Well yeah, the reconcile edges is different because of the difference in height that this mod has. Or thats what I have found out... Also watch out if you raise the terrain, heh cause it will raise much more than normal... and I have tried to change the size...

But it is a great mod!

Jeronij:  Are you still having problems with beaches in SC4 with Cycledogg's mod? I am using PEG rock mod's Grey rock and have therefore deleted the CP_ColumbusBeachCliff.dat. Now beaches appear to be normal, just check out this picture:

    <ahttp://img181.echo.cx/img181/719/beach9un.jpg align=baseline>

-Did you mean this, or did I misunderstand you? Maby you have already solved this, I don't know, but it may be of help for someone else then.

First off, let me say that this mod is one of the best to alter SC4 in a long time 1.gif.  One thing I have noticed with the mod applied to my maps though...when I open a  new map with the standard flat plains, it shows them as being water. Has anyone else had this problem? Any solutions? Thanks for the help ahead of time!

    Hi Exil3,
Thanks for the info. I have problems when I try to extend the beaches (both on loand or on water).. I can not make the wider than 4 or 5 tiles 34.gif, and I need long beaches.
Maybe there is still some mod somewhere in my plugins folder which is conflicting with CycleDogg

Peakman2: that is a known sideffect with this mod. It is actually a part of the mod, so all you have to do is to raise the level of the terrain one notch... then you'll see you map! 2.gif No problemo!

Jeronij: There you are! Well I see, mine work well, but they are not white like yours... That is a mod maby?
There was a small problem whilst making the beach. I remember that i had to stretch the beach a bit further out and rise the sealevel in front of the beach first. Well keep it up! Later!

This is truely amazing what this mod can do. The terrain looks brilliant and the trees are wonderful, so realistic. I have noticed one problem though while playing around with this mod. If you try it out on a city and save it, then remove the mod and start playing that city again, it renders all TE lots, like toll booths, bus subway, train all useless and they need to be bulldozed and replaced. Not a big problem for those just testing it out, but for anyone that does encounter this problem.. they will know what has caused the problem. A small detail I know, but hopefully this will help when people start asking questions when they upgrade to the next version or decide to remove the mod.

Maybe someone will nominate CycleDogg for MOTM award next month for bringing this wonderful addition to the SC4 community.

Fox: You sure this has anything to do with the mod? Cause I have removed, replaced and done several things with this mod, and nothing except for the terrain and trees has changed with my cities. There is a possibility that you have some other mod interferring with this mod...

Yeah.. After I initially found this problem with a few of my cities using it, I decided to do a test and started a new region with no mods, and removed all custom content from my pluggins and left this as the only addition to the original game. It happened on all the test cities that I started and let run for a few years. So unless you can think of anything else that might have caused it, keeping in mind I ran the test from scratch on a new region and no mods or custom content, I'll be willing to test any other theories out.

I've seen the same thing in my game, but no biggie.

I had to replace all my roadtop mass transit's and SG alleys and such... *shrug*

Small price to pay, really. This mod makes my cities just beautiful... I just wish I had noticed it before I spent so long terraforming and laying maxis trees to my enormous region (essentially trying to manually do what the wet flora does now). It does most of that work for me. 1.gif

Edit: I had the TE problem (IIRC) when I realized that the ocean/river mod terrain properties were blockin' my Columbus terrain. When I first loaded up preexisting cites with a working Columbus terrain the TE lots had to be redone.

Edit2: Actually, after today's testing, I found that it wasn't simply installing the mod that was causing problems, but just that reconciling edges is now vastly more destructive. It tends to break every TE lot and delete many power lines. So I just need to be careful to not reconcile edges whenever possible (mainly I was doin' so becasue I just recently installed the ocean/river mod, too, so I was reterraforming coastlines and river basins to show the depth better). Anyway. 1.gif

I'll try to fix some of these bugs next time I have some time to work on it.  Some of these things are quite unexpected and even a little bizarre, I must say.31.gif  It is probably just a couple of settings I was playing around with that need to be set back to what they were originally.

    We need a jaw-dropping smilie

Excellent work, am playing around with it now, best terrain mod ever!

Would i be correct in assuming that if you have the newer tree mods installed (from the STEX), that the flora brushes from the site linked on page one of this thread have no effect?

