That's a great looking start. Very realistic. All you need is Walmart building on the farmland just off the onramps and then it'll be perfect 2.gif

cityhawk - Thanks! The actually graphic novels it is based on are just called Sin City. The chronicles part was added for my own story. Yeah there's a lot of space there. I took a map that was about 35% the size of the one I have now, and went into photoshop and added in a whole lot more land to the grayscale so I could have plenty of room for my city.

hamsterTK - lol! Thanks, I'll be using googleEarth stuff like that quite frequently.

Cjah -Thanks! I'm looking at real life maps of cities and basing the surrounding countryside and suburbs off of actual places to attempt to gain as much realism as I can.

Greenbean418 -Thanks! I can't wait to get the first storyline update out. I believe that is what will really set this story out from others in uniqueness.

bourneid -hehehe thanks bud! Wait 'til you see the story update 4.gif

jackel.22 -have a good trip! You're just going to miss the story update. At least you'll have a lot to read when you get back 2.gif

spa -More like a Tim Hortons from what I've seen in my travels lol.

aleko -Just by playing with perspective and cropping out all the cool things in the google earth window. Wait until you see the map amd hybrid versions 4.gif

    Thanks for your comments everyone!

Good news, the Story update should be out tonight barring any unforeseen plans.

Sin City Chronicles - Chapter One

    Author's notes:

So here it is, chapter one. This is more like a prelude to the story, but is important enough to be a chapter of itself. It sets answers some basic questions as to where the story is taking place and why. We get our first look at the personality of our main character, who is only known as "McGregor" as of now. We see that he is an aggressive individual with a severe distaste for criminals.

    Enjoy!

You've totally captured the feel and style of both the comics and movies. I am...amazed and impressed. Great work.

*getting napkin* Ugh--all this drool. It's all over my keyboard...*gets shocked when keyboard is touched*

I usually despise story-based CJ's but this one really got me hooked! It's the perfect story for a city journal! It put a smile on my face...and CJ's usually don't do that 23.gif

It's great--the story, the coloration of the single images, the style, and the ATTITUDE. The attitude of the character, and the revelation. So he wasn't a janitor...

I love how you put different angles in the story (just what simcity needs--it only provides 4 zooms) such as the courtroom scenes. That could've just been done with a picture of a courthouse but you went 1 step ahead to show the people in them!

    *faints on keyboard*

    OW!!!!

oh my god! now if thats only the prelude then i can't wait for the actual stories. and the thing is is that i usualy don't like cj's with a story but this is just amazing! all the black and white pictures are awesome and all the inset pictures and captions at the top and bottom fit in perfect. i've also allready noticed how you used the color in the taxis and the car. this is just awesome and i can't wait for more!

usnaguy -Thanks! Glad you loved it.

    yoder7652 -hehe thanks!

ElBarto92 -all the backgrounds are done by me. For the characters and such, I use some different techniques, with a mix of taking a picture and silohetting it and applying filters. I do draw in small details to characters such as overcoats and such. I plan on doing a "behinds the scenes" featurette on it soon 4.gif

    StegSC -Thanks!

    bourneid -Haha Bourne, thanks.

    gurrgkud -Thanks

ginchael -Thanks, I really wanted to stay as true to the source as I could. The story will be totally new and unique as well, but will be told in much the same style as in the movie/books.

    ilikehotdogsalot -Thanks

    yoder7652 - You did, I believe 2.gif

SpecialEddie - Great, thanks! I really wanted the character be somewhat grey. I didn't want him to be your pure upstanding hero. I wanted to give him a really gritty personality. He's almost to the point of being a criminal himself. Why he has such hatred towards criminals will have to be found out from some of his past. Something really must have triggered his hatred.

Goin2Chicago -I'm glad you really enjoyed the style. I love throwing in the small inset pictures. They seem so minute but they do have purpose, whether it is noticed conciously or not.

For instance, when he lights up a ciggarrate, I wanted to capture the feel of all the oldschool dectective movies. Almost always you'd see that dectective lighting up at a scene of a crim or what not. The signing with the pen wasused to show multiple meanings. One, it could mean he was signing into the hotel. Two, he could be signing his transfer to Basin City. Finally, he could be signing his will or it could have some meaning to be his own death certificate.

    MayorTim -Thanks dude!

    jacqulina -Thanks

asturianu -Thank you very much, perfect is a very powerful word 2.gif

    Skyfire2275 -Thanks

toxicpiano -If you liked this style, I may reccomend my 2nd CJ, The Colonization of Hermoso. It has long since ended, but I also had a comic presentation in it as well.

Sim shady -Thanks a lot! I always try to bring something new to the table. Maybe a more comic book style story might pick up in other CJs, who knows!

paletexan -Thanks! It was made for the city, so I know exactly how I want to develop it.

    Thanks for all your comments!

    Progress Update

I've Continued to expand on the suburbs, I've added some development into some of them. I've also been expanding the highways and major roads. I'll probably have a full fledged update tomorrow showing the region as is. For tonight, here's a GoogleEarth picture of some of the developed suburbs on the very outskirts of the city 4.gif

Whoa, Chapter 1 was freakin' awesome! As said before, you really captured the attitude of the guy, as proven to me when I read it and heard it being said by the lone detective with the low but deep voice with attitude on that dard TV screen. I can't wait for more of the story, and the Google Earth pic looks very good, too. Do I spy a Mr. Beer style highway on the bottom right of the pic? Anyway, keep going!

StegSC - Thanks! I look at google maps while designing my city to get ideas on how to flow everything together realistically.

ElBarto92 -I'm glad you liked the google shots. I plan on doing more with it style wise.

    Skyfire2275 -Thanks

    jay_allen1978 -Thank you!

cityhawk -Thanks! Thats exactly the kind of personality I was going for with him. As for the highway, the style is mostly inspired by Savanah Way's maps. Though if you're talking about the small on and off ramps with streets, I saw that in another journal a while ago. So maybe that was his journal I borrowed the idea from.
