Good idea Craig, I might try that sometime! 9.gif

Heh heh. my NDEX folder contains 229MB of files. And my SC4 folder contains over 2GB of files. The game takes at least 7 minutes to load on average, once I think it was 15! Or was it 10? Hmm...

I have a advice:Take a minimal of folders in your plugins folder. If you creat a mountain of folders in your plugins folders, your game lag with a small size.

And who´s the ndex folder? Is the stex folder???

I've always just turned the music off in the options panel, but if you really want to have your game load faster and play smoother get the SC4DATApacker from Sim Devotion like Wouanagaine suggested, I've used it for a week now, the game loads in about two min. and my large city tiles in about 2 &1/2 mins.  And my virus checker doesn't interfere anymore!  Let me tell you the Data Packer is better than sliced bread!36.gif44.gif

Hi, GMT.

I would suggest you read over the Definite test on number of plugin files and performances thread here at SimTropolis and the SC4DATApacker thread at SimCity 4 Devotion for further information on this valuable application.

Very simplistically, this application takes your SimCity 4 plug-in files and merges them into a single .dat file in order to have the game load faster.

Regards,

Vandy

Wow? 2 minute load times? *****? Serious? I've not gotten a million on a medium yet, but that seems awful long even on a big one.

Gonna try the packer though.

Well I'm going to give this a try, I have renamed my C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Radio folder as well as the C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Sound.dat file, since loading any files is certain to use precious RAM. However, I don't know if there is any difference between doing this or simply disabling sound and music in the in-game options.

There are others solution to incrase speed:

a)Use the Datpacker(www.sc4devotion.com)

b)Removing readmes and images(images IN the plugins folder)

c)Removing the sound and execute the normal maxis sound out of simcity[with mediaplayer or other program in this style])

d)Setting the virtual memory to 4GB

These are the only recommendations that I know and I found in all forums of the Simtropolis, also this

I would add that before using Datapacke it is advicable to use also Clenitol (sc4devotion) especialy if you use a lot of BSC thingies.

Strangely, after I used Cleanitol the game seems to load slower (# of plugins decreased as I took some out, and yes I use the DatPacker as well as not loading the intro movie). It could just be me and my impatientness though. 3.gif

Be sure to check out the Dat Packer as well; it does wonders with your loading times!

Try this: See how many music files there are in the two Radio folders (about 35 in total), choose the same number of your favourite mp3s, copy them to the Radio folders, remane your mp3s according to the existing music files, delete the old music files. When you start up the game, your music will be playing ingame!!! Amazing stuff!! 3.gif

Probably won't make the game load faster, nice if you want to listen to your own music, but saves RAM not having a music player open whilst loading the game.. I guess...

Good idea. I'd like to try this. I never listen to the music anyways, because when you have a game for 4 years and have to listen to the same music cycle over and over again - it kinda gets boring. But, of course, I dont want to delete it....cuz you never know48.gif ... i'lll just place it in some other random folder

also this sometimes works in increasing the speed but not always - if you add your own music only add a shortcut in the music folder and most of the time it will still load it although not all the time. It does slow down loading times.

Yes, but I like sound. What if you delete the music, and leave the effect noises? is it still as fast? and Im going to try that.
