    Hi,

You have patterned part of this cj after my list lol. It takes a lot of work to do a list like that. Image if I kept up that much detail on all 200 plus cjs in my list. I don't think I'd have a life anymore lol. Great job on hitting 3000 posts and 100 pages. Talk later

    God loves you

    Devonshire: Darkel by the Sea

By now, you must be wondering just how these lakeside villages get to and from the other districts and towns in Schulmania. If you have not wondered that - you should have! After all, these towns surround a lake. So, where's the seaport? Glad you asked! It's to the west, along the coast. It's located at the town of Darkel by the Sea. Known as "Darkel" by the locals, Darkel by the Sea is a bustling port town, growing larger than any individual Lake George community, prospering on the brisk trade and transit through from the west to Lake George.

    region005lakegeorgenamela0.jpg

Darkel by the Sea is the last of the Council of Lake George villages.

It is the only one that does not touch the lake, and the only one without "George" in its name. It is the port for the lake area villages. This port is a bustling and prosperous town. It, as you might imagine, has more commerce than residents. After all, it is the only seaport to the World Ocean for Devonshire. Many important businesses have offices here. The link to the interior is Sealake Road, which runs from the ferry port through Darkel and George's Crossroads, eventually terminating into the circumferential lake road which runs through all four villages. Sealake Road therefore is the busiest road in the district. To aid in traffic flow (those carts and wagons can get backed up at peak times!) circular intersections were designed at two points: the western is by the ferry port entrance, the eastern is at the easternmost intersection in town. Most streets are parallel and run in long blocks, thus not congesting Sealake Road as much and providing multiple approaches to the port.

We will start our tour by the port. This is the all-important connection between Devonshire and the rest of the world.

    f3qg9.jpg

Because of its strategic nature as the gateway to the colonies, this port is by far the busiest in Schulmania.

    f2qr5.jpg

It might not look that busy, but, trust me; it is.

    circle4kk4.jpg

    circle5id8.jpg

Traffic keeps moving thanks to David Circle, which funnels traffic in and out of the port. Each of the traffic circles features a monument. This one commemorates the founding of Devonshire.

We will now look at the many businesses in Darkel by the Sea. Most are located on Sealake Road or one of the four streets which run parallel to it (two on each side).

    b6nb6.jpg

Waterfront businesses do very well. A branch of the Bank of Devonshire sits only a few doors down from the tall warehouse of Ferry's Wooden Shoe Emporium.

    b3zg6.jpg

Several hotels have sprung up at this important transit hub. The newest is CG's Monkingham Palace, owned and operated by real estate mogul C. George.

As we draw back from the waterfront, we can see how extensive the commerce really is by the waterfront. The narrow city blocks are crammed with brick homes and businesses.

    b11ht1.jpg

Just down the street from Ferry's Wooden Shoe Warehouse is the Devonshire Distribution Center for Busscastle Chocolates.

    b2je0.jpg

Across the street from Fery's and Busscastle are the two slender facades of Bengt Designs and Leech Apothecary.

Now, as we venture away from the shore, we see the density of Darkel by the Sea in its full glory. Commerce and homes are cheek-by-jowl in this bustling port town.

    b1vh0.jpg

Rows of commerce line the narrow blocks. Nearly every business in the nation has an office here. After all, this is the only portal to access over 15% of the entire population!

    b7ss5.jpg

Here, more commerce marches down the streets. East Darkel and West Darkel Streets have the highest concentration of businesses in Devonshire- by far.

    b10vt7.jpg

Many of these are distribution offices for merchants dealing with Devonshire.

    b5zp5.jpg

One prominent businessman, P. Hathead, operates a well-known statistics firm from this commodious office. Rumor has it that the building might be converted into Devonshire's first Chicken King franchise. We'll have to check back on that!

With all of the goods and passengers passing through the port, new marketplaces were desperately needed. To meet the demand, local businesscat Shelby Paws established the Whisker Market of Greater Devonshire.

    m1qo5.jpg

Whisker Market was an immediate success. It provides a great place for Devonshire businesses to buy and sell from Atkinos and Schulmanicus-based businesses.

    m2vu0.jpg

Bargains a-plenty can be found at the Whisker Market! Saturday mornings are the weekly swap meets... everyone comes to buy, sell, or trade just about anything.

