i clicked on the first link on the first message, Extra Cheats DLL, and i got to a weird website, is that where i'm supposed to go?

i also clicked the second link, but i didn't work at all

this is supposed to be a download right?

Yes, thanks for the new link. I've kept the file over the years myself, amazingly.

If the current download vanishes, email me at duradan428@hotmail.com and I'll email the file to anyone who asks for it.

It's tiny, just 280KB, so even AOL users and other limiting email systems can get it.

I've had most of my downloads on a redundant raid array since I got them years ago, but came back to see if anything was still happening with the sites, and lo and behold, it's still quite active! Nice.

So I'm grabbing a crap load of new stuff. Wish I had the ability to create these things so I could give back somehow, but oh well. I guess making the .dll available is about all I can do.

I've noticed the STEX is quite slow lately, and the forums seem bogged down too. Anything that can be done to help it out? Aggravating speeds.

Ok, forgive me for being a dummy, but I am unable to figure out how to use this .dll zip file.  First of all, when I download it from Mr. C's edit, I am unable to find the file after download, despite having taking careful note of where I was placing it.  I have done several searches of my entire hard drive after doing the download and find no file anywhere named "SC4ExtraCheats.zip".  

Can anyone help me with this?

Thank you so very, very much for this much needed clarification on how to install this DLL file.  After several days of extreme frustration, following your direction, I finally got the file to install and work.  I don't know about other folks, but for me the key was to unzip the file to c:\Documents and Settings\My Name\My documents\SC4\Plugins, NOT to c:\My Documents\SC4\Plugins as everyone had been saying all along.  

This brings up an issue I have been thinking about for a while regarding terminology folks use when instructing opthers how to add content to thier game.  Buggi, in his original post, told us to install the file into the "main" Plugins folder.  Others have used words like "root directory" and "regular" or "usual" Plugins folder.  This is all well and good if you are very literate in the way your computer organizes itself, but not all folks who play this game are coders or even very computer literate.  When I was trying to install this file, I found 4 folders named "Plugins" on my hard drive, located as shown:

1.)  c:\My Computer\Program Files\Maxis\SC4\Plugins

2.)  c:\My Documents\Plugins

3.)  c:\My Documents\SC4\Plugins

4.)  c:\Documents and Settings\My Name\My Documents\SC4\Plugins

I may have created folder #2 myself, I don' remember.  Then again, maybe I didn't.  Regardless, that leaves three places where this file could be installed and only one of them is the correct place.  

Due to the many folks who have had trouble with this file and the many who seem to want to be able to download, install and use it, I'd like to propose that in the future, the exact install path be given either with a readme the creator of the file makes or in the file instructions posted at the download site, be it here on ST or offsite.  What is "regular" or "root" or "main" or even "usual" to many of the more computer literate is not as obvious to those less literate.  And, the add-ons available here are not intended solely for the computer literate elite, I am sure.  

I know that the fact that we are not all running the exact same OS, MAC or Windows, or the exact same game (RH or not, updated or not) complicates things for folks creating custom content and/or add-ons.  So as well as an exact install path, it would be nice if the creator of the content could caveat his/her work by including a system requirements section.  Something along the likes of  "This mod was created in Windows XP with SP2 while working with SC4 RH updated.  Folks running a different system or game configuration may not be able to install this mod as the instructions here allow."  I understand this may create a call for the creator of the content to create new content that will fit to every single little tweak each gamer has in his/her system, but a polite refusal (it seems to me) would be accepted by most.  And those that get cranky about having content customozed to thier needs?  Well...some folks are never happy and they like it that way, I guess.  

All that being said, I am way happy to finally have thise great new tool available to me and anticpate making tremendous use of it forever.  I especially plan to use the Moolah cheat, as I am not very good about money in RL and that extends into my gameplay.

Folks-

This is how it finally worked for me.

1.) Use the link on the very first post of this thread, the SECOND one that was edited in my Mr. Cinatit. When you download the file, use the SAVE option, not the RUN option. Save the file to someplace you know you will be able to find it after download completes, but NOT in any SC files or folders. I saved my download to c:\My Documents. You may have another place you want to keep the file for unzipping, it's up to you.

2.) Find the file you just downloaded, activate your unzipping software , and unzip the file to C:\My Documents and Settings\My name(or whatever name you use)\My Documents\SC4\Plugins

3.) Do NOT create a new folder in the Plugins directory for this file. Unzip the file directly into the path shown above.

