TPBAT.jpg

So over a year ago (about 14 months or so I think) I started BATing with gmax, however I got very frustrated with gmax (because of it's limitations), So eventually I gave up and my BAT thread disapeared to nowhere (no that it got very far anyway...). So I got 3ds max 8 a few months ago, and have finally started using, it (I love it!). My first project I started in gmax BAT was 'office park' which was my favourate building from SC2000:

original.jpg

So here are my orginal attempts:

Office Park 1 (Gmax)

progress3.jpg

Office Park 2 (Gmax)

Op3.jpg

And here is what I came up in about 5 hours today:

Office Park 3 (3ds MAX 8)

OfficePark3.jpg

Note that the yellow texture isn't permanent (unless someone prefers it), and I haven't added roof junk as of yet. I was thinking this could be a CO££ and a HT pharmacutical company (If I have the time to finish). Progress, unfortunately will probably be slow, so bare with me.

So what do you think? (comments are much appreciated).

Because I'm British, I'll probably end up doing UK buildings after this (this is kind of universal).

It's turning out pretty good so far as a stand alone BAT, but it's not a very exact replication.  That's ok though.

I'd change the bushes to something more SC4ish.

Do you have any British buildings in mind yet?

Awesome.

It looks even better than the original (much more suburban with all that glass).

    thanks for the comments guys!

Jason: I hadn't planned to make an exact replica... This is because in sc2000 there was only one side to the building (I think) So I have to improvise with that, also like Jawood, I kinda wanna change little bits (or big bits in this case), as for the bushes, I dunno. British buildings that skipped my mind were low wealth commerce (not much of that avaliable right now), like corner shops and newsagents, also I want to expand on the high street stuff (like music shops and stuff), I might BAT some real life stuff from the South London area (where I live), but we'll see. I'm thinking about R££ apartments, In London we have a lot of apartments blocks around that were built in the thirties (a time of huge expansion for London), which are very intricate and art deco (bit like your stuff) so I might do that.

Some Art Deco would be cool. I haven't really seen any european art deco before. R would be even better.

I'm surprised there was a lot of stuff being built in the 30's over there. In the US, the only things being built were public projects (not housing projects, but post offices and court houses and stuff like that).

Cool! the bottom one is cool, but not the same, but that might be okay, anyone who has played 2000 will still immediately recognize it.

i love that building, it was my favorite from sc2k.

Looks great! Nice glass texture. The only comment I have it that the roof looks awkward without some kind of ledge going around it like most real buildings have. Or have you not added this yet? Keep up the good work!

Cool, I like it! I wonder how it shows in sc4... Yes, make it both a CO$$ and a IHT. That would be cool. I can't wait for it to come out! Waiting for more buildings.

Looking good, I was expecting your first version to be released but this one looks much better.

Btw, is it possible to use BAT4Max with 3DsMax 8? as far as I know it wasn't.

Thanks for you kind words everyone!

ACEfanatic & mightygoose I might make it a bit darker, to match the original more. As for different colours, I'll look into that later, as right now I don't even have a first render.

debussyman Thanks! MAX 8 is compatible with BAT for MAX, the problem was that when it is installed, 8 is installed to C:\autodesk\3dsmax8 where as previous versions were always installed directly into the C drive, so I have done the same (C:\3dsmax8).

I'll probably finish modelling office park by next week, I now only have to add some more roof junk and darken the texture, Also I'm still trying to work out the exact scale for the building. Then I'll have to reinstall BAT for Gmax and see if i can render it (fingers crossed).

In other news I started this 1930's block of flats called Cromer Mansions, and is based on a real life building of the same name where my grandparents used to live:

    CromerMansions0.jpg

    Enjoy!

    Dude, great buildings!

Have you thought about putting the office building into a prop family with different colours? That'd be so cool. 3.gif
