Looking through the buildings made it's amazing the talent that people have for making add-ons for the game! The one thing that bugs me though is the lack of a GAA Hurling & Gaelic Football pitch/stadium! Even a simple hurling field would be fantastic, here's a diagram of the layout, hurling/gaelic football pitches are longer and wider than soccer ones;

http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/thumb/d/dd/200px-Gaelic_football_pitch_diagram.svg.png

Croke Park in Dublin is the biggest GAA stadium...82,000 capacity...plus it recently hosted ireland's Six Nations matches and soccer internationals, It's one of Dublin's best known landmarks!

crokepark.jpg

croke-park-1.jpg

crokepark1.jpg

Semple Stadium in Thurles is more typical of the your average GAA stadium with 50,000 capacity

Seriously though, anything GAA related at all would be a major bonus, and would be a big hit with Irish Simmers!

hi i was just wondering if anyone can make SimCity Societies buildings for simcity 4

ya SCS's buildings are unperportional and lacking detail but their ideas are good and make it perportional and more detailed i love the cyber punk set so flashy and neon lightly reminds me of hong kong. if someone is i think the best way to organize it is to put it in packs eg

cyber punk set pack

capitalistic set pack

etc

they have to be growable but polpable is ok too

while your at it mind as well make SC 3000 buildings their pretty awsome and would be a nice addtion

Could someone maybe make a set of inner-city residential. You know, the kind that can fit on a 1x2 lot, and you can smoosh then all in a city block.... kind of like this: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=39.943351,-82.989128&spn=0.000466,0.001352&t=h&z=20&om=1

They're kind of like townhouses, but have regular roofs and stuff. I've been looking for months and haven't found much.

So I thought it would be great to have some american car dealerships: Chevrolet, Ford, Dodge... for the ones that build american cities.

I'd love to see some BATs of the Albany NY skyline. Albany NY? Well, our capital building cost more than the US Capital, our Education building was gorgeous before they put a terrible addition on it. The Regents building is world class. And of course there is the Empire State Plaza. Love it or hate it, the Empire State Plaza is 98 acres, including the iconic 'Egg'. Life in Albany may be boring but I kinda like the skyline.

I am a huge Red Sox fan, and I would absolutely love to have Fenway park, home of the Red Sox, in my city.

Fenway Park is located in Boston, MA.. It first opened it gates on April 20, 1929, making it the oldest baseball stadium still in use today. It is truely a historic site, and I believe it deserves a place in Simcity.

Redsox.com quote:

Though generations have come and gone, Fenway Park remains, much like it did the day it opened on April 20, 1912.

The home of the Boston Red Sox resounds with the echoes of great baseball players: Cy Young, Babe Ruth, Jimmy Collins, Duffy Lewis, Tris Speaker, Harry Hooper, Joe Cronin, Bobby Doerr, Johnny Pesky, Ted Williams, Jimmie Foxx, Carlton Fisk, Jim Rice and Carl Yastrzemski, to name just a few.

...blahblahblah 100yearsofhistory blahblahblah...

With its manually operated scoreboard, its geometrically peculiar shape (including the only ladder in play in the majors) and the stories of the legends that have played there for more than eight decades, Fenway remains a link to the legends of baseball's past.

On any given night at Fenway Park, there's no telling what you might see: a living legend may homer in his last at bat, a pitcher named "Smokey" live up to his name, or a catcher from New Hampshire hit a ball just fair past the left field foul pole into the cool October night.quote>

I don't know much about this lot making stuff, but if it could provide a few jobs or something, that would be cool because there is the grounds crew, shops, etc.. Baseball parks are generally good for surrounding cities. This shouldn't be a useless, non-functional landmark (although, even if it was, I'd still put it in my city).

Note: Fenway has changd a bit in the past few years, so if you are going by pictures, make sure they're recent pix!

Please & Thank You!

Here are a few pictures I've found. I tried to find up-to-date pictures. They might help a little, although I didn't find too many of the outside of the park. URLs are included, just incase =/...

http://www.sportsbusinesssims.com/fenway.jpg -- Some of the outside. This picture is old and out-of-date (as you can tell by the lack of LF wall seats, which were put in by 2003), but the outside hasn't changed too much:

I know there is a Ford dealer.. and maybe others. I believe they are BSC or CSX .. ya may want to check the LEX over on SC4D. I think that is where I saw them..

