Well it's me again!

Now before I start with my problem, for those of you who don't know where to get it, here is the link:

Now this thread wasn't made for advertising his mod, even though it seems to be a masterpiece. I actually have a problem, well to say it more straight forward, It won't work!

I downloaded this mod a few days ago, read about it in a thread, and from the looks of it it looked very promising. Now that others have started to post pictures of their new landscapes (Alkaola, Jeronij,..) I get even more frustrated. Personally I hate problems, and hate it when I look stupid because of them. So now to the problem:

- the files I have put in my plugins folder are (actually the same as jeronij);

CP_ColumbusPlayTerrainParameters.dat

CP_TerrainTextures_No1.dat

CP_TreeModels_No1.dat

CPL_Columbus_FloraBrush_Wetter.dat

CP_ColumbusBeachCliff.dat

CP_ColumbusRockTextures.dat

-All in all 6 files.

-Now the stuff that i have tried, is:

-Opening a existing city or just plain landscape, and tried to see if anything has changed.

-downloaded a JPEG, and Config file off the STEX and tried a fresh start.

(put the elevaton up one notch after the region was finished developing landscape)

-Also opened a waterfilled city, changed the landscape, and looked if anything looked totally cool.

In all these attempts I have fail to get a good result. The only thing i saw was that instead of beach, there would be something that looked like gravel, and oufcorse the Godmode trees, that mostly work. But the ground textures stay the same. And I wonder why!?

I mean, I looked at what Jeronij had accomplished, the dark green thick grass, the flowers, and the thick lush woods, and I looked back at my very Maxis, default, region. What have I done to deserve this!!!??

Now please help me, please, I need this mod so badly... heh, well not that badly, but it would be great to see it work, and then I could get back to my normal life again.

-in advanve, thank you...

+here is a bunny to all of you who reply! 35.gif & well ok, and a duck 40.gif

-hmm.. found the Snowcapped terrain and the beach mod in my plugins folder. Could they have anything to do with it?

----------------------- SORRY! ----------------------

Made a fool of myself again, got it to work this time. Just wanted to apologize if i waisted anyones time, and give you two pictures of how it looks now!

-Maby this is a good place to start a CYCLEDOGGS thread on ST, about the mod and experiences with it? What do you think?

Well, take care!

I cant get it to work at all. All of the trees are just boxes now, there are no terrain changes except for the gravel beaches and i have all the files ExiL3 metioned above and no terrain mods besides PEGs rock mod. Exil, how did you suddenly get it to work?

I have a question: Do i need to install CP_ColumbusRockTextures.dat, if I want to use PEGs rock mod? I assume that's the file that replace the rock textures.

Hi, just make sure you put the files in Program Files\Maxis\SimCity4\Plugins and NOT in \My Documents\SimCity4\Plugins.
Hopefuly that helps 48.gif.

I have a question. I don't want the Textures of any sort. All I would like is the trees also the maxis trees at the same time? Is that possible? Like all the custom trees and also the Maxis trees including on which hieght they appear on..

Thanks

By mistake I actually put mine in the my documents part....and for some reason it still works. I'm on a Mac, so I don't know if that's a reason. This mod is going to be a fantastic addition to my upcoming (not too soon probably) CJ. It's also great to hear that PEG's rock mods still work because I am rather fond of one I had been using.

Hola Mexicanboy, try this combination... 2.gif

<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//soloarboles.jpg align=baseline>

You can use any Brush you want instead the one shown here.

I also made a custom mod that allows me to plop those trees from the mayor mode lanscaping  tool. I can send the to you if you want.
I think there will be a new release shortly from this mod, so maybe you prefere to wait...

Anyway, hope it helps 2.gif !!!

Wow, I wasn't the onlyone having problems at all.. heh, well yeah i noticed that too that the files had to be in the program files folder instead of the my documents folder.

Jeronij: about that mod, would be great to have it. Cause I would love to be able to control the type of wood i place inside my cities, along the roads etc.

