@ SimFox: I use gmax and get errors 108 or 78 while I am exporting on High Quality... it happens at about the same place/time every time... about 90% complete when it is doing the Zoom 2 views. I got another error while exporting a draft quality model, but it was a fatal exception error and gmax closed. lol.

EDIT: Ok, I changed some stuff on the model and imported it to a new file, but it didn't work again... error 120.

    @ owenluby: Thanks! 3.gif

@ All: I am going to try a medium render on Tuesday night after I get a chance to modify some more stuff... Hopefully it works and looks decent.

Yes, I tried that.. several times. I also have removed anything that was hidden and didn't need to be there anymore. And I have been working on converting some stuff to editable polys then attaching stuff together. I am also trying to get the import/export thing for gmax-->MAX to work. I can't get MAX7 to import the .md3 I made in gmax. The plug-in doesn't work.

I just downloaded the demo version of MAX7 to see if BAT works with it... and to try it out. I don't think I will ever get MAX unless I can acquire it through school, which is probably possible. It costs WAY too much for me to buy.

Bat is working fully with every version of MAX. And fro that matter should be possible to use with ANY 3d modeling software on the market, cause BAT itself doesn’t really do anything, just sets up the scene – which is easy to recreate in any package, and then sets various stages of render –also easily set in any package manually or through included scripting methods, after than it slices resulting images and most importantly sets the IDs for the pieces and system of rearranging them. But as far as modeling, rendering etc, goes BAT is not involved at all!

You should definitely look for educational license it could be as cheap as 150-200$

Alternatively you can take a look at packages like Maya and also MODO. Modo seems like very interesting package delivering huge improvement in sped of Poly modeling and viewport manipulation in comparison to 3ds Max, it is also much cheaper. Has decent rendering system and apparently if used noncommercial could be free or educational license as cheap as 100$

Anyway if one interested in 3D modeling sooner or later one would have to learn scripting. And once this done it shouldn’t be too difficult to set own BAT or more precise create adapted version for various packages.

You can also use Rhino, just download the trial version. It'll still work after 25 saves, just export instead of saving. It seems like a good modeler...

    Edit: Heres the link!!

    Just a question for everyone...

In real life the Cheung Kong Centre (CKC) and Bank of China Tower (BOC) are next to eachother. From the map below, I have determined that they are at approximately 30 degrees to eachother. Should I arrange my CKC to this orientation with respect to the Maxis BOC, which is orthogonal with respect to the SC4 grid? This means rotating mine by 30 degrees. This would put it on a 5x5 lot... or maybe a 4x4 lot still... Or should I leave it so that it is orthogonal to the grid as well, on a 4x4 lot I think. What do you think? Map below:

    Map(Central).jpg

Also, I did a bunch of chnages to Shun Hing Square.... technical chnages, and I am trying to render it again. I will keep everyone posted about the results. I tried to get it into MAX. I managed to export it to a .md3 file, but cannot get the importer to work with the MAX 7 demo. Any ideas about that?

As much as I know SDK in MAX7 was changed somewhat, so many Plug-ins from older versions wouldn't work, although some still do. So you have to make sure that you have right one, one which is working with Max7. And another thing do you use Exporter or Importer?? Be sure that the right one in a right place!!

    Did you try MD5??

I don't know if you have see this already but here is one page I came across: ---LINK---

BTW why did you get the demo of MAX7 and not MAX8??

As of the placement of your CKC, I would say go with 30degree version! I think it is much more interesting then straight forward placement!!!

If you have time to render I say do both version! If I remember correctly Maxis isometric view is either 20 or 25 degree...so a 30degree view will look very flat...I think it would be nice though...If you don't want to render both versions maybe I can render the other.

@ SimFox: I got the right ones in the right place because it exported to .md3 from gmax... it said it worked at the end. I am going to try .md5 later.... and yes I have seen that page. 3.gif I went with MAX7 because I read some people have problems with BAT and MAX8...

@ all: Good point bixel... I will do a preview of it first and post the results here... Then everyone can see what it would look like in the game before making a decision.

    EDIT:

I AM SOOOOOOO HAPPPY!!! *end of bold CAPS* 9.gif

My modifications to Shun Hing Square worked. It has now been rendered successfully! I can't describe the joy I feel! 3.gif I checked it in game from every angle, day and night and everything seems A-OK! Anyways. I am using the same lot from a few pages back. I am going to try the modding myself. So far what I have/planned is this:

size: 6x4 with the road along the 6 for the growable

variations: LM, CO$$$ Plop, and CO$$$ Grow... all with the same lot design

I will probably do the capcity and cost similar to 2IFC because they are around the same size. Any suggestions? By the way, for anyone who doesn't rememberm the lot looked like this:

    tn_z5.JPG

Oh yeah... the problem. I read throug ha bunch of threads in the BAT - Workshop forum, and someone mentioned that nightlights CANNOT be in groups and MUST be standalone objects for the render to work. Well, sure enough I had grouped some lights together. I ungrouped them, and voila! It worked! Remember this next time you have a problem rendering! 9.gif

    EDIT #2:

I worked on the lots and modding today and I think they are done. All I need to do is test the growable lot, as I have not been able to grow it... I keep getting billions of Khoury Art Foundations, Mid-Knight Suites, Vanprooijen Trading, and Brown's Records. But no Shun Hing Square. The plop and landmark work fine by themselves. I have not tried having them both installed at the same time. I still need to do a readme and package everything up. I hope I can do the rest of the testing on Friday... We'll see. If not, I should have time next week.

    EDIT #3:

Everything seems to be done now except the testing... and getting that growable lot to actually grow... which seems to be evading me. the 6x4 lot keeps on splitting into 2 or 3 smaller lots. It is the same problem that I have when trying to grow bixel's Dynasty Court. I am going to try to do a draft export of the CKC this afternoon or tomorrow to see what a building looks like at 30 degrees, but that depends on whether or not it even exports.

    EDIT #4:

I have completed modding and testing of the ploppable and landmark lots for Shun Hing Square. I can't find anything immediately wrong with them, but all I did was make sure they didn't crash the game. They both work at the same time. I finished the readme and custom menu icons too. All I need to do now is get that stupid growable to actually grow and everything will be done except indepth testing.

I did not have time to do a preview of the CKC at 30 degrees yet. Sorry.

Hey, that sounds great! dmscripios version has the huge complex that doesn't fit in my tight downtown, so this will suite the space i had in mind. Your's is looking great. I can't believe no one has commented.

Yay! I am glad you were able to make a successful export! As far as growing the Dynasty Court, did you get the updated version? I fixed the desc file so now it grow with appropiate capacity.
