Those roads in Millwoods are pretty darn good.....all the curves and stuff must take a while. Good job.

I might be interested in re-creating some of NJ's towns/cities in SC4, possibly my next project. But that would be awful tough to do it to scale. How do you get the scale right, especially with the zoning. It seems like at least some things would be off in SC4. And how do you get all the zones right? SC4 has a tendencey to favor industrial zones, especially I-D and I-M. But also, there's a lot of industrial zones in real life that fall into smaller commercial office in SC4. So how did you decide what development in real life would fall into the specific SC4 zoning category?

Thanks again, and good luck on the region. Looking forward to more updates. 10.gif

37 Pages? You're Filled 37 Pages?

This road network just keeps getting cooler and cooler. Pulling up MS Streets & Trips and looking at it next your CJ is one of the coolest things on ST.

Keep up the great word dude, try not to fill any pages on the way to the parking lot.

Dave

comdude : the scale took 3 days and a few test cities to determin. There where areas of the city I had made and then destroyed in a search for the proper scale. As for zoning... So far I've done 95% from Arial pics, Satellite pics, or memory. With the other 5% being from actaull city zoning maps which are a pain to read and only tell the zone but nothing about the building or lot. I really need to start laying more Industry and Commercial to keep up with the job demand.

Today : I began laying out a small area of Millwoods and Forrest Hieghts. I have max demand for RCI at every level so I have no problems developing right now. I know after 10-20,000 more res though the R$$ will bottom out so I need to find more arial pictures of the city and Satellite pictures for the entire east side of the city. I can only use satellite for the west end of the city for now.

    Edmonton cracks 300,000...

Far from a large number for an 18 month old region but still a show of recent growth. It's weird at times to build a region so slowly. I have other regions with cities of 1million yet here population takes a long time to stake. It's hard to say what the final total will be but it should be double what Edmonton really is, sitting at 1million.

I should have some up close pictures of areas soon.

it looks great especially the roads (with the corners)and I like the CJ,
but one question: how do you get the agriculture in the transportation map yellow and the living area green, I have downloaded the Edmonton Transportation Map Mod , but it doesn't change

Homer : there is another mod. I can't remember who makes it. But I think its in the mod area. Its a two part mod. One alters the roads. One alters the zones. Make sure use the road altering mod. Having two of them at once may be a conflict.

yes it is the transportation map mod

from the readme file I qoute

There should be two files (besides the README):

    -TransportationMap Modd1

    -TransportationMap Modd1B

    Changes to the game:

-TransportationMap Modd1: this modd makes some adjustments to the Transportation Map in the Region view, so that some more of the different networks are seperately identifiable, with Avenues & Monorails now being seperate. The Region Legend for the Transportation Map has also been changed to take into account the above. Please note though that this modd does make some changes to the colour of a few of the networks, therefore it may alter the ability to properly see all the different networks all of the time. This is mainly so if you have a number of different networks built closely to each other.

-TransportationMap Modd1B: This modd adds the RCI Zones' Colour to the Region View of the Transportation Map. The Region Legend for this particular item though does not take this into account. This Modd though [if added], slightly changes the colour of the Networks in the Transportation Map in the Region View, this is something that can not be helped. This particular Modd1B is really more of a bonus item than anything else really, as I don't expect many people to use it [hence why I've made it a seperate file]. This particular Modd1B can be used with or without the above TransportationMap Modd1.

***Please Note***: With either of the above modds, the [colour] affects of the Modd won't be noticed until you actually save your city, and then exit to the Region. The Region Legend will appear regardless of saving a city or not, but the actual colour affects of the different network types (& RCI zones for the 2nd modd above) won't occur until you go into a city & save it.

so Modd1 (or TJD's transmap mod file) is for the transit system and Modd1b is for the zones, but due to the way diff video cards render the region view some colors may vary, btw I also use both these mods ( diff colors of course) if you would like to see pics of it PM me, I don't want to clutter TJD's great CJ with my non relavant pics.

TJD! awsome job keep up the great work!!!

    Greyveil/Homer

Thanks for the detailed reply Greyveil. And by no means your not cluttering my City Journal. Anyone who has questions on Edmonton, Edmonton lots, or Edmonton mods can ask them here. Since I use so many transportation map shots this was a great definition of exactly what is used...how and why. I couldn't have said it better. But then again you helped with my mod so you should know. 19.gif

Well, I guess I don't see a fly by version very often, and I haven't been skiing lately (slammed into a tree really fast. Ouch), but I never said it wasn't close. It's just not exact. You know what I mean Jerseydevil. The minute details that I ,no doubt, think will be added. It is a very good model and I'm sorry if I offended anyone.

