ooooooohhhhhh! Gotcha. I meant that my uploaded files had been downloaded by other STers 3000 times! No, I can't imagine that I have downloaded more than 500 files myself. Very impressive that you have downloaded so much!

EDIT - I don't know why I ended nearly every sentence with a "!".  Guess I got excited 4.gif

Ahh 600 posts after being a member for 4 years. Quality over quantity I guess. 3.gif

This is my 1000th post. Funny, it only felt like a few hundred.

Let no one yield, we're on the field where deeds eclipse the sun; where the brave are told on a thread of gold, the tapestry is spun. As they speak of dreams, their armor gleams, this calm before the storm... Where all can see their destiny, the bishop takes the pawn.

Yeah, after a while that kind of thing starts to happen. It certainly doesn't feel to me like I've hit "reply" anywhere near 13000 times...

Loyalist one day, 1200 posts the next. I'm just quivering over the thought of it all.

What I find interesting is the variety in activity, though.

    Sepsis: 892 posts (0.50/day)

    beesbees: 1449 posts (0.91/day)

    Duke87: 13488 posts (7.96/day)

    jacquilina: 30317 posts (19.20/day)

jackie and Sepsis differ by a factor of 33.99 (post count) or 38.4 (posts per day). Correlation between length of membership and post count? Weak at best.

This is my 1301st post, in a total elapsed time of 10 months and 21 days. My profile says 3.99 posts per day.

    edit: 'Patriot' has been achieved.

Just to point something out: at 5.12 ppd, you've already got a decent pace going... and that's really what's more a factor in defining an "active" member. Sure I have a lot more posts than you, but I've been here a lot longer than you have, so that's expected. It's not so much the post count as the post rate.

Let's say your post count is a function of time, P(t). We're not so much interested in the current value of P(t) as we are in the current value of P'(t), the derivative.

...unfortunately, ST doesn't do calculus for you and the "post per day" reported in your profile is simply total posts divided by total length of membership- and does not necessarily reflect how many posts you've making each day right about now, especially with older members. Someone who made a lot of posts but then stopped posting would be making zero posts per day at this point in time, but their profile would not report that. It would act as though their rate of posting was constant over their time as a member- which, obviously, it's not.

A practical graph to illustrate this idea:

(link in case you can't see the image)

Notice how over time the slopes of those curves vary, sometimes by a lot.
