Hordijk: I believe jeronij's mod eliminates the need for that update file, so you should remove it from your plugins.

Aleking: thanks for the comment.  Unfortunately, the way this god-mode/terrain stuff works, it can't really be downloaded in pieces.

chek: The flashing green shimmers sound like radiation maybe?  I don't think they're related to the mod.42.gif

@CycleDogg: Since quite a few people at the German SimForum had some problems with properly installing the Columbus Terrain Mod, I decided to create an installer, similar to the new NAM installer. There are two installer files, one for the terrain textures (including jeronij's snowcapped version) and one for the trees. Here are a few screenshots (the texts are in German, but I can easily create an English version as well).

Welcome page:

<ahttp://img169.imageshack.us/img169/6995/columbusterrain10mj.gif align=baseline>

Select Terrain Mod Components. Only one Terrain Parameter file can be selected, and the beach/cliff file is optional:

<ahttp://img354.imageshack.us/img354/995/columbusterrain22fb.gif align=baseline>

Select trees. Only one tree controller can be selected:

Ok, then I'll translate the descriptions into english as well and send you the installer script. You only need to install the Nullsoft Installer System , put all files in a folder (with some subfolders, I'll provide you with a file listing), right click the installer script and select compile script. Could you send me your e-mail address via PM, or write me to andreas@simszone.de ? It's already past 3 a.m. here, so I'll go to bed now, but I'll start translating the stuff as soon as I get up later today.

I am a bit confused...

I realize that the links are down and that some of the textures have been uploaded on the STEX for use with Jeroni's snowcapped mod... but...

I have all of those installed and I do not get quite the look I am looking for.  I see mentions to files like

                                      CP_ColumbusPlayTerrainParameters.dat

                                      CP_TerrainTextures_No1.dat

                                      CP_TreeModels_No1.dat

                                      CPL_Columbus_FloraBrush_Wetter.dat

                                      CP_ColumbusBeachCliff.dat

                                      CP_ColumbusRockTextures.dat

Where do these come from?   I know some are on the STEX, but what about the others?  Are these included in the files that we can't get to because of the broken links?  Are they part of the original Columbus mod?  And, finally will all the files from the broken links be put on the STEX or were the textures that Cycledogg put on the STEX recently all that are to be uploaded.

Thanks  9.gif

I assume CycleDogg is updating the mod soon, using the installer scipt I created. With this, the installation should be much easier than before. I don't know what you expect from the look, but I suggest to remove the flora brush and the tree models, and use the ones that are available on the STEX. As far as I know, the textures haven't changed.

Thank you, Andreas.

The ground texture is correct, with the tall grass and little flowers.  I first heard about this mod through the MONK CJ.  That city is very lush and densely forrested.  I thought perhaps it would have more trees.  I think, after looking at all the pictures in the MONK CJ that he must have manually added all the trees.  Also, when you go the Cycledogg's site (with the broken links), the pictures there are very lush.  I guess I just thought the mod would make things really lush like that.  That is why I was asking about the CPL_Columbus_FloraBrush_Wetter.dat file.  Because I don't have that file, I am wondering if I am missing files that would make my cities look more like theirs.  Make sense?

Thanks again for the info.

Nakupenda,

The trees you see are a result of the mod... but they're still plopped.  The trees replace the Maxis trees in the God mode plop setting when you plop down trees.

They also become available in the Mayor mode tree menu, for you to be able to plop groupings of trees, and you can decide which tree you want at a certain spot (again plopping).

Basically, the trees don't come automatically.  The ground textures do, however it will just be flat land unless you plop trees.

Hope that helps!!

From cycledogg's info the one with the snow on top of the mountains uploaded by jeronij is one that should have the problem fixed.
there was an update earlier in this tread which now doesn't works anymore

BTW: I don't know if you know this mod but if you don't know where to find it give me a signal and I'll post a link.

Hey, i was wondering if anyone here can try and help me out.

So a few days ago i discoverd that SC4 crashed when i try and play cities. The game works fine for maybe a day and then hard freezes. I removed all the mods i've done in the last month, and discoverd that the file that crashed the game was the tree mod for the CP trees. (Note; i dont use the columbus textures or rock mod, I only used the origional trees untill the new tree pack came out on STEX last month) So i go ahead and move all of the columbus mod trees, including the new set. Bunch of boxes everywhere, but it works. I then installed ONLY the new set of trees into my plugins folder, following the install instructions. No more boxes, but now the game hard freezes again. Anyone have any idea what i've done? Is there a way out of this without a horrible re-install? Thanks for your help,

-Rowen

Yes I see what you coming form48.gif

you can't just take out some files that belong to a mod what you can do is download jeronij's version here: Cycledoggs Columbus Terrain Snowcapped mod Lower (that should have the right parameters in it).

and remove the terrain parameters only terrain parameters which you have installed and reaplce it with jeronij's you will have the same mod only have some snow on higher alltitudes and no problems with the suddenly higher land (according t cycledogg himself).

Yes, that didn't do anything but thanks
The high water is still there. Someone has to make a mod that cycledoggs terrain mod would be there when you render a
region, the looks of the region should be normal to 19.gif

There is another thread somewhere in the modding forums, where joerg posted some hints what needs to be changed for rendering terrain with the original height parameters. In the meantime, try one of these updated terrain parameter files (only one!). They should have been reverted to the original values, but I won't give any support for these, since I didn't test them in the game yet. You can also remove the terrain parameter file temporarily while rendering a new region and put it back afterwards.

<shrug> Rendering a region works fine for me with the Columbus terrain files. You must have some other conflicts causing the problem.

It's not about rendering a region but when you enter a new region that the land is underwater or when your trying to raise it it goes to not normal height.

stepping up to give my $.02 worth of advice-

Rendering maps can be tricky, at best, as many map makers don't make maps that the game will load easily...for whatever reason, and there are many.  Troubleshooting a map that won't render is an exercise in patience and game/computer knowledge.  It would be nice if all map makers who upload maps to the STEX strictly followed the guidelines posted for same, but the fact is, not all map makers do.  And, because this is a 100% user supported site, there just is NOT the resources among the site staff to check every single upload to the site for conformity to site requirements.  This is true for ALL uploads posted on this site.

That being said, I have found that the overwhelming majority of the downloads I have taken from this site have worked as advertised...if you follow the instructions in the readme file that should accompany any download.  Clue number 1: if the file you dowload doesn't have a readme file, don't attempt to install it.

I have downloaded tons of custom content from this site, most of which I use regularely.  However, when I want to render a newly downloaded map, I remove ALL custom content files from all my SC4 files and store them in a folder 100% apart from all my game files, BEFORE trying to render the map.  Once my game files are back to installation status, then I attempt to render the map.  That way I know there are no custom content files that are messing up my tries at rendering my new map.

If the map doesn't render as it should, then I PM or email the map maker and let them know I am having a problem.  I also start down the road of troubleshooting the map itself, because  sometimes the map maker is no longer even playing SC4

The key here, at least for me, is keeping games files organized so that is it easy to unplug all custom content  from your game for a time then being able to plug all those files back in later (like after your new map has rendered).  I read a great tutorial about how to do this and I have looked for it several times since then and not been able to find it, so I'm sorry but I can't post a link.  But keeping your files organized and easily removable, as well as re-installable, seems to be key.

Hope this helps.  If not, PM me and I'll try to explain.

Lora/LD

I think you have to bulldoze the old Columbus trees before removing the old tree mod files (tree models and flora brush).  Unfortunately, a bit of a chore if you've got huge forests of them.