About if there is a new update soon; Man I hope so, this mod made the game 10x better, just like the NAM or the realistic mods out there. Love it. This mod should absoluteley be under the essentials in the mods section! 29.gif

    - PS, now that I'm finished with my exams for some time, I can start to be a bit more active here again, so if you have anything to comment, or have made, or planning to make a customization of the mod, plz post here! Cause we would love to know! 44.gif

PS 2 (hehe) -I'll make my pictures in the first post a bit smaller, they kinda annoy me... bye!

EDIT: Jeronij: Just a thought, but I read that If you import a map, you have to open every city in the region and set the terrain up one notch. could that have anything to do with the beaches.Cause the grayscale that his mod uses is kinda different or so...

I have noticed that when using peg rock mods, you don't get the beaches that come with cycledoggs modd because their packaged in the same file.

Ok, i'm just a little confused here. Just what is this mod? What does it do? Is it compatable with my white beaches? Can I only install certain bits of if and leave other out?

Pics and info would be appreciated.1.gif

    Jeronij,

Just to let you know, Cycledogg posted somewhere (maybe his cj Lewis and Clark?) that he will be posting an update, *with new trees* on the STEX in the near(ish) future, making the old trees obsolete.  Just so there isn't a ton of confusion when the update comes out, these current trees, to my understanding, won't work when the newer version of the mod comes out.

    Dear Simtropolitans!

Since this great MOD spreads around, I just want to let you know that it will collide with my OceanRiverMOD. The files CP_ColumbusPlayTerrainParameters.dat and my terrainproperties.dat alter the same thing in SC4.

Since my file may be loaded after the CP_ColumbusPlayTerrainParameters.dat, it will override some parameters and the Columbus MOD may not look as expected.

So, if using my OceanRiverMOD, please remove the terrainproperties.dat (and only that file) from your plugin folder. The water textures themself are not matter of conflict.

    Regards

Boggy1: Well, this is a mod that alters the enviroment in SC4. Some trees grow on slopes, wilst other grow next to water (and other stuff too.. 1.gif ). The whole grass/cliff/waterside is altered too, so the whole game has a totally new feeling to it.

-About your white beaches, well to behonest I don't know if they work with this mod. Jeronij is trying as good as he can to find a way to keep these beaches, and is therefore experimenting a bit. I usually use the beaches that I have downloaded of the STEX and that is why this doesn't bother me much.

-You can certainly leave bits out, but some files MUST be installed. For example: Jeronij has left out the cliff file, so that he can use the PEG rock textures, or that was what I understood... Just check out the new update on Sculpting Columbia River and you'll see what I mean. 2.gif

jglei701: hmm.. Can that be altered? Or maby that isn't so bad at all.. Then there just has to be made a new file with the new trees? But that message was for jeronij, sorry but I just had to comment 15.gif ...

Mayorbean: So if you keep the CP_ColumbusPlayTerrainParameters.dat, then It will work? Are your terrain.dat and his exactly the same, or is it possible that some stuff would be altered??

I dont know if this is due to this MOD but it only started after I installed it. My problem is when you are in God mode and you hit the Raise/Lower Land button, now the chage is huge when before it was minimal and incrimental. Any ideas? If you need a pic of what I mean I can post one later when I get off work.

    ExiL3:
The files mentioned above alter exactly the same 'exemplar file'. I change things like water opacity and Cycledogg alters other things. So, the file loaded last (in alphabetical order) wins - the changes are not cumulative.

You can combine both MODs, if you alter one of the files and add those changes of the other one. I have exactly described, which values are altered by (and for) the OceanRiverMOD in it's ReadMe. All you need is the reader and you must beware of that you must change these values again, if there is a update of one of this MODs.

I'm not very happy about that - but it was a matter of time until modding terrain values would become popular.

Well, I like both ones and will merge the files - but, please understand, I can not make that public since support will not really be possible.

    Hi jglei701,
thanks for the advertisement. I did read it too somewhere, maybe in Lewis&Clark on in the Columbus Project Website. Thas is why I posted the mod here and not in the STEX.