So, where do all the people who have ready access to such a shopper's paradise live? The outlying streets, Fo Feenie and Gro Greenie Streets, along with the cross street of Grapeape Road (which serves as the eastern perimeter of town and meets Sealake Road at Kelly Circle), provide much of the housing stock.

    h1is1.jpg

It looks like the holiday hawk is about to pay a visit to someone!

    h2gq9.jpg

It's very busy right by Kelly Circle, but these homeowners enjoy their short commutes!

    h3nn8.jpg

The home at the center of the picture is owned by the Nurse of the Year at the Collin Health Clinic, Craig Abbcivvis.

    h4do1.jpg

I'll bet Yellow Hat Realty would make a killing off of these rowhomes!

    h5lu2.jpg

Who wants to go down on that fun red slide??!!Wheeeeeeee!

    circle7fu4.jpg

That brings us to Kelly Circle. All of the town roads are connected at both ends to Sealake Road by one of the two circles.

    circle2cf6.jpg

Kelly Circle is just inside the city gates on the east end of town. It features a monument commemorating the Supreme Wirdle's first Royal Visit to Darkel by the Sea.

    circle3nk8.jpg

Local resident and fitness guru Rainier Wolfcastle runs 100 laps around the circle every morning as part of his fitness routine.

Before we leave Darkel by the Sea, let's admire the new official town emblem, recently granted by the Supreme Wirdle.

Well, there certainly is quite a bit of activity between my posts.

TopCliff - Congratulations on being the person to start Page 100.

Rahjan - Congratulations for being the 3000th poster in this wonderful CJ.

Schulminator - Thank you for my Very Intrigued award.  It is how I view your CJ - very intriguing.

If I may make a few comments concerning your most recent update:

I must say Darkel by the Sea is quite an impressive community -- nicely structured yet, open and airy; bustling with commerce yet, peaceful and serene.

I'm surprised the Supreme Wirdle hasn't thought to create a toll booth at the entrance and exit to Darkel by the Sea on the Sealake Road.  I would imagine it would bring quite a bit of revenue to the royal coffers.

I really like your simple and straight-forward layouts of your cities.  It would be quite easy to find your way around these wonderful places.

I do applaud your use of traffic circles to keep traffic flowing in and out of town.  Great planning!

Ah, what would a seaport be without a ferry?  Are there future plans to expand the seaport to include industrial and manufacturing shipping?

Your style of buidlings are quite fitting for the location as they tend to be across all of your cities.  Great choices!

Thanks again, Bruce, for a wonderful update!

    Regards,

    Gary (Vandy)

Bartonn Thanks for coming by again. Enjoy your award and visit again soon.

DioAngel And you are just a bit away from overtaking to #3!

    fledder200 Wooden clothing, right??

PhatHead Glad to see you again. Did you see your office in Darkel by the Sea?

Bakercity Thanks! I appreciate your stopping by!

Dadyrghluv Long time no see! Thanks for coming by again. Glad you liked Darkel.

Benedict You are quite welcome. I am glad you liked it.

Jacqulina Thanks! Always glad to have Legionnaire Jacky in town!

penguin007 Thanks! Come back again anytime!

    fledder200 As well you should!

Csgcseri Oh, yes... there are certainly plenty of places left to expand!

mencc1701 Thanks. Glad you like it. That's what I wanted it to look like.

Rahjan There may be a Yellow Hat realty or other gBay auction later. The first one was great but interest waned for the 2nd. If everyone wants another auction, we can arrange one!

Vandy Thank you for your thoughtful reply. The Supreme Wirdle could indeed put in some toll roads and such, but she has the Scepters of Wirdleonia as her bank account, which are composed of several tons of pure gold. And of course ownership of vast tracts of land and so forth as well. She is definitely not hurting for schulmonetas! I am glad you like Darkel by the Sea. It's our last look at Lake George towns for a while. I would like a more industrial port somewhere, but they are all too modern looking. So, it's ferries only for now.

Bat Thanks! I am glad you enjoyed this update!

lmcm1990 Thanks for coming by. Actually, some new region pix are up. Check the link in my sig for link!

El Burro Must eat pastry..... must eat pastry...... must eat pastry.....

Leech10 Is that what they were doing? They said they were finishing the basement!

AceofSpades Thanks! I would greatly appreciate that!