4.) Exit the unzipping program and start SC4

5.) Call up a region, any region

6.) Call up a city, any city

7.) I don't know if you need to be actively in Myor Mode or not, but just to make sure, I was when I had this Cheat work for me, finally, after many days of trying. So my suggestion is, enter Mayor Mode of the city you have opened.

8.) I was in Pause mode, so I don't know if this works with clock running or not. So, make sure you are in pause Mode.

9.) Hit Ctrl+X. A new narrow little grey box should pop up on your game screen at the upper left hand corner.

10.) Move your cursor to the inside of the new grey box and then right click your mouse. A whole new menu of cheats should list off to the right of the grey box. Choose the one you want, click on it, and see what happens.

I downloaded this cheat only for the Moolah cheat, so I have no idea how to use the other cheats in the menu. To use the Moolah Cheat;

1.) Scroll down through the menu of cheats until you get to Moolah, then click on it.

2.) The word "Moolah" should now appear in your grey box at the top lefy of your game screen.

3.) Use your cursor to click next to the word Moolah, so there is no space between the word and your cursor.

4.) Hit the enter key to create a space between your cursor and the word Moolah.

5.) Type into the grey box how much money you want, then hit enter again. Check your mayor's game stats to see how much money your city gained. Keep in mind, using the Moolah cheat RESETS the money in your city, it does not ADD to the money in your city. If you need $1000 and have $1000 and type $1000, you will still only have $1000.

Caveat: I am running Windows XP HomeEdition with SP3 installed. I am runing my game as SC4 Rush Hour with all latest game updates installed. If you are running a different game or OS system configuration, these instructions may not work for you.

I hope this helps a lot of folks who have had as difficult a time as I have had getting this cheat to work for me.

In an effort to clarify the plugins folders, several different programs use plugins, so I am fairly sure must have created number 2 in your list, because there is no associated program.

3, and 4 are the same folder, it's just that Windows isolates number 3 to make it easier to access.

Number 1 is also a usable plugins folder for SC4, the game loads items in that folder first, then the items in the My Documents folder.  Because of that order, some mods need to be in the My Documents folder so that they overwrite previously loaded items. 

Vista dropped the "My" from the My Documents, which might also add to the confusion.

There seems to be no standard term for labeling the mother folder, so root, main, regular, etc are used.  In the olden days "mother" would be used for the plugins folder, and the subfolders labeled daughter folders.  That may be a bit sexist for today's politically correct crowd.

It doesn't work on a Mac because a DLL is Windows executable code. There is no Mac version of this, sorry.

i downloaded it and followed the instructions but it didn't work- however having said that i didn't try it whilst pausing the game so i will try that later and if that doesn't work i'll come back, we'll see what happens.

what you do is start cheat engine

then start sc4

press Alt + tab

then go to the cheat engine find sim city 4

get your money

then press alt+tab untill u get get back to sim city

I feel like an idiot. I haven't had the time to learn how to build mods and lots, etc, let alone install things correctly so they work, lol. To be on the safe side, I am only trying out the money cheat and I can't seem to make it work. I put the dll file in my plugins folder and I know I did that right because when I right click it it does in fact show the list of cheats. Do I just choose one and click it, do I need other symbols to add at the end, do I need commas???

Please help.

It does work with the clock running.

Shift-alt-ctrl+X = Cheats box

Shift-alt-ctrl+R = Render a new region (can take a while to do)

Shift-alt-ctrl+ God mode button (goes back to god mode (doesn't always work first time))

Sumkjd01 click the cheat in the list, it will appear in the blue box at the top of the screen. Press the space bar, then put in amount or name or whatever without symbols or commas etc.. Then press enter.

hey123 Download the cheat to your desktop, unzip it (I use winzip, available free online) then put it in the plugins file. Use shift-alt-ctrl +X to activate it.

The message you are getting is for Windows to find the origin of a file. You shouldn't need to get there.

Qinetix Have you ever done the tutorial on the timbuktu region or read the tutorials on this site, or even dare I say it, have you read the manual. You should be able to build without going bankrupt without using cheats.

I sure want to thank all the posters on this thread who provided the information on the .dll cheat.  I tried it and it worked.  So far I've only used the "Moolah" and "Plop Building" cheats, but they are the ones I'm most interested in.  If anyone can come up with a cheat that permanently prevents the decaying of buildings, that would be something.  Once again, many thanks.