Fallingwater is already done.. forget where I saw it.. and I believe there are at least 2 other FLW's around..Rosenbaum by BLS or Deadwood or a mix and probably others. Try some searches on a few sites.. and you may have to be creative try Wright FLW Falling etc.. Sorry I don't recall where I saw them.

hmm I see in my docs DEDWD_BLS_FLWRosenbaum_v102 and BLS_GA_DWD_FLW_Rosenbaum_v1 look under BSC too as I note Barby's name associated.

Good luck

Albany!  My hometown, in a sense.  There are many very interesting and beautiful buildings there.  I'm with Nacoran on this one.

Specifically:

THE EGG

THE NEW YORK STATE CAPITOL

SUNY ADMINISTRATIVE BUILDING

Sorry about the poor quality; I nabbed most of these from Live Maps' Birdseye View.

I especially like that red building.  I have no idea what it is.

The Capitol should certainly be done as well.  It is such a nice building, and it is completely unique among state capitols.  I think it's rather Canadian-looking :-P.  It was built in 1899.

All these buildings are from New York i think all of them would be very useful BAT's for people building a New York Region (i am in the middle of one 9.gif) they are landmarks of the city and i think they should be included in the game (i just simply can't build downtown new york without the american international building and 40 wall street) your help is greatly appreciated : )

Grrr I'm so frusterated because I was making a big long post with pictures, and I clicked something to enable opo-ups and my whole post went away!!! 32.gif

Anyways... I'm gonna sum things up here:

Fenway Park

Yankee Stadium

Gillette Stadium

Those are my suggestions. I know I said Fenway Park earlier, but whatever.

Yankee Stadium opened up for the first time on April 18, 1923. It became known as "the house that Ruth built." It was the first triple-decker ballpark, and the first to be called a stadium.

[d]"I'd give a year of my life if I can hit a home run in the first game in this new park (Yankee Stadium)." - Babe Ruth (who went deep in the third inning of the Opening Day game on April 18, 1923)quote>

As you can tell by these pictures, the stadium has gone through some extensive renovations. Mainly in the 1970's.

Don't forget the "NY" behind home plate:

Use this for the night lights:

yankee2_thumb2.jpg

And then theres Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots.

I don't know much about this place because I've never really been a die-hard football fan, but I do like the Patriots and I do wish there was a NFL stadium in Simcity. However, I do know it opened on September 9, 2002 (the day before my birthday!).

Why the heck aren't there any NFL or MLb stadiums in the STEX yet?

Sooo, yea, could someone please make it?

May I ask for the Smith Tower, a cylinder-shaped union-owned retirement apartment building in downtown Vancouver WA. It looks easy enough, maybe I'm wrong. (R$, 300 or so residents, about 140 feet tall) Not that it's an awesome building, but it would make a neat plugin.

smithtower.jpg

I would also like to see a few smaller waterfront resort hotels, like the Red Lion on the Columbia River in the pic. Both of these will get demolished when they start on the new I-5 bridge, sometime in next few years.

(The smoking mt in the background is Mt St Helens, still burping after 27 years.)

Let no one yield, we're on the field where deeds eclipse the sun; where the brave are told on a thread of gold, the tapestry is spun. As they speak of dreams, their armor gleams, this calm before the storm... Where all can see their destiny, the bishop takes the pawn.

I have another suggestion, and it's the Aloha Tower, which is located in Honolulu, Hawaii. I think it would be a nice landmark in some cities.

Here is a quote from, where else, alohatower.com. Having lived on the island of Oahu for 5 years (father was in the military), I must say that I totally agree with this opinionative description (there are plenty of facts, too):

In September of 1926, Honolulu's fathers completed what they thought was a fitting structure to hail the periodic boatloads of tourists then calling at Honolulu Harbor. Since travel to the Islands was done then entirely by sea, the building was intended to create a lasting impression, both for arriving passengers and a farewell for those departing. It was built on the water side of the piers at which most of the stately liners of the day docked.
The building was a slender, square-shaped tower topped by a domed cupola with balconied openings on all four sides. Below the cupola was a large clock, a face on each side. Between each clock face and cupola balcony, etched in letters big enough to see for some distance in any direction were the letters A-L-O-H-A.

Appropriately enough, the building was called "Aloha Tower," and in the many years since it was built it has become a trademark of Hawaii throughout the world.

Although built primarily as a symbol, Aloha Tower also had a more practical function. Rising opposite the entrance to Honolulu Harbor, it has a commanding view of the whole harbor and a front row seat on all arrivals and departures. The cupola observation deck has served since it was built as a maritime communications and harbor control center.