Why did I made this mod knowing that the exemplars maybe will be declared obsolete?:
    1) Because I needed the trees, and even another update comes, I am sure I

Ah ok, thanks for the info, shame I can't keep my white beaches. I might try it without the beaches and see how it looks.
But I am very tempted to install this mod, the grass and trees look so realistic it's mindblowing. I showed my mother some of the pictures on CyclePuppy/Dogs website and she actually thought it was a real photograph.
Anyway, thanks for the help, its appreciated.

    ExiL3,

My message was directed at at jeronij, but it could be directed at anyone (or everyone).  He just created a mod to make Cycledogg's trees ploppable... but those (3) trees in the current mod as we have it will be obsolete when CD releases the new mod (and he's said that it will probably be in the next week or so).  The mod that you've seen in Lewis and Clark is actually the old mod... the new one will have, to my understanding, more trees.

I hope that doesn't bum you out too much, but I'm pretty sure that when the actual mod comes out (not the beta everyone's been using) it will be even better than what we've seen!

Thanks for all the interest in this mod, (especially jeronj for answering questions and even making a mod to mod the mod!)

One observation: CP_ColumbusRockTextures.dat is not optional with this mod.  (Unless you are not using the textures at all).  The game will crash without this file if you have high terrain.  The PEG rock mod replaces cliffs, not this file.  Just get rid of the CP_ColumbusBeachCliff.dat if you want to use the PEG rock or beaches mod.

Also, keep in mind this is an old version of the mod and it has undergone some major changes since then.  Some things will be organized differently.  The cliff texture will be in a different file from the beach/underwater textures (to make it easier to use PEG's Rock mod, etc).  Some exemplars are shuffled around to different files, etc.

I'll try to allow for higher beaches in at least some future versions.  I had limited the beaches for the Columbus mod because the mod was made for a river terrain and I wanted to keep the beaches confined to small areas.  But I'll change that in the next version.

Also, the new trees should be up on the STEX sometime this weekend.  (There are 14 types of trees instead of 3!)  The trees are in mayor mode as well as god mode, but they are different from the usual mayor mode trees.  They behave like god-mode trees brushed on the landscape with a very small brush.  (The clumps change as you brush -- you may have to see it in action to understand what I mean.)  This results in only 14 menu items for the 70 tree models.

My intention is to gradually make a whole series of terrain controllers and tree controllers (brushes), which will draw from the same big pool of textures and trees.  So this will eventually be not one mod but many mods.

BTW, do you have plans on releasing a version including snow ?

Oh my, I do not no where to start!

vanshnookenraggen: Well about the elevation, i think it has something to do with the mod, or it might have something to do with the mod. After reading the readme file for Columbia map (Cycledogg's), I found out that this mod alters the hight of a non-existant map. Like, when I tried to import a map, and then check out the cities after the rendering, I saw that his mod uses a different grayscale system. So I had to raise the land one notch to get it to work.
-Or maby it's just what Jeronij said, heh, use the minimize and maximize tools... 1.gif

Mayorbean: Oh oK, see it now. Well i understand why you don't want to make it pubilc. Hopefully you'll get it to work 44.gif. Cause it is a great mod. 19.gif

boggy1: No problem, wasn't much we could help with though. But if you read Cycledogg's reply you might get surprised that you may see some beaches in this mod very soon!

Frogface: Dude, I couldn't agree more. It's just fantastic, and It will be even more fantastic when the new update comes to STEX. CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!! 44.gif

minimoose99: Well ok, thats the same problem as I had. Just check that you files are in the Simcity\plugins folder where you installed the game, and that you have deleted the other terrain mods. Then it should work, if not return so we might help you!

jglei701: Oh man yeah, can't wait for the new mod either... *checking* --> *auch* ---> -ok this isn't a dream!
    44.gif20.gif

Cycledogg: Oh yeah, the man him self, heheh. OK cause i'm going to check out how those PEG rock mods look. btw. are you thinking of making different rock and cliff textures (I mean more than those that are now)?

-About those beaches, would it be possible to make that a separate file or so. Cause I personally would like to choose if I want a map with some beaches or if I want a map with normal rivers and stuff..

-MAN you have done a great work, SOOO MANY TREES! Oh, man hehe can't wait!!!