    000EdmontonContents2.jpg

It took 2 days, but I've finally read this entire CJ. I found it particularly special for this reason:

When my parents broke down and got a computer with a colour display back in the early 90s, I christened it with Sim City Classic. For some reason the game had an unnatural allure for my mom, who would play it with more obsession than I had seen in anybody. Eventually she became frustrated and stopped playing because of the lack of realism. For instance, she discovered early on that if a road becomes too congested, you just break up the road. I have gotten every version of the game since, but she has mysteriously resisted the temptations.

Fast forward to a few days ago. My computer needed a good clean up and as I was reinstalling programs I rediscovered my copy of SC4 and RH. Since I never actually play lace w:st="on">SimCity3.giflace> I decided to check out some mods to see what was available. That's how I discovered this journal. This is where the connection is.

Those who don't live in lace w:st="on">Edmonton3.giflace> may have heard grumblings about our city's transportation system, but unless you've spent 2 hours on Yellowhead trying to get across town, the frustration seems overblown.

A few days before I brought up the subject of Edmonton's road problems and mom - who has to take the 'Head twice a day practically screamed, It's like they made it in Sim City!

Now, thanks you you TheJerseyDevil73, it has.

Congratulations on an astounding achievement. Local humor aside, our entire family is proud of our hometown and we all agree that your work to date is both exceptionally accurate and truly inspiring. You have renewed my admiration for this City of lace w:st="on">Champions3.giflace> and have shown in your own way why we are so named.

With that in mind: Isn't the CN tower in lace w:st="on">Toronto3.giflace>?

emerae : I'm glad to see another person from Edmonton has seen this CJ. Yellowhead is a bad example of a freeway with actuall traffic lights every few km's. At least Edmonton is building alot of transportation of late. I've also owned every SimCity and I've made Edmonton on every version. This City has a long way to go. And alot to build. The longer it goes the more interesting it will be.

And again, about the CN Tower... (I've posted this picture before, and said several times that Edmonton had a CN Tower before Toronto)

London Ontario had a CN tower too. An eight storey piece of crap serving as a rail station. Now it is gone with a new Via rail station in it place.

    Great CJ!!

    Very impressive, especially the roads!

I just want to ask an question:

What is/are the water and power supply? And where it is/they are?

Somebody may have asked but I cannot find it through this 37 pages CJ. Just too difficult...3.gif

V3 : All the utility lots are special lots that are hee on ST. The (Power/Water),(School/Hospital), and (Fire/Police) are all 1x1 lots that RaphealNinja made. They cover most any map and max out most any stat. For garbage I use a 2x2 lot. These lots are small 1x1 towers so they do stand out when places in Res areas. But they solve the problem of needing coverage in every map when in many areas of Edmonton on an SC scale there isnt power plants and excetra.

Everyone : I've been fairly busy lately and haven't had much to any time to play Edmonton. Don't worry its not on the shelf it's just a little delayed. Keep posted and thanks for your patience.

    Southgate Area :

This is just a few pictures of the Southgate area which is half finished. I've been pretty busy lately and haven't had time to work on the region or update. I decided to take a few pictures until I have another update. The Southgate Mall area will be re-done. This is just a rough view of the area.

Cool, Southgate.  I go by there every day (well, I also live a 5 minute drive south of it, right by Heritage Mall).  So, a giant block surrounded by stores for the mall?  Interesting 1.gif

I, too, love how you've done the shopping center. (I don't believe I've posted on your journal before; I can never think of what to say on such great works of art as this 1.gif)

lol, I'm surprised people like how I did Southgate Mall. I really don't have any choice unless I leave a large gap in the middle or start batting which I can't do. I actually planned on never showing the mall due to it looking like that. The middle is actually terraformed land with small 1x1 texture lots on it. I still have alot of editing to do to this area, but like I said due to being busy lately I wanted to get some sort of update out there.

Nice update once again jersey devil, but I don't get something. Isn't this meant to be page 38? The forum says that this is page 5642.gif I was thinking at first oh my god. how can that many people post so fast! Must be a bug in the forum software. Anyway, keep up the good work.

    Actually this is page 37.3.gif

Anyway, I must say that this is, in my opinion, the greatest city journal, and city, that I have ever seen on the internet. I really only prefer realistic cities - and with you recreating Edmonton to scale, how can not say it? It is hard to describe just how beautiful this is. Just great work.44.gif

Also, I downloaded your Edmonton trail pack, but none of the dirt trails work - is there something else I must download?