Aloha Tower was built to a height of 10 stories - 184 feet, 2 inches, topped by a 40-foot flag staff. For four decades it was the tallest building not only in Downtown Honolulu, but also all of Hawaii. Spreading from its base were the docks, warehouses, passenger-handling and other facilities of Piers 8,9,10 and 11, the core of Honolulu Harbor's commercial activity. In the 1920s and '30s, "Boat Day," the arrival of a passenger ship, became a festive celebration shared by the whole community. As time passed, and the city grew, the tower still stood above the buildings and hubbub crowding around it. Even when air travel replaced ocean liners as Hawaii's chief link with the outside world, and Downtown Honolulu sprouted high-rise office buildings that dwarfed the aging tower, it continued to deliver its greeting. It remained a reminder to visitors and residents alike of softer and gentler times.quote>

Now for photos!

alohatower1ok3.jpg

Here are the night lights!

alohatower2zr4.jpg

As for the bottom of the tower, which isn't really visible in the other pictures...

But I know enough about them to want a more realistic one than the in-game ones. Struggled with the different airport packs but since I don't fly much and haven't paid much attention to the airport infrastructure when I did I find myself a bit frustrated trying to design an airport myself.

So my question is if someone with knowledge about airports could design a medium and/or big airport that I (and maybe others with the same "frustrations") could just plop. Ofcourse with the appropriate credits and/or permission going to voltaire/ the airport team. 4.gif

I like big cities. All buildings from HK team are great but for me they are too small. I would like to see residential buildings for 20 - 30 000 occupants. I am also a huge fan of steam trains so if you could place to the STEX some new steam locomotives i would be very happy. Thanks

Ok, so here are some strange ideas, and some questions... I have only minimal computer skills, but here are some thoughts...

Finding things-

Someone suggested that there needs to be a better way to find buildings. How about a map? Could someone make a sort of Google Mashup where you zoom in on an area and the tighter you zoom, the fewer files appear in the list below it? I know it would be a nightmare to sort old files, anything new could be tagged by the creator as it's added. You could put a couple other filters on. The ones that pop into my head are historical buildings, current buildings and planned buildings (I'd love to see some of those never will be built building plans that you see on Discovery Channel sometimes. Wouldn't it be great to see Freedom Ship, with it's planned 30,000 residents sailing into port?

Roads-

I love some of the great road mods. I have no idea if what I'm saying is even possible, but it seems to me that when one thing runs over the top of another (like el train running over the top of a road) the graphics part of it is mostly superimposing one image over another. It seems to be that this is being done in here by modding each tile. Is there some way to make it so that maybe the el train track section is made up of two parts, the el train part and the ground part and the el train part just superimposes itself over the ground part? The idea would be to make things draggable again, so el trains go over roads the same way railroad tracks do. The idea is that if you do this, you cover all the options and the program renders it for you. It would open up double decker highways, bicycle paths under highways, etc. In keeping with controlling how routes interact, would it be possible to swipe some of the code from subway systems and use it for regular tunnels? This would give you the ability to decide just where your tunnel ran, and allow you to have tunnels that intersected underground like in the big dig. It would also be cool to be able to decide what surface you put on your roads. If there was a little pop-up that you could click to chose cobblestone or brick, or concrete or asphalt you could customize the look of your streets. (If someone was coming up with a game from the ground up I'd suggest being able to design the size (width, the sidewalks, the on street parking, lane divides/style), traffic control (lights, signs, speed limits), the surfacing (brick, dirt, cobblestone, asphalt, concrete etc.) and the elevation (sunken, raised, street level, double decker, overpass, underpass, subway etc. (weee flying cars))

Zoning-

It has been lamented that modern zoning gave way to urban sprawl. It used to be that nice neighborhoods had mixed use buildings. You had shops on the first floor and apartments above it. The stairway was your commute. Is there a way to introduce this into the game?

Taxes-

Could someone come up with a Land Value Tax ordinance? Basically the idea is you tax the land based on its access to transportation more heavily than what is actually on it. In theory (and in limited trials) the idea is that if someone owns a tiny building in the heart of the city with a giant lot, he isn't helping the economy much, so he gets taxed nearly as much as the guy with the big building on the same sized lot across the street. To pay this tax he decides to get some financing and build a bigger, more useful building (maybe you could let checking the historical building box ignore this, LVT tax usually exempts historical sites). The general idea is that people in the heart of the city develop bigger buildings and suck the life BACK into the city. It's supposed to counter urban sprawl.

And one more pretty please? Those darn holes.

I've been playing around in the game with hole digging lots. They are great, but I can't help thinking that hole digging tool based on the zoning tool would<