Here  is an update to the CP_ColumbusPlayTerrainParameters file.  Replace the old CP_ColumbusPlayTerrainParameters.dat with this file.  Despite the filename, it doesn't require that the new tree mods be installed.  It fixes some issues related to reconcile edges, import height, beach height, etc.

EDIT: by replace, I mean delete the old CP_ColumbusPlayTerrainParameters.dat file when you install this one.

garfiedude: If you have the new tree mods, delete the old tree brushes.  There are likely some incompatibility issues, especially with the Ponderosa Pines.

I've been having a small problem since I've downloaded the terrain modd.  I had the trees and everything was fine.  However, I downloaded the terrain modd, and recreated my region.  After which, I tried to import one of my old cities(that I had imported to another map so it would be safe) and when I load it up, in about 30 seconds, my game goes straight to my desktop.  I'm not quite sure what is going on either...

I've seen the same thing, to a prexisting city that I reloaded after installing the mod. One city out of my region was toasted. I see essentially a barren, corrupted terrain, with several areas (I think they WERE lots) where you can see through to the grid underneath. Then I CTD.

*shrug* It was only a small rural community. Small price to pay for this mod. 1.gif

Though, as a quick question: Can one use the Generic tree controller and the wet brush simultaneously? I love the variation that the generic conroller gives me, but I miss the look of the wet brush, with it's tree lined valleys and treeless dry areas. Perhaps I misread the installation instructions, but I was under the impression that the two files were incompatable, as you directed us to delete any other brushes....

Anyway, I just want you to know how much I hate you. Nowadays I spend my gaming time reterraforming all the cities in my ENORMOUS region, as your terrain mod makes the region view look so pretty that now I can't not make it look PERFECT before I go back to building cities.... And now I have MORE trees/paramaters to play with. I'll probably end up redoing some of the cities I had already finished. :P

Thanks Cycledogg.  I just ended up saving the city in another region and restarting my region.  It's no big deal.  It was a rural city, so it wasn't that bad.  And I wanted to redo something anywho.  I'm just glad that I got the terrain modd to work!

I've one Problem with this mod: After rendering a region with this mod I opened a City with a river in it and raised the Terrain one Step like required!   I got the new Texture BUT the terrain around the river is very step now so I got a Canyon instead of a normal River!!!   Are there any possibilities to solve this problem?42.gif

Guinnessmonkey: sorry about all the extra work2.gif
If you are using the new trees, don't use any of the Columbus tree brushes at all.  (Sorry, they are not compatible.)

abcd: I don't understand.  Are you using the Columbus region, or another region?  If not the Columbus Region, you shouldn't have to raise city at all, if you are using the updated CP_ColumbusPlayTerrainParametersForUseWithCPT_No7TreeController.dat file (if you don't have this file, there is a link to it about 8 posts up the page from this one.)  Also, make sure you have deleted the old CP_ColumbusPlayTerrainParameters.dat from your plugins folder.

Nah. 3.gif Thanks for makin' such an awesome mod that we can worry about how it's not 100% perfect, only 99.9999% 1.gif

Edit: Now that I've worked with the newer brushes, I think I actually prefer them to the old wet/dry brushes. 1.gif

It's just a matter of gettting the technique right, then you can get amazingly realistic and beautiful cities. :D

First, Cycledogg this is an absolutely terrific mod. I have the trees and terrain working great. I had several terrain type mods which were all removed. My only problem is the beach area. I tried removing the beachcliff dat and that did not help. My shorelines have become very choppy. The water follows the contours of the land but only in the small boxes(one road tile). Anyone else had a similar problem? or have a solution? I can give you pics tomorrow morning if that would help. tHx

Well to help you out, some pictures would be great. Personally I removed the cliff.dat file, and I have some beaches along my coast so I can't say that I have the same problems...

And yes this definatley is a great mod!

ok here are some pics of the problems I am having. Never posted b4 here so we'll see how that goes...
    PortEarl-Jan.14,021116106415copy.jpg' wi
    PortEarl-Jan.14,021116106462copy.jpg' wi
    PortEarl-Jan.14,021116106382copy.jpg' wi

There just seem to be some awkwardness along the coasts. Even untouched beach areas on new city tiles are kinda weird. I tried to adjust the height of the beach area as well and did'nt find that it look too much better. I've can throw some more pics up if it could help more. I may just re-render my map and hope it goes away46.gif
