forth and sell contracts!

Granted, that's oversimplifying things, but you get the basic idea.

masochist: come on zunes are useless. I support Microsoft but i think the Zune is just garbage. You can't run 3rd party software on it. I love playing Super Mario World on my SNES and my Ipod Touch. There is a SNES, NES, GBA and PSX emulators for the Iphone/ipod.

There are tons of software for the Iphone available right now.

In order to install these apps on an iphone/ipod touch (they are basically the same thing) you will need to jailbreak your iphone. It is very easy. And best of all you don't have to worry if you brick your iphone. It can be recovered with Itunes. I have bricked my ipod like 4-5 time for downloading really old apps. After jailbreaking your iphone you can pretty much install whatever you want with an app called Installer. I bet you can't do that on the Zune!

i took some shots from my Ipod

@SimRabbit: Technically you're not supposed to be able to install 3rd party apps that haven't been licensed through Apple(but who honestly gives a crap? 3.gif )

and with click wheel iPods you're pretty much as limited as a zune to installing a second OS or editing the UI.

What I mean is click wheel iPods and Zunes have more limitations then the iPod Touch and the iPhone when it comes to adding alternative content, such as apps.

Click wheel ipods, although they can be modified, can't be modified to the same degree as a iPod Touch or iPhone.

Anyway, the reason I bumped this thread is because apparently apple wont let you buy a iPhone online, so they can sell all the old ones already in stores.

A new iPhone is on the way!

My assumptions are that they are going to make the capacities 32GB and 64GB for the two different models, add 3G, add some more apps, and change the body of it.

So, what are your thoughts on this?

The new Iphone is coming out July 11 2008. Expect all kinds of crazy things at ATT stores on July 11!!!

The new iPhone will have GPS, 3G wireless Internet, third party apps and games, Enterprise tools, and LONGER battery life.

The best thing about the new iphone is that the 8gb iphone will be selling at $199 and the 16gb at $299. The phone will be available at approximate 62 countries except for China and Russia.

In my opinion this new Iphone is a big improvement over the 1st iPhone. The third parties games are revolutionary. They showed a game where you control a car with the Accelerometer and the touch screen kind of like the Wii.

I can't wait to get the 3rd party applications in July, I haven't jailbroken my Iphone just in case it ever breaks and w/e, so I have been deprived of fun games.

I'm not going to get rid of my phone and buy the 3G like most users though, gonna wait it out till next year. Hopefully Apple will introduce an even better model next year with nicer features, and maybe Ipod Touch thickness?

i think most people(in the gadget geek tech community anyway) are waiting for the first range of Nvidia tegra APX/ tegra 650 google android OS phones to come out, from the preliminaries phones using this system base will be far superior in virtually every way... apart from maybe the brand name....

EDit - oh and i love my gen 1 30gb zune, its reliable, with good battery life, the firmware is intuitive and simple and the software is great, click wheels just infuriate me.... my current phone is an LG viewty...

Guess the new iphone's good enough. I have a sidekick lx and ipod touch with 32 GB. i'd think it be better to have instead of two.

I still have no need for a iPhone, and it's funny, I was wrong about capacities, right about the 3G(though that was a no brainer), somewhat right about the apps(I was thinking something like the app store), and I was right about the body...but I didn't expect the price drop, and two different color backs.

I do have to admit it looks pretty good with the solid plastic glossy back, in both white and black, but it's weird how it still has that same metal band around the front, it looks like they took two different images for that. I would love it if they put GPS in the touch, and lower the price, then I'd shoot for it faster then a shopper on black friday.

http://www.apple.com/iphone/

It looks nice, but eh...too much for me, I just wanna listen to music and maybe watch a few vids; I can go a day without YouTube, and I'm just fine with directions thank you.3.gif

What I don't understand is "Twice as fast, half the price".

So then, why is the ipod touch "Twice the price, half as fast"...or is there something I missed?  Surely Apple wouldn't charge hundreds more for a product with less functionality...right?

Thoughts on this new gadget anyone? 3.gif  I will admit, at first I thought Iphone 3G meant 3 Gigabytes.18.gif

@Yoshiisland: 2 things I should point out

1st, There already is a iPhone thread(in current events)

and 2nd, the reason the iPod Touch is still expensive is because ethier a. They haven't desided on what to do with it(they'll probably do something next keynote) or b. they are leaving the price high to support the very underpriced iPhone(no way they can profit from the device itself if it's that cheap).

Another thing is that unlike the iPhone, the iPod Touch ONLY uses Wi-Fi, which the iPhone uses 3G or EDGE and Wi-Fi as a faster connection, so speed comparisons don't work unless you compare by Wi-Fi.

Though if my guess is right, hardly anything has changed on the iPhone besides the case, the software and the price.

Ah, my bad, any mod, feel free to delete/merge threads as neccassary.  @Fukuda: No kidding?  Me and a friend were wanting one for like 10 minutes on MSN last night, but decided it wasn't worth it.  And I agree, they're probably making up for lost revenue, since most go after the ipod touch anyway.

What I think they are talking about here is the old iPhone. The new one has twice as fast internet connection at half the price.

Saw a bunch of people lined up for the new iphone today outside the Apple store on my way to Barnes & Noble. At first I though some sort of protest was about to occur.

Hopefully, Apple won't cut the price in half a week later like they did with the first one. I don't think I'll buy one, just give me a regular old cell phone.

I live in Boulder, CO. and last night I was riding my bike at three in morning when I past an Apple store. Already in the whee ours of the morning there was already a line of people with camping chairs and Apple computers waiting. I thought it was quite funny and quite fun to see such commitment to such a small device. If I had a group of hardcore Apple friends it might have been fun to camp out too, even though I really have no desire for a new cell.
